    The Idea of Groklaw has basically been handed over to the community. As far as the current site i think the number of Law|Business courses that reference the site would like to have a fixed site to reference. Plus i think running the site has come very close to killing PJ.

    umm i don't exactly see the FAIL here

    1 the reactors were "end of life" anyway
    2 they got hit by events OUTSIDE the plans (quick name me all of the quakes in that region 0.5 points below what they got hit with and greater)
    3 the reactors did in fact get shutdown
    4 the cores are more or less intact (but are of course now glowy scrap metal)

    5 didn't they in fact restart one of the reactors (the one that was least damaged)??

    your problem comes from the limits involved in amounts transfered. as a non paid member you are severely limited as to how much money you can have in your account.
    Even if you are a paid member you can't have a lot of money until your account is a bit older.

    And any very large amounts for a new member will trigger the anti fraud stops. (hint if you want to be Lady Heather in SL you will have to be a member for a couple months at least and adult verified and have payment info on file)

    easy way to fix that kind of thing.

    1 go to the bank and withdraw that $400.00
    2 find a local teacher and take her out to a nice restaurant
    (bonus if its one that does not allow kids)
    3 Enjoy Your Meal!
    4 pay the check and then hand her the $400.00 and tell her to have fun with the money (she will most likely buy stuff for her classroom).

    In fact i would suggest anybody wanting to fix The World begin by doing this on a regular basis.

    heck if you have access to a small computer shop most of them will sell you an OEM copy for cheap when you buy %nontrivial computer part% (say a hard drive)

    easy way to sort that one out

    prior to each election everybody that is planning on voting confirms
    1 their registration
    2 the method of voting (early and or absentee voting for those that can't vote in person on that day)

    then those folks plus 1/2 of the folks that just "showed up"
    form the base of the quorum (you then require ~60% of that number as the quorum)

    about the only thing that would work is

    1 after you vote you get a 2 part chit with
    A some sort of machine readable code block that records your vote
    B a serial number (which is generated semi randomly to prevent it from being reversed to the votes)
    2 you then separate the 2 parts and then dispose of the votes part
    3 come tax time somewhere in the deductions section of the form you then write your serial number(s) in and you get an extra deduction for each valid serial
    (a single person gets 1 serial for each election and a married couple gets 2 for each election)

    Or simply throw out the results if a quorum of votes has not been reached (since not voting is in effect voting for none of the above)

    some stores have a "get caught and you are FIRED" grade policy that you can not sell more than say 3 unactivated phones to a single person.

    actually if you note that equal numbers of left and right handed amino acids were produced. I think the left handed ones would be considered toxic to any "life" being formed
    plus the experiment filtered out a bunch of very nasty TAR from the gunk. so unless you can even using a pair of 100MW tesla coils and a "beaker" the size of a small shed get a pocket of just right handed amino acids then the staff of AIG and ICR will not give you any points.

    actually i said nothing about evolutionary biology not being science and if you note i addressed both sides as being MODELS.

    and truth be known most of my science teachers were in fact pastors or deacons.

    Not science is that first picosecond after that science can be done.

    organic chemistry is all about stuff after the second picosecond (offset by however long it took for organic chemicals to be "invented")

    The Creationist Model is not within the realm of actual science. However the Evolutionist Model is also not within the realm of actual science.

    basically science does not apply to the first Picosecond of the universe as we know it.

    Now we can do all sorts of science things to prove or disprove elements of either model but you absolutely must begin by deciding you will base everything on

    geek challenge:

    figure out a way to add serial number recording to the most common type of bill counters.

    note the scanning process should not add more than 5% to the time it takes a current counter.
    Limiting the reader to US currency is fine.

    Most devices not either don't care (light bulbs) or put their power through an AC/DC conversion step anyway. So what would really need to be thrown out if you switched

    Umm that AC/DC coversion does not exactly handwave the difference in 50 or 60 hertz current so it might actually matter.

    hint after you run it down your bridge rectifier coming out of your cap filter your ripple will be
    (dc load current)/120|100*capacitance

    and some thing may not be able to handle that much ripple

    okay so if you are going to charge everything and part of the cost of SMS then you need to figure out what fraction of everything is actually used by SMS as apposed to phone calls and other data.

    if its found out that 99.99999% of the cost is taken up by everything else then yes it could cost them more to bill you for a given message than it does to actually handle the message.

    what google should do

    when the spider runs a site it should notice how many links are A above a certain complexity B link offsite C link within the site

    then run the math (A+B)/C and then apply that to the ranking (so that in a search with 2,000,000 hits these link farms land up on the bottom)

    i would also rig the results so that smaller sites with a narrow focus get pushed above mega sites that are keyworded to EVERYTHING
