    At one time you drove your Megacar around Munich. Now manufactures are shipping chars with internet connectivity and mobile hot shot access. How do you feel this has vindicated your early attempt at this design.

    While the diskid is dependant on track length and number, the db can also return approximate matches. I have used an wrote CD players and rippers that would allow you to choose from the close matches for your exact record. I have no idea how the close matches are found but they are useful. If there is only one close match, that would could have been assumed to be correct.

    I am far from a OpenSUSE expert but I was able to follow their documentation to do a network install of 10.1 with the files hosted on a RH WS4 computer.

    I downloaded the OpenSUSE CDs and net boot image from here
    I followed this item
    Followed by this one
    Then I did this
    I then booted off of the cd made from the net boot image. I adjusted the mount points and exports to fit my local enviroment

    On a side note: I did the X86_64 install to see how OpenSUSE got the Java plugin to work in Firefox. It was easy for them, they cheated. Their Firefox is a 32bit compiled version

    Arrrgggh. That is what I get for leaving the TV on at night. The plot makes since while I am alseep but falls a part in the day light.

    Where is my raft so that I can find those dinosours that fold into cars. They were in 5 colors and try to catch the little blue people and eat them.

    Yep it is unstable. This is covered in the second or third book when they notice the huge motors that keep the ring centered.

    It happens all the time with Navy people go to see for months on a submarine. Just think 150 poeple on a small steel tube with lots of equipment and chemicals and no windows!

    Q: What is that awfull smell?

    A.1: If it is the afternoon, it is a san being pumpled overboard.

    The moon would be ok. There was an old paper (50's/60's) written that talked about over use of the moon could blur the view from the moon by kicking up a lot of dust and exhaust gasses. One of the L points of the earth and moon or earth and sun would be even better. No gravity to tug on it, no possible vibration because it is on a planet/moon/rock.

    Oh, the atmoshere can be compensated for. Yeah, it is an amazon book but my google skills fail me today. Essentally a lasar is used to measure the turbulence of the atmosphere. The mirror of the telescope is flexed to compensate. Pretty wild but I guess it works. (If only I could link to a NOVA broadcast from a couple of years ago.)

    the lack of gravity on the mass of the mirror caused the shape/curve of the mirror to change from what it was ground to on earth. they knew this was going to happen and ground in a shape that would allow it to flex into the correct shape in space. The mirror could not be tested on earth and was launched with people thinking it was good. They were off as we all now know

    I got my pair of 5 button ones about a year and a half ago. I ordered in March. They wrote "RUSH" when I said I needed them for my wedding in October. Good boots and a great feel. The wife ordered hers through Bald Mountain. Their style, price and delivery time are about the same. I guess there is a large group of boot makers out there.

    I must admit to doing the same on the Alpha servers that were my first admin job. I was logged in remoatly from my desktop and needed to kill all of some program. Needless to say the night time operator saw me go running the server room to restart the main campus Unix server!

    The coffee cam was good. So was the fishtank cam.
    Ahh, the day of the scrolling display cam where there was a CGI script to submit your own text to be displayed. Wasn't that at Netscape before the open sourcing or AOL? :wq

    You can monitor disk, memory usage and other items with MRTG without having to use SNMP or MIBs.
    Instead of a pair of MIBs on the TARGET you can give path to a script. The format is:
    dataI
    dataO
    system uptime
    Text.

    I have a TARGET that inventories the total data stored in my tape robot.
    Here is the TARGET followed by the example output.
    Target[localhost.ROBOT2]: `/root/mrtg/robot.sh`

    The crew size was cut when the X33 program was shutdown. The program lost its budget just as it was ready for full testing when the money was lost. Now there is talk of going back to a capsule for the crew or a crew only shuttle. Too bad Lockheed has reassigned the people working on this.

    These kinds of programs are not cheap and they only get more expensive each time they are cancled. We could have been there and done that if a good plan was produced, not meddled with and followed through.

    Knoppix is able to go beyond the 740MB-ish limit of the CD by using the cloop module.

    What is cloop? Well, according to the README of the source file it is "a [k]ernel module to add support for filesystem-independent, transparently decompressed, read-only block devices".

    Rusty Russel is listed as the original author. Klaus is listed as bug fixes and extensions.
