I'm only 18 today, but I watched the movie (with Forest and Lt. Dan), and I know it probably isn't the most accurate thing in the world, but it sure did make those folks at NASA look like some badasses, at least to me.
It's too bad the space program got left in the 70's, then scrapped when we ran out of money.
Anyways, chalk another up for our good friend RMS
What about the people, like me, who bought a bunch of games while still using windows?
What, did you think I don't want to finish Half Life 2? Or pwn some noobs in CS:S?
I like those games, but I hate windows more. When I get steam working on linux I'm definately going to be buying more games.
Carmack, you're a cool guy and all, but c'mon.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go play Quake 1 on a linux native engine.
I'm gonna go ahead and play fortune tell here:
The Government passes a bunch of privacy violating cyber laws
Everyone thinks its great for a day or two, then forgets all about it.
A Republican gets elected down the road a year or four
Everything is business as usual
Some kind of scandal or some other such nonsense happens
Everyone blames the Republican and calls him a fascist
Rinse and repeat.
How about, oh I dunno, giving steam to those who have been waiting since forever instead of the kiddos who are just starting to use linux? (i.e ubuntu)
Other than writing different exploits for each platform, this really isn't that amazing.
Of course it's just a few if statements and there you go.
Come get me when someone takes down an entire country with a stuxnet clone
A desktop os is only a vehicle in which to launch a browser.
Do you work for apple, or one of those companies always trying to sell me a visible mass of liquid droplets or frozen crystals made of water or various chemicals suspended in the atmosphere above the surface of a planetary body?
'If it is there, it should just be there for the IT people or tech support to use when you encounter a problem.'"
Ahahahahaha.. Oh wait, you're serious? Let me laugh harder.
I, for one, fix my problems myself with a little googling and occasionally some help from my home-dawgs on irc, I don't need Apoo to fix anything for me.
This is the kind of thing that's ruining everything for those of us who know what we're doing and want to learn more about how things work inside.
If Linux distros got rid of the command line, I would.. well.. I would switch to *BSD.
Now turn it loose with a few Grand Strategy games, Real-time Strategy games, and Counter Strike for good measure.
And don't forget a copy of The Art of War.
This should turn out well.
Contribute to an open source project?
It'll keep you sharp, let's you work with other people, and it won't look bad on a resume' if you contribute a lot and do good.
Honestly I think this is one of those areas where we can play god and get away with it.
If it helps people, and hurts no one, then do it. Science is a beatufiul thing, and it shouldn't be shafted when it helps people.
I was looking at my related links on another page, and I see these two stories right next to each other: "1342 In America, 46% of People Hold a Creationist View of Human Origins" and "1226 Debate Over Evolution Will Soon Be History, Says Leakey"
So which is it?
"The guy who gets shot at doesn't like our gun, so we better just throw it away"
We all know that's the real issue here, the bleeding heart liberals who want to be liked by our enemies.
Also pro choice and ron pual 2013
>the main use will be internet/email/word processing
Why even bother then? This all could be done easily on one of those horribly outdated xp boxes all the schools have.
Unless you have a bunch of kids who are eager to learn about computers and the way they work, just stick with windows.
Do you ever get tired of having such an awesome beard?
First they make you leave your pick-axe outside, then they stop selling magic items
Nethack has gone to shit.
They clearly aren't trying hard enough, or are trying too hard.
Either/or.
How appropriate that you're anonymous. Oh look at me, dropping hints like that.

As a gamer who has spent about as much on controllers as I did on my console, I do not think this is a good idea.

I always thought people went to wikipedia to, you know, look shit up, not look at some ad or a bunch of stupid effects no one wants.
