and still it remains mostly useless. I say this not as a troll, but as a paying customer.
If I wanted to use the Alexa app for every goddammed thing I asked, I wouldn't have spent the money to begin with.

  5. I've never seen a decent explanation oh how to communicate chirality to aliens. IOW, how do they determine if the message we send, and the mirror image of the message we send, is the right one. What happens when we meet in person millenia from now and they have everything backwards?

  6. conspiracy theory on Updated Information On Columbia Shuttle Tragedy · · Score: 1

OK. So I'm a conspiracy theory nut. I can't help it. But there are a few things worth mentioning. I find it odd that the first Israeli astronaut dies over Palestine, TX. Also, it seems odd that less that 4 weeks ago (2 weeks before launch) that german guy hijacked a plane in Frankfurt, demanding to speak to the brother of one of the astronauts in the Challenger disaster.

On an unrelated note, nasa.COM (a porn site) has (temporarily, I'm assuming) taken down the porn and now redirects to nasa.gov.

  7. trying not to think on Think And Click · · Score: 1
Here's an interesting problem. How do make yourself not think about something you don't want to think about? Imagine having the following conversation with yourself:

"Okay, I just finished that paper. Now I've got to be real careful with it. Just don't think about that rm * command. Don't even think about it. You've worked really hard on this thing, so if you think rm * then all your work is gone."

    "Dammit."

  8. Re:Hard Drive != Long Term Backup on Affordable Home Backups for 10-100G Systems? · · Score: 1

the problem with this is that drive failure is not the only reason for a backup. By using a RAID: Any file you delete, write over, or corrupt will not be recoverable because your "backup" is in the same state. Not to mention the fact that any virii you come in contact with will be nicely archived on your second drive.

  14. Re:DVD crack on Why DVD Encryption Crack was a Cinch · · Score: 1

Well, you know that the ubiquitous "they" have been working on a new dvd that will support HDTV (1920 x 1080) resolution. I think that this is a good thing, since new releases will likely be released in the newer format rather that sticking with dvd resolution (whatever it currently is). HDTV broadcasts are still quite a bit away, so I won't be buying one anytime soon for broadcast reception... but if I can watch all my favorite movies that way, then I will certainly consider buying one. I don't see any reason why hdtv manufacturers won't be jumping on this like a whore on a congressman.

Back to the ac patch thing. I'm pretty sure "ac" stands for Alan Cox. But are these patches solely his work? Or does he gather all of the patches and combine them under his initials? Are they included in the 2.2.7 release?
I'm just an idiot, so forgive me if I don't understand how it all works.
