    I know its not easy getting info on wireless chips, but time would be better spent working on something like that. Just look at all the live CD's out there and how many can connect to wifi? Ubuntu and not much else. (note to self- take wifi chip developers out to strip club and get them drunk next time they are in town)

    I realize that CUPS is useful for large networks, but does it have to be installed by default on every Linux distro. Then there are the FreeBSD ports that insist on bringing it in as a dependancy. I use APSFILTER and delete CUPS asap.

    What they are doing is looking at drugs which are derivatives of nicotine. Thus they can patent them and charge you $5/pill.

    These are the same FCC bozos who are promoting Broadband Over Power Line or BPL, despite all the independent technical experts who confirm that the systems are just giant antennas radiating hash, noise, etc and interfering with Public Service Radio. Along those lines, the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is suing the FCC over its certification methods for such systems. see www.arrl.org for the details

    I live close to a large beautiful park. In recent years I have noticed a large percentage of people in the park talking on cellphones. I was amazed. I go to the park to get away from such stuff. You are truly a technological slave if you can't even get away for a few minutes of R&R without being bothered.

    Memory and/or processors running at 100Ghz sounds great, but how is such a chip going to be connected to the outside world of peripherals? Beams of light? Waveguides? Or will everything have to be contained on one chip?

    Despite disliking DRM, GSM is the most sophisticated communications protocol that I have ever seen. I have read the standard (dispite getting a headache in 5 minutes) and it is totally locked down using encryption, session keys, etc. Perhaps I am in error, but I doubt the standard itself has ever been cracked- unless via law enforcement with the complicity of the companies involved.

    Yet it is the most widely used wireless personal communication standard in the world. Woe are the hackers and crackers who try to attact it directly. But like any encrypted system, the weak points usually lie elsewhere. Those would be the point of attack.

    Can't get on the net? Wow, that's exactly the Windows version that I am looking for! I use Windows only for a couple of scientific applications and usually disconnect the ethernet cable or wifi connection before booting into it.

    But sometimes I forget, opening myself up to all kinds of potential virus, malware, keylogger misery.
