    AOL for the Mac ironically uses Mozilla now. Or at least the OS X version of AOL does.

    Yes but WHY?

    Thats like saying instead of buying a car with gas already in the tank, you could instead buy an empty car, push it down the road 50 miles to the nearest gas station, OR walk 50 miles to the gas station and lug a can of gas back with you OR wait for someone to drive down the road so you can siphon some gas from them.

    Is there something in your geek DNA that can't see that making something HARDER than necessary is not a good thing? The computer comes with a browser IE which is good enough for most folks. The browser wars are OVER. Accept it. I don't even use IE myself but that doesn't mean I don't like having it there as a default browser which I can use to download other browsers.

    The Netscape employees were a part of AOL that did not earn AOL any money or entice any customers to stay with AOL since AOL itself used the IE browser for its client software.

    So why again should the parent post be modded down?

    Did you or did you not see him mention AMD's Operton? The P4 is not the best x86 chip on the market. AMD's 64-bit Operton is. And yes its faster than a G5.

    It really shows just how much of a geek you are if you think people actually think about software in general to begin with. Most folks just USE whats there and thats that. They don't know or care that Windows and IE is proprietary or that Linux and Mozilla are open source.

    So no, Linux isn't going to change how people think about software because most normal folks don't think about it at all to begin with!

    5. I HAVE a private telephone number and I STILL get telemarketing phone calls. Why should I have to be sparse with what companies I give my phone number too? I can't control who they're going to share it with.

    6. Who cares if it puts the telemarketing industry out of business? Is this some great loss to humanity? What kind of fucked up individual would actually be saddened by this? Murders? Wife beaters? Satan? The Iraqi Information Minister?

    Let me spell it out for you if you do not understand what this industry stands for: The Telemarketing Industry Exists Soley To Annoy The Living Fuck Out of Every American In The Nation!

    I have tons of MP3's on my computer that I've downloaded off the net.

    I also know its stealing. Most other people do as well. They just also know there is a very small likely hood that they'll be caught.

    Do you get just as pissed when the media refers to "crackers" as "hackers"?

    How many people on the planet do you think give a flying about the difference between the two? In most peoples minds a hacker = a bad computer guy and a cracker = is either a type of food or a slur against white people.

    And to most folks copying IP without renumeration = stealing. I know you and RMS and the other open sourcers burn at the thought of this but thats just the way it is.

    You can't learn how to work in groups without going to college? You can't learn how to learn without going to college? Jeesus has the G.I. Bill managed to brainwash several generations. No wonder they're helpless when they find themselves unemployed despite having degrees. Its gonna be one sad day when the nation wakes up to the fact that ever soaring university tuitions are no longer a good financial investment seeing as how most IT workers won't be able to pay off the loans with their jobs being outsourced overseas left and right.....

    No I did not go to college. I still make several hundred thousand a year. Of course those two facts are wholly irrelevant. All I am saying is that the path to becoming a great programmer is not limited to the collegiate path alone.

    I'm afraid what I do for work must ABSOLUTELY contribute to the national GDP. OSS may or may not do that depending on how succesful the project is, how widely adapted it is and whether or not it increases productivity.

    Plus I'm not a coder. Even if I was though, working for free doesn't gel well with me.
