I worked for a bank that had a relatively decent password policy for its employees: Every week employees were forced to change their randomly generated password.
The password policy for their infrastructure was HORRENDOUS though. They used a program called ITI Director for their nightly backups. Password to login to Director=director. Rinse and repeat for everything else
I have seen this first hand with HVAC. I worked on a Walmart in Orange County California and the HVAC guys were having some problems with the EMS controls, instead of just being able to make the adjustments themselves they had to call Bentonville Arkansas and ask the guys there to make a few minor adjustments.
I remember splicing some speaker wires together for a friend with scotch lock clips, and his (unknown at the time) bi-polar schizo wife tried to stab me because she said I was bugging their house.
Why not make the kid do it? That way instead of learning that there will always be people out there to do things for him, he will learn to rely on himself(and google of course).
Not the I condone the antics of all of these "Hacktivist" groups, but wouldn't pearsonvue.com be a much better target than Sony? Or do they leave them alone because none of them are in college yet?
Just had to buy my wife a book book for basic biology. The book itself is readily available on the internet, but the text that the professor requires is the SAME(page for page) book just an edition for her school that has the professors name as the author and a $140 online access code. The biggest kicker though is that her schools edition is a loose-leaf in a binder so the students can't sell it back at the end of the year
I gave one of my old android phones to my toddler so she can download games and such without harming mine or my wifes phones. I also have one loaded with stuff like faceniff, shark, wifikill, pixie, and stuff like that, basically a simple pentesting platform.
Read this book while on "vacation". Have to say that this is one of the better books that I have read in a long time. Though I hate to say the most depressing part is that it ended....
They ought to ask how many professors WROTE the textbooks that they are requiring students to buy. I'm not sure about other places, but at the community college that my wife attends 85% of the books that she has been required to purchase have been written by the professor teaching the class. Call me naive, but isn't that kind of a conflict of interest?
From what I still remember of my 4th grade social studies the dollar is supposed to be tied to something physical......
"Because gold and silver in the open marketplace vary independently, the production of coins of full intrinsic worth under any ratio will nearly always result in the melting of either all silver coins or all gold coins. In the early 19th century, gold rose in relation to silver, resulting in the removal from commerce of nearly all gold coins, and their subsequent melting. Therefore, in 1834, the 15:1 ratio of silver to gold was changed to a 16:1 ratio by reducing the weight of the nation's gold coinage. This created a new U.S. dollar that was backed by 1.50 g (23.22 grains) of gold. However, the previous dollar had been represented by 1.60 g (24.75 grains) of gold. The result of this revaluation, which was the first-ever devaluation of the U.S. dollar, was that the value in gold of the dollar was reduced by 6%. Moreover, for a time, both gold and silver coins were useful in commerce."
Actually, I sign every petition that I can find to attempt to preserve our rights, travel by car or train, and annoy all of my friends and family with rants about the decline of our nation. The problem is that there are so few of us who actually understand or even care what is going in in this nation.
I am also not ready to take up arms, but sadly I really don't know what else would work (if that would even work) aside from moving to mars. Truth is, I got a few drinks in me and read 500 posts of people complaining about the problem yet offering no solution.
I've alreadypetitioned mycongresscritters and the Whitehouse as well as filing a complaint with TSA itself (no link for that). In addition, I have decided to boycott air travel until this nonsense stops, and I've started the blog that all these links point to so I can share information about what is going on at the airports. I'm not yet ready to take up arms and start an insurrection, but if you've got some constructive ideas that fall between what I've done so far (petitions, blogging, voting and hitting the airlines in the pocketbook) and armed rebellion, I'm all ears.
If, on the other hand, all you want to do is mouth off to people you disagree with, then kindly STFU, please.
Really the constitution has nothing to do with anything any more. Where does it say that I can bear arms only if I haven't been convicted of a felony? Where does it say we have a right to privacy unless someone is willing to pay? Where does it say we have a right to free speech unless no one wants to hear it? I could go on and on and on...
I decided that felonies were better than a college degree when I was younger, and ended up doing construction for the last 10 years. Now, I am regretting those choices I have found from a few friends that stayed on the right path that my best bet would be getting a few CompTIA certifications to get my foot in the door and taking it from there.
And should you find yourself at a construction site just put a 2x4 over your shoulder and walk purposefully with a stern look on your face. Works every time.
All it really takes is a hard hat. The cleaner that you look and the less you are doing, the more important it makes you seem
I didn't really have time to RTFA, but self-defense sounds good. Or if you were to be charged, is there a such thing as electronic "mutual combat"?

The worst part of these "Access Codes" is that they expire. After the class is over the code is no good.

Backups? Isn't that what cars do?

These days it seems like the whole phone needs a tinfoil hat. Reminds me of the ESN snarfing days back when I was in Junior High
Build a car that works with them
