    I don't believe anyone here is saying that most or even many cops would abuse this. The problem is that we're also enabling those few who _will_ be abusing this power.

    Anyone else bothered by the fact that the tests on Windows were using named pipes while the Linux ones were using unnamed pipes? I'm rather certain that named pipes would be slower in the first place...

    A bit off on the economics. Yes, Microsoft can charge at the monopolistic equilibrium - but that would not be the most efficient as far as society as a whole is concerned. Free markets only work correctly tgiven the presence of competition - if there is no competition, some form of control must be used in order to achieve maximum social efficiency.
