Rather interesting that 4 of the top 10 are either Debian or Debian based -- The heart and soul of freedom software. Goobuntu will only futher this trend.
It is said that M$ has an OD in the works -- I'm sure it will only read in documents in an inconvenient fashion and if they come out with an output filter it will be riddled with bugs.
I suppose the point is that this data is the ONLY global temp data - all other are point measurements. This balloon verified data shows results that Science and Nature don't want to hear about.
I think that is the reason they are no longer reviewing papers for the now politicized Nature and Science.
Sounds silly to me too. And this from the very top of their web site sounds silly - they are describing a Linux distribution?
"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others". Ubuntu also means "I am what I am because of who we all are". The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.
Someone that reads that and thinks, "Gosh I want to be kind to everyone and everybody, so I will use this Distro." is in need of serious help.
If you use normal Debian all you have to do is borrow some ones package list that is doing similar things - and aptget later you should be pretty much set up.
Those who worte the slash dot and web articles don't know anything about Debian. Debian is really three distributions. Ubuntu is based on SID - the most buggy.
I think this thread is just Ubuntu hype - our logs don't see any trend. Please note there are SEVERAL other dist based Debian. I think Debina has more children than any other distro - says good things about Debian.
" Every single digital phone has this to the same extent."
Not true - I measured it. latency varies by both network and phone. Sprint also seemed to be worse during peak hours.
One simple test is to call a land line put it on speakerphone and place the mobile near the speaker. Clapping your hands will result in a time delayed echo - the time delay in the echo is different with different providers. Routing this sound to a microphone plugged into an Oscilloscope lets you measure the latency.
Me too! Actually when RH wanted me to pay for each CPU for support or run Fedora equivlent to Debian's unstable it ticked me off! So I looked around and tested several distributions.
We now contribute $100/year to Debian instead of Redhat.
Debian is the heart and soul of Linux and I want to thank RedHat for moving us on to a better Distribution.
I hope "their money on research and development" was sarcastic.
This is not a patentable idea in my book - it is trivial, obvious and should never have been granted a patent. I bet it took almost hal a day to write the code.

New tag line. What more can I say.
Let us suppose that it was possible to prove that irrigation is causing global warming, should we ban irrigation and starve people?
Do you think anyone can prove anything about an open system?
It isn't Republicans or Democrats - time to look at the Libertarians
M$ has much to lose - after ME and XP will they fumble again?

Science is not the same as consensous.
How about the raw data?

If ALL you are doing is development just:
apt-get install build-essentials
But, I'm not sure you really want it to work.
I quite understood it - it just seems like an amateur attempt at marketing.
Sad to hear about the poor state of business schools.
Obviosly not a Debian user - you only see the install once - there is no need to reinstall to update.

Sounds like a bunch of PC hog-wash to me.

You are absolutly correct. When I switched from redhat, I first used Libranet which led me to Debian.
THe whole thread is troll hype.

I hate the latency on most cell phone links - my experiance led me to t-mobile, but even they have more than I like. Sprint seemed the wosrt. (YMMV)
The time delay between when someone says something till when the other one hears it makes for inturupting each other and ticks off customers.
They have noticed that k3b is about to knock them out of the game.
I used to use Nero back when I ran a windows desktop. k3b is now a very good replacment.
I'm not sure anything after HTML3 was ever worth the addition of the comlexity involved.
Are these standards really going forward - or backwards? Will the new stuff run faster (I bet it won't).
Aside from css I have seen nothing to get excited about for W3C and much to dismay as the new HTML is getting hard for humans to read.

I would also bet that there is prior art.
