but onscreen QWERTY will always have the advantage that people are used to the layout.
Only for hunt-and-peckers.
I touch-type, and I have to search the keys in the virtual keyboard of my cell. That's because when I type I don't think in the keys but in the whole word and it then appears in the screen.
For people like me, an alphabetical order is way more natural. I totally know that order.
I totally don't care how many blogs are written in Oracle as it is totally irrelevant for the software I write (and it's the company the ones that pay for it, not me).
Touchscreen technology may be cool for a second, but having to raise your hands for an extended period of time (touchscreen) is exhastive and prohibitive
I would have to raise my hands to write in this kind of netbooks as much as I have to raise my hands to write in a piece of paper in my desk.
I think the whole point about tab chars is that you can see it as 4 spaces and I can see it as 2, 6 or 8 and we both are happy.
If you read the original rant about tab chars, it was about programming in Lisp.
I program in Lisp, and agree that tab chars suck in Lisp. I could even say that if you don't know Lisp you don't deserve to be able to comment about tabs in source code files.
AFAIK (I mean, I have shown the code to my friends and this is their feedback):
C++ is more readable for computer engineering guys. They've been using that syntax for years. They have their own cruft in their heads already (just try to make them change their favorite code editor to see this).
Lisp is more readable for math and physics guys. Yes, when I let them see Lisp code, they had no previous exposure to C++ syntax, except for that very semester. Who would guess?
So, to me your comment is more about programming culture that any real intrinsic quality of the language.
It's easier to support Wine.
In fact, just because of comments like yours, I would only support Wine if I would be developing any software that runs on Linux.
A stable API does wonders for tech support. And you linuxers are hostile to closed source software anyways.

In my country 'Letter' is used and my country is not even in North America.
To each its own.

MySQL????????
I would guess PostgreSQL is a lot better for enterprisey stuff.
Or is Sun your vendor??
AFAIK the latest Nvidia cards do not have 2D hardware acceleration anymore.

Low resolution, and shitty video card.
Not my kind of laptop...
Well, it seems it was only CTP and not production ready.
I stand corrected.
Utter bullshit.

Bah.
As long as Steam is working, they can update their DRM.
As soon as Valve folds, their DRM becomes a static target. In short time 'opensteam' servers will pop up and DRM will no longer be a concern.
I however think that 'the big ones' like EA will cease to exist long before Valve does. Their distribution system is just way more convenient.
I think you need to be more specific, like:
Significant Whitespace is the most moronic feature of any language!

For C based syntax ? Tabs all over the way!
I think it is backwards in this case.
What we want is that the agreement remains valid even in the company goes into bankruptcy or liquidation. Very unlikely to happen.
If the contract is no longer valid, THEN the sharky lawyers will sue everybody and be very patent-trollish.

Well, this /. post is about Vim tricks.
I can do what you describe in Editplus in Windows.
As someone who's learning vim, and coming from windows, and totally hating it, can you please sell me the idea about nvi?
At this point, I really need something to make my work easier.
Not really a POV. Just a meme.
Of course you're right, but:
WHOOOSH!
This would explain why BSD is so much more popular than Linux then.
BSD is for people who love Unix. Linux is for people who hate Windows.
Yes, lots of people hate Windows. ;)
if you want to work on a document you could do that too.
Seriously, mod this funny.
Thank you, your 'redundant' post made the other posters put some NEW material, and that only happens once in a fortnight.
If you miss and have to pass you finger twice in the fingerprint reader, there's no frigging way you can be faster than me writing a password.
Of course, I'm a touch typist, if you're a hunt and peck typist, I can see why you like the reader.
Google can't do that. But a security policy in all companies, can let us do it.
So you block the Web by HTTP_USER_AGENT.
IE gets a whitelist of job related domains, a secure browser like Firefox or Opera gets to browse the entire net.
Then, a HUGE part of the population will use other browsers.
I can tell you that.
OSX is not hostile to closed source software.
