I've been saying pretty much since I saw the who xul interface thing that as custoumizable it is, what *really* needs to happen is to make a native toolkit port. It cuts down on so much unneccessary bloat... A interpreted toolkit built into your browser? It's like emacs all over again!;)
Anyways, mad props to the k-meleon guy. I hope this turns out great, for all of us who use both windows and linux, or just windows. Now if only someone would start a MacOS-specific port...

I bought Privateer way back when it was a new game. A lot can happen over the years, and I got two new computers and managed to loose the disks. I still have the box, the manual, but no disk.
I found a copy of it on an 'abandonware' page. I feel entirely justified downloading it, since I bought the software originally. Can I not download a copy of a game I already own? Or perhaps Origin is going to get me new binaries. Yeah, right. I even looked around on their site for a place to order it as a classic game. Didn't find it- even though they have a page advertising it here, they don't seem to sell it anymore, and I only found that after doing a google search.
Am I wrong?

These "Copiers" are committing ACTS OF PIRACY against all of us! Just like the pirates of old, they take what is not theirs, pillaging and distroying! They will be the end of all of us! They do not deserve the music they copy! So friends, countrymen, We the RIAA ask you to do a few things:
Report these new pirates before they destroy everything that is sacred to us!
DO NOT ACCEPT their illegal, unlawful wares!
DO NOT COPY any of the tapes you have bought! The music is not yours! It is ours!
REALIZE the value of a tape! Ten Dollars is not that much to spend! The value is much higher!

From the times before Andover, before VA, when Slashdot was a replacement for Chips 'n Dips, and was just a hobby of Rob, Hemos, and Sengan (haven't seen much from him, lately...) They still have the original dot-org, plus they have recently (within the last few months, I believe) aquired the dot-com TLD.

Things would be so much easier if people did pay attention to what they need, but for every corperation, it seems, there will be some manager that will give the order to "snatch up all those names, 'cause they're really ours".

You'd be amazed at how many people accidently bust airspace. I work at a FBO at an airport (we rent smaller aircraft), and we keep the forms to report such things on hand at all times. It just happens every once in a while. Plus, if there is a problem, all regulations are secondary to getting the plane down safely. Pilots have been trained to put it down wherever they can, and they proabably wouldn't remember what "that big antenna" is. Though I like the idea of a big bug-zapper:)
Frankly, I don't see the reasoning for building something like that on the earth. Not only are there (a few) safety risks, and the general publics perception of it (we are dealing with the same people that buy "xxx For Dummies" books en mass), but the earth rotates. You would only get about half the day (proabably less) to target and use the laser. I would rather see a fission-powered station in a heliocentric orbit, personally. It just makes more sense to me.

A standard, Mode C Transponder has a recieve/interrogate, frequency and an output frequency. The tower interrogates the transponder on 1030 Mhz. The aircraft responds with a series of pulses on 1090 Mhz, transmitting its squawk mode and altitude.
The squawk mode is a kind of identifier for the aircraft. Standard, fair weather flights will squawk 1200. For a general emergency, you squawk 7700. For loss of your vocal communications radio, you squawk 7600. If you have been hijaked, you squawk 7500.
Most voice transmissions in aircraft are done in the range from 110 Mhz to 130 Mhz or so.
And yes, squawk is a technical term, they even use it in the regs:)
