Pretty much par of course for them. For years now OpenWRT is becoming more and more bloated, to a point it is hard to make it run smoothly in the standard base device (WRT54GL). I haven't been able to use the standard image for at least 3 years now, having to build my own removing as much bloat as I can...
No shit. Every time I heard someone saying he plans on building a private cloud on his computer, I ask myself why he just doesn't buy a mainframe.
I mean, not every server farm or server room can be compared to a mainframe. But these days, when companies have VMWare clusters and what-ever clouds, it is impossible not to draw a comparison since, functionally (and sometimes structuraly) they are pretty much like mainframes.
The regular desktop PC, and even notebooks, are becoming more and more irrelevant. Yes, there is still a long way to go, but we are seeing more and more of a convergence between platforms, what with cell phones, tablets and whatnot becoming more prevalent and main business tools. Heck, I'm an IT geek, and I rarely carry my notebook around anyway. I do most of my work from my cell phone (hardware qwerty keyboard). I keep seeing more and more people ditching their notebooks for tablets.
And I sincerely don't think Windows can survive outside the PC market.
... don't think I've ever seen a movie where that happens (planes getting hijacked that way).
Die Hard 2. Except it was a room full of computer shit in a nearby church, rather than a smart phone. But, you know, technological progress and all that.
That, and they used hardwire (cable) to connect directly to the airport network.
It is the same reason you don't see "Linux inside" on your Android phone, or any of the other hundreds of devices you see around you that are "secretly" running Linux. Know that credit card reading machine (POS)? Almost always, Linux.
The Operating System became a commodity, and the only think that is marketable is the interface.
The moment your computer becomes public (however limited that "public" is), it is a goner. It is like asking how to secure your computer after it was compromised.
I don't even let my visitor plug into the same network my main computers are, and have both a separated WiFi network and a separated ethernet segment for them (1 port only in the guest room), that I treat as a DMZ. Ok, I'm paranoid, but still.
Maybe use removable HDs, and keep one for your own use, and swap it for an entirely different one (which you can restore from a Ghost image or something) for your guests. As in PHYSICALLY disconnecting your HDs when they are going to use.
Otherwise, it is like using band-aids to stop a leaking dam.
YMMV, but some of our friends did what you suggested and pursued law. Unfortunately, there is a huge glut of lawyers out there right now, and their pay is (from what we're hearing) rather miserable, with long hard hours as well. I'd be interested to hear otherwise.
Money is really not the main issue for me. Even if my income drop something like 30%+, I'm still ok, if I can have somewhat more regular hours and, overall, live my life.
I do agree that is not the same for everyone but, then again, one of my friends is going the Psychology route. Law school is, mostly, my personal example.
contrary to popular belief sales is marketing and marketing is sales. he needs a sales manager apparently, that's for sure. but why the fuck he would have needed to ask from someone who doesn't know what product can be in the first place what the product should be..
Sales is not marketing. Sales is the objective of marketing. You could even say that sales is how you measure the efficiency of marketing. Marketing itself is strategy, and begins (at least it should) before the first prototype happens.
You realize that one of the key purposes of marketing is to determine if a product is even marketable right?
HELL no. In my experiences, marketing people have no idea whether a product is marketable.
That leads me to believe that:
1) You know little about marketing 2) The marketing people you know know little about marketing
While I can't say #1 for certain, based on the little you wrote, I can say that #2 is true most of the time.
Having worked on companies of all sized (ranging from IBM all the way down to my current 7 people company I own), I have to say that it is easier to find good professionals on ANY field than to find competent marketing people. Marketing is not sales, it is not advertising and it is not product comparison. Marketing is strategy, pure and simple. Unfortunately, most marketing schools don't focus enough on strategy, or the mental part of marketing, leading to crappy professionals.
A good real marketing professional is worth his weight in stocks.
Original poster here. Yes I did market research and I know there is a demand for the product. But there is a huge difference between market research and actually going out and marketing the thing.
If that is really the case, and you have quality research, including a complete business plan (market study and analysis, competitors study and analysis etc etc), then you need sales and advertising.
Marketing, real marketing, is the study and strategy part of business.
Lets keep in mind that "market research" is just a tiny part. Having a demand for a product is very different than a product being marketable. It is the difference between "I wish" and "I'm willing to pay for".
That being said, it is entirely possible you have the basics of marketing covered, including the knowledge, and you only want someone else because you want someone that is BETTER and dedicated to it. If that is the case, you should be able to do performance analysis.
I have to tell you, two things you said worry me. First is the "there is a demand for the product". The second is asking how you can measure performance. Those things lead me to believe that you have a flawed understanding of what marketing is, which can lead you to waste money and time while figuring it out.
If I'm correct on this assumption, you should spend some time reading a little bit on what marketing is, how it works, and what I can do to your company/product. That way, you will have better tools to analyse the marketing person/company you will be getting in bed with.
It's running Gingerbread in a near-third world country. It has features useful for Brazil (it's dual sim). It's probably a bit on the expensive side, but it's not necessarily underspecced just because it's running gingerbread. Getting the software to support all the hardware reliably is probably the main challenge for this Brazilian company (as it is for my Norwegian one, still waitting for my LTE tab updates, grr)
As a brazilian who is the owner of 3 android phones, I have to say that Gradiente's iPhone will tank. There are much better options here, not to mention cheaper.
If Gradiente wants to compete in the brazilian cell phone market, they should worry about Samsung and Motorola, not Apple.
For a long time, advertisement didn't bother me. I refused to use ad blocking addons, and considered ads just part of a trade. Sites give me content, I look at the ads.
Then came pop-ups. Pop-unders. Flash adds. Ads with music. Ads that would make my cockatiel go into convulsion, and start to drool and chase the neighbor's cat. And I have to tell you, my neighbor really loves her cat. And being chased by a drooling cockatiel will really humiliate a cat, and all dogs will start making fun of it. Not an idea situation.
So, back to the issue at hand. What MOST sites did was poison the well: no one can drink front it. It got so bad that I eventually had to start using ad blocking addons.
Now people want to implement VOLUNTARY sensitive advertisement and privacy practices. Obviously, they are trying to convince people we no longer need our ad blocking addons. By saying they will do something that is exactly the opposite of what they have done so far, ostensibly.
Sure, some sites will do the would Do Not Track dance. But those are the same sites that already respect our privacy and my neighbor's cat. Exactly the ones that don't need it.
The ones that need it the most, will just ignore it.
Fun, isn't it?
Fuck Do No Track. I will keep my Javascript and Ad blocking addons.
Pretty much par of course for them.

