For a tablet/touchscreen device, the Windows 8+ is doing okay but it's the crappiest system to ever use for a desktop. Two apps, side-by-side, are you kidding? I have 4 operations in dual screen right now on Windows 7, and I can be swamped by as many as 10 at a time. Sure, Windows 8 may have the desktop app but is it an app or is it the desktop?
Of course it betrays his vision. The reality is is that the market is a battle field, and to have a monopoly in the education sector, you'd better not be making much bank off of it. Are either Apple, Inc. or Microsoft Corp. non-profit? No. The next contender could be Google, Inc. but they're not non-profit. Last time I looked at the trading tickers, Google was making more bank than Microsoft.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation is the only one that could deliver on his vision, but it's based in the UK and it's for the UK.
When will we move away from currencies? It seemed a good idea when there were fewer people, and society was small but clearly, the system is not designed for these numbers -- and upper class people tend to change the rules often.
I'd also like to participate in economics without having to evaluate how much a currency is being traded.
William Harrison in a 1840 speech (making the rich richer and the poor poorer) Shelley in 1840 said That the rich have become richer and the poor poorer. In modern times, Stanley Lebergott states that under a free market, the rich get rich and the poor get poorer. Source
The digital divide will soon encompass the poverty divide
Romney believes net neutrality will restrict ISPs, and that they alone should govern their networks. The governor has stated that he wants as little regulation of the internet as possible
Then, Romney should be in favor of net neutrality since he's in favor of smaller government? I don't understand why anyone will vote for this man when he clearly wants to increase regulation, which will cause an increase demand for regulators thus expanding government/commercial authority.
I will not be voting for Romney; he talks out his ass.
In full support of Obama's stance. I might be able to see eye-to-eye with Ron Paul.
Besides, the United States of America is where it is unlawful to hinder free speech is the best place for this communication engine: the Internet.
I would not want to hand this over to a body, where I do not know its established law. The UN is over-stepping its bounds; it's supposed to be a place where countries can meet and circumvent wars, such as world wars, etc.
Yup. GameStop won't be able to do the same thing with digital copies as they could with hard, physical copies; their business model is going down the crap shoot and consumers won't be far behind because you can't resell these digital copies. eBay items will evaporate as will the low prices.
Greatest desktop operating system. Wrong! So wrong. I think it's trash. I am using the preview, and I have it set up like Windows 7 because I cannot stand the Metro UI.
It's comparable to iOS, where in order to transfer data from one app to another, you'll have to go to the Start Screen and back. Cascading windows is the most efficient for transferring information.
As for the Metro UI, it's "in your face" (on desktop screens). It's like that big wrestler whose screaming in your face telling you to do this or that. I guess it's comparable to facing Steve Ballmer when he's on a rage about something. They should rename this "Steve Ballmer OS" instead of Windows, which has windows and it's called Windows because it has windows.
Windows 8 is great for the mobile platform (I think?). They should've made it their proprietary ARM-based, touchscreen OS and kept it there. As for the "greatest desktop operating system," I honestly don't know these days. The open source community is coming out with several great product choices. And as for the most luxurious UNIX experience, Mac OS X is absolutely splendid. I should know OpenBSD is fairly secure, but the security comes with a price tag and it's interoperability is slightly hindered, as is its performance but it works better than Windows XP on the machine that it's installed on; I hardly hear the drive when it's under load on OpenBSD.
But yeah, accountants usually have paper backups. Although, recovering data that you need to actually work with from paper would be excruciating if there were very much of it.
The answer is no. The best plan is to backup, backup and backup.
Any physical dinking around may provide a one-time shot; however, you cannot open the drive and successfully transplant the platters. Also, you cannot simply swap the PCB with a healthy donor--without exchanging the EEPROM chip, which is programmed specifically with that drive's specific "contact points" (ie. start sector, maintenance sector, how far to swing on each track [basically any imperfections during manufacturing]).
I am with you. I really won't be too obsessed with the Mars rover because there aren't too many feeds from it. It's scope to the public is limited, unlike the Olympics.
That being said, this is HUGE. The discoveries of this rover will be comparable to the Hubble Telescope (if successful of course) but like HST, it may have some hiccups and upsets; we shall see either way.
Honestly, how did the Mayans make pyramids much like Egyptians? Some say Ancient Aliens, but perhaps there is a very real, extremely subtle connection between peoples on different continents?
I remember some big executive saying that "these are our patents. We own them" and I sat listening and said to myself, the Chinese are making it? Say goodbye to your patents; it's theirs now.
Most people are unintelligent, then?
A person is very smart. People are dumb and scared; they say it in MIB so it must be true.
Since there is so much news on this topic, when will it be added to the list, like "hardware," "linux," "security," etc?

Isn't it true for all technology today? It's called progress, even if you don't like it or agree with it.
Wait until Windows Updates re-enable disabled UEFI setups
Quantum Entanglement would permit FTL communications.
Does anyone read science news these days?

This is the USA. Do we make much sense anymore?
Once you add children, then 48K is not really much at all.
I agree with datavirtue. If you can, learn some new skills. It may be stressful, but it's good stress and it mixes things up a bit.

Bitcoins can only be created and/or used by people with computer hardware. That's an initial cost that the poor are unable to afford.
Let's hope food, clothing and other life essentials don't become traded by Bitcoin.

Been trying it and I don't use the Metro interface apps, at all. Even using Explorer, everything has been moved and it just sucks.
This OS is a nightmare. It's not even Windows; it's "Metro" because the only windows I get are in the "desktop app" which emulates Windows 7.
You've got my vote, sir because you're dead on right.
I've heard from my friend that Windows phones don't allow "copy" and "pasting" operations.

Yes, native applications are easier to run versus LISP, Java, Python or Ruby which require an intermediary software to run.

Perhaps this is where OCR can be helpful?

they'll make enough of these fucking things that I can actually buy one!
LK
It's all about price. The Gooseberry and ODROID-X are all above $100, which makes it not nearly as desirable as the Raspberry Pi @ $35.
If these PCB computer makers want my business, they'll have to sell below $50 because I can find a PC that at least has a hard drive for that price.
Honestly, how did the Mayans make pyramids much like Egyptians? Some say Ancient Aliens, but perhaps there is a very real, extremely subtle connection between peoples on different continents?
And we wonder why it's so bad to work with the Chinese? China Venture Is Good for GE but Is It Good for U.S.?
