We all think that mutations happen daily, but that is far from the case. In fact genetic mutation is very rare because we have error correcting enzymes which travel back and forth on DNA strands correcting them as they change. Typically the DNA "code" is changed as subatomic particles rip through your body, just as you've explained with RAM.
Yes, our DNA mutates. It doesn't stay that way however. Statistically there are more errors in a 300 page book then in a mile long DNA sequence. Actually there are about 0 errors in DNA because of this self-correcting mechanism.

Welcome to my 'Foes' list Mr. O'Connor. You are number two to the now famous (and banned?) "Ralph JewHater Nader".
Your posts are often retarded and this is the last time I want to read a post of yours. You can't even spell simple words right, and a glance at your blog shows that you are nothing more than a functional illiterate.
These polls are nothing more than "interesting". The Redskins won't elect the President, 7/11 is only trying to sell coffee. Mere statistical coincidence - get over it.
I know, it hurts when they don't support your candidate but you'll get over it. Polls showed Bush getting over 300 electoral votes, I didn't cry because they are just polls. It won't matter until we vote.
Instead of couting how many visitors went to one site, count the number of sites a person visits within each browser. Firefox is a power-user's browser, the most important market segment. As power-browsers give feedback on their favorite and open sourced browser the product, the browser will become fine tuned and ready to take the entire market.
Firefox has grown leaps and bounds in a short time by using open source ideas allowing them to exchange code with their (main?) Mozilla project, they have already laid the foundation for a perfect product.
Since you seem interested read The Lucifer Principle by Howard Bloom. It's about the willingness to fight (because memes are strong enough to make us).
By following the google search below you can view 'inside' the book:
Regardless of your opinions of those groups, you have to agree that no conservative foundation would ever be likely to donate money to them.
I love when people say that the ACLU is a liberal only organization. It's the American Civil Liberties Union!
Regardless of what you think about a few of their cases and clients these are the same people who defended the American Nazi Party! You don't get any more conservative than that.
We are talking about a group which defends the Constitution of the United States of America. After all we live in Constitution-based federal republic which means the rights of one trump the requests of many. Without groups like the ACLU your beliefs may have been outlawed years ago. Doesn't matter if you are Catholic, Jewish, Methodist, Atheist... Communist, Conservative, Democrat, Libertarian or none of the above.
There is no substitute for adequate/superior manpower, that is, quantity is in some cases
Don't forget about heart. Many times in history the smaller force has won because they believed in their cause. I'm not trying to say this is 'wrong war' or 'wrong time' but people who join a fight because they believe it's the fight of their generation often win.
Many of the soldiers in Iraq are inexperienced (National Guard), naive ("We'll roll over Bagdad") or they think they don't belong there (Blood for Oil). Take into account the belief that Iraq was nothing more than an upscale Afghanistan - it's far from it. More like Western Europe with sand. When Saddam "fell" they faced resistance from militias and that depressed them (because civilians were kicking their asses).
All in all, the soldiers were lied to. Not so much about why they were fighting, but who they were fighting. A war against Saddam has turned into a war against Iraq - something they were never prepared to fight.
Cisco joins a long chain of American companies who buy out the little guy, thus increasing monopolization. There should be laws against this sort of thing
Cisco does not have a chance at monopoly status. They also aren't buying a rival router manufacturer, just acquiring a company which will add to their technology portfolio.
But, monopolies in themselves aren't illegal. I learned that in the third week of "economics". It is the actions of companies that get them into trouble. The definition of monopoly in my econ book reads something like: One business that can fulfill market demand at cheaper prices than two or more companies.
Basically, it can be good for the consumer in some cases (think gas & electric) which is why being a monopoly isn't illegal. It's when others try to take your sole status and you crush them and the innovation they would bring to the table...
I've signed up to be a Kerry campaign volunteer and they've called a few times to take me up on it. Once a lady called (with the sexiest accent evar!) from Texas asking me to help. She explained that I live in Ohio and we are a swing state and they needed me to canvas, etc, etc...
She went on to say that they (the volunteers) have written off Texas because they not only get their signs stolen but bricks in the windows and so on.
Then I felt bad about all the times I've wanted to throw bricks through the windows at Steve Chabot's campaign headquarters. But then again I didn't. (Steve Chabot has a corner office in a small town that is all windows. All of the windows are full of campaign signs - before Labor Day. This is significant because the city where it's at, Cheviot OH, has a law about signs going up before Labor Day...)
its not even a quarter of the resolution of hdtv...
I assume your HDTV does 2496x1344?
Considering most HD sets aren't the maximum 1080i, what is your point? If your xbox is hooked up to an HD set, watch the normal programming... again what is your point?
My current monitor is set to 1280x1024... beating most sets sold today (even most HD sets).
NVidia has done a good job at keeping the drivers up to date, in fact... as much as they do their Windows drivers (if not more). I applaud them for this.
Provisional ballots are probably one of the worst ideas ever. They seem tailor made to insure fraud does occur.
You obviously know nothing about the provisional ballot system.
First, let me point out that it was part of the "Help America Vote Act of 2002" and anything that Ken Blackwell has done to block provisional ballots is in violation of that law. Our Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell, violated that law. If he thought it was wrong then too bad, law is law. He did challenge it and lost in court, law stands.
Now, where the fsck were you in 2000? Many voters said that they were turned away because they weren't on registration lists - and they had no recourse. Nothing could be done and the vote count went ahead without their votes. With a provisional ballot you can go ahead and vote, even if you don't appear on the registration list. Your vote isn't counted (it is held separate from other ballots) until it can be proven that you indeed had the right to vote.
Good idea in my view. Regardless of the vote (for or against my guy) your ballot isn't just tossed aside. How is this bad?
(I should note that this affects a great deal of people who vote at places other than where they should. If you can't make the trip home to vote when you work 40 miles away you can vote anywhere. They then see if you already voted, if not they count it. I should also note that my tax money went to sending me a card that says You Must Vote At:... when it isn't even true. )
October 22, 1941 Microprocessor Co-Inventor Mazor is Born
October 28, 1937 Microprocessor Co-Inventor Hoff is Born
Odd isn't it? Although I didn't know who to credit with the invention of the microprocessor because Wikipedia tells me that Federico Faggin invented it.
Considering the page on Hoff says he invented it (without any other credits) I'm not sure who to thank. Stanley Mazor doesn't even get a page. Which Slashdot nerd will help us at Wikipedia fix this?
Seriously, you brought up ACiD which reminds me of a story. Once I was "experimenting" with the drug by the same name and was fsck'n around with the computer. I found a chat (called #acid) which had a few of their members in there discussing some design stuff. Well, being fsck'd up I decided to mess with them because I didn't understand at the time that they didn't have anything to do with the drug scene.
In my experience, VCDs look pretty bad no matter what device you're playing them on.
Well, you've not had the right VCD's! I've encoded some beauties. Plus you need a good decoder, because as I mentioned some don't fully decode the entire stream (they do their best giving you artifacts).
The issue about resolution is *almost* pointless when you realize your TV (if not HD) isn't that great to begin with and it scales very well.
While I love the Dreamcast (practiacally downloaded every game for it!) I can't recommend this as a solution.
Ever tried the VCD player? VCD's have, by standard, constant bit rates and pretty easy to decode as they are uncompressed files - the Dreamcast doesn't do that task very well. You'll notice blocks and 'smears' where you never seen them before.
Much like your own DNA.

Ok, I said most... not *yours*...
Take a look at most sets sold at Circuit City or Best Buy. Many are sold as 'High Definition' yet they can only do 720 max.
A good example of this is those 'EDTV' sets sold by Gateway, which are top sellers.