What's with the "f_ck" and "a_s"? If you thought the word and probably say the word, why not type the word?
Fuck and Ass. There, no one died.
The original content was redacted, so it make sense to redact the joke.
"Military intelligence", is that something analogical to "celibate Irish friar" or "honest politician"?
No. It is statistically possible to find examples of said friar and politician.
"Military intelligence" is more in line with "Santa Claus" and "Easter Bunny".

I shudder to think what booby traps you set up to keep your house guests away from your silverware and jewelry.
You assume I care about those things as much as I care about my data. I don't :)

The devices are supposedly only sold to law-enforcement agencies and government agencies.
Gosh, I feel so much safer now :(
Can't these guys get that this kind of stuff, in the hands of the government, is EXACTLY the problem?
Drives are made of aluminum right?
Remember not to smoke while you use that approach then.
I see you noticed the "extra" beauty of the process :)
I find a bath in NaOH to be a very effective way to destroy media past any possible recovery. Specially if you are going to incinerate it afterwards.
NaOH is also very cheap, and available everywhere, making it a wonderful low budget solution to use in the less cosmopolitan parts of the world.

Working in IT (started as support drone, now admin and consultant) for 20 years.
Back to college right now. Just started Law School.
Most of my friends either gave up IT to just work in management, or are in the process of switching fields.
The comodititization of IT destroyed it.
Somehow I fail to see the relation between windows/office sales and holding back innovation.
Quite the opposite. Maybe they should innovate, getting better products, so people will buy those.
Google? Visa? RIAA/MPAA?
Or is Google going to cut funds to sites AFTER they are ruled illegal in a court of law?
The real problem is WHO IS GOING TO DECIDE. There is where freedom dies.

This is true for Brazil only. There are no official retailers of the iPhone in Argentina due to import restrictions
Sorry. You are correct. I should have been more specific.

I'm not saying Brazil isn't an interesting market, but it probably isn't in the top 5.
As far as cell phone are considered, it is.
Apple DOES NOT sell their phones "officially" in Brazil or Argentina (and most of latin america).
You are wrong. Apple simply doesn't see it directly (their own store).
Apple phones are sold by at least some of the cell phone companies (operators), and it is quite official.

install to virtual machine, then make copies of that virtual machine. problem solved.
Pretty sure the license will forbid it.
