Pretty much fits the original definition of fascism - brought to us by the left this time. You will be told what to think. Thought crimes.. Even the term PC is being attacked.
Notice they mention misogyny, but not misandry. (Which obviously means the promoters are sexist and should be banned )
Life is so good under the USA system of 'Cartel Socialism'.
There is this story - about adopting a insecure system that is called "Privacy Shield" - to imply that it is secure. Then there is 'secure boot' which requires UEFI - in the end is less secure than an old BIOS. Then the Apple court case - as if an Apple phone is secure....
All is intended to give people the idea that they have a secure-private method to communicate when the opposite is true.
Of course criminals will use the holes/backdoors at some point - could bring down the banking system.
The difference between a Ubuntu user and a Debian user - Debian users tend to be interested in the ethic of freedom - Ubuntu users are interested in free beer.
As the M$ Canonical bit unfolds ( https://linux.slashdot.org/sto... ) I suspect more developers will move back to Debian. M$ is not ethical - neither is Canonical.
Same thought - Just wasted bandwidth from China - they don't buy ANYTHING. I've thought of blocking all their IPs - so the China firewall is going to do if for me.???
The cost of burying Nuclear power in regulation is estimated at about $40T - how many lives did that cost us?
$40T works out to about $160k per every person in the USA...
How many died in the mideast - in terror attacks etc because of this irrational fear? How much has the security problems cost us? How much freedom has it cost us ( government monitoring )?
What is the cost in 'LIVES per KWH' of the alternatives??
Which form of energy has the lowest cost in 'LIVES per KWH'?
Which form has the most democratic risk (not just poor workers )?
I won't vote for anyone that spam calls me. Any politician that thinks that they should have special rights is no different than a bigot.
We live under 'Cartel Socialism' now - getting closer to fascism as time goes by - the Demopulicans go about dividing the people against each-other and giving themselves special rights - I suppose at some point they will have special rights for your daughters as well...
You are confusing a 'free market' with what we really have: 'cartel socialism' which benefits only the political elite(both parties are full of dirty, corrupt, garbage ).
"That's not as clear of a metric as one might expect. " Clear enough
"We have lots of research efforts now that are jointly funded by government and private funds; would they need to be released as open source?"
Yes! -- next question?
" And how do you dictate the release schedule for the code? "

Fake problems to muddy the water. It the tax payer pays for even part of it - or supplies the infrastructure - it belongs to the public - not Washington elite coneys. Enough of this 'cartel-socialism' where only the buddies of the insiders get the goodies.
Actually, it could be a very good business move - have a M$ desktop to compete with KDE, gnome etc..a M$ wine - Reduce the cost of supporting their cash cow - allow running native Linux programs.
At some point they have to ask what their business model of the future is - what they have isn't going to last. M$ office is a money maker - many other ventures continue to simply bleed. Win10 is most making their customers distrustful. Without the sweetheart ( Cartel socialism) government deals they have, they would be starting to bleed.
And it isn't the first time it is stupid. ( Actually, this is Venture-Vulture(tm) fodder - they want your money)
Watts per square meter of radiation matters.
We have "moth eyes" (sounds so green?) -- yet nothing useful.
Something like - how many watts- with and with out - would tell you that indoor solar collectors are not going to power anything much.
The problem is not the acceptance of the surface - it is the intermittent source ( missing storage technology ). Pulling the drapes open makes a magnitude more difference.
Not really - anyway - most of these 'surge protectors' are simple MOV blocks that get blown open after a few years of use. (They silently die in the line of duty).
Amazing how many people here don't know anything about transients. - Common mode vs differential mode etc.
Most power supplies have one built in - and work well above both voltages.
The key bit is most transients are at RF frequencies - you don't have to know down all of what gets on the first cap past the rectification - and with PFC the inductor will just reflect most of it.
Much more important is what happens when your computer is hooked up to two different grounds (Ethernet vs power mains ) and it becomes a shunt between the two.
There is firmware in the BMC - the hard drives, several other places - are they making the claim that ALL of these have open source code? Open microcode?
I didn't see any mention of Linux Bios.. hate getting information via videos.. You really don't need a separate processor to start up the main one - and it provides huge security holes when you do.
I've wondered what systems the spooks use for their security - there are hints about power 8 - not sure.
If you want to get unwarranted attention - randomly flip your MACs - makes you look like a spook.
What we really need is a browser that looks very common via finger-print - the page is not shown - only an OCR document created from the page with links that have tracking information removed. Once the OCR doc is created the instance of the browser is removed.
I got tired of buying XL socks only to find they were closer to medium. I finally found some made in the USA - not only do they fit - they are thicker and better made.
I do believe in "good-enough" Some imports are good enough - but cheap tools that break can also be more expensive when you add in the cost of repeated replacements.
I have found that Japanese and Taiwan machine tools tend to be of very high quality - compared to the China stuff.
Also - be aware that the safety features of imported machines can be missing - providing nightmares of law suites.
Uhhh - the Russians are more capitalist than the USA... look it up. Russia has 35% of GDP as government spending - the USA 48%. So long term the Russian economy is the better bet. (they have no debt and have net exports )..
Actually - the 15% one was not doing paternity research.
These guys are talking about "historical EPP rates" - not of interest - people want to know what is happening NOW. Things have changed.
I don't believe the 30% number - and I don't believe the 1-2% either. The 15% rate sounds about right.

I call it broken Debian
Just seems like there will be some backlash?

People that can't put two complete thoughts toge

A patent give one a license to in-rich one's lawyer.
Actually, riding the bus is plenty dangerous - due to some of the people that ride them and the germ infested seating.
They can do anything they want - I'm not riding a bus.

Put a box on top - with a large wheel can even go up stairs - deliver packages - less energy than drone delivery...

Actually - low dosages of radiation can actually reduce cancer rates:
see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
So it could be that their risk is now less than it was...

I don't know. - Somehow I am just not able to feel any guilt - OK - just tried extra hard - nothing.
Actually, what this type of story is about is the effort to create more government jobs for those that got degrees in 'White male hatred studies'.
So if someone specializes in selling things that cost less than $20 (not going to be profitable) whose fault is it?

Probably not.

Just won't work.
Mostly due to java creep in browsers - https://panopticlick.eff.org/

I really miss web sites that don't use java..

It is NOT patents - it is everything to do with policy to prevent coreboot. They don't want hardware under the owners control.
