Why do you want to make a monolithic kernel (minus the scsi controller)? Building a modular kernel isn't that hard, just a matter of putting " make modules ; make modules_install " after your " make dep ; make clean ; make zImage ; ". There are several cons of building a monolithic kernel these days. In my experience the first think I have is that, for me, it's too big to be a monolithic one (even with make bzImage). That's why I build everything I can as modules. They're simple (IMO) and smart. If set up right (usually the case) they are only loaded when a program needs them and unloaded shortly after I turn off the program (my bttv modules do that anyway). That ensures that it only uses the RAM it needs and no more. One question though, that SCSI controller isn't the one you hook up your scsi harddrive to (I'm assuming your harddrives are SCSI only..) is it? in which case you'll HAVE TO build support for it in the kernel itself (no modules here).
>- directional indicators : most British probably ever even heard of them. What?!?!, I've been in and out of the UK for quite a few years now, and they DO use directional indicators properly (most of the time). What you are describing sounds like Spain, Portugal, Italy, or perhaps France. On my visits to these countries the only time I saw the dir. indicators blink was when I saw people turning on their car-alarms.

If I had a rear end aching as much as the rear end of our buddies from Oz, I would have left the country months ago.
First they let the government nail'em in the rear when they decided "No, not even adults can watch them titties on the Net" Then Earlier this week it appears that the corporate sector is also nailin' them in the rear by allowing the highest bidder to know EVERYthing about EVERYone. And now this?
It makes me wonder... What kind of sick mass-masochism do the people of Australia suffer from? Or does the word Government make them run for the hills?
ps. that limit of 250Mb (the page says Mb not MB) traffic allowance is rediculous. I'm using an antique of a modem (28.8Kbps), I don't spend anymore than 4-5 hours online (tops, even on weekends) and I STILL have a monthly download of around 500MB (MB not Mb) ----
I once had a math teacher who hated statistics. Why? Because most of the time they don't tell you anything. He said that people doing this kind of statistical stuff decide on what the results should be before doing the actual counting. Sure, we love these numbers, but they ARE FALSE. Someone wanted Linux to look the best wrt market share (can anyone name a slashdot reader who wouldn't=), but let's face the music. _As much as I want Linux to exceed M$ Win*_ I want it to do so fair and square, we've just gotta be patient:)
I was at a carshow a couple of months ago and among the sights was a car fitted with LCDs in the headpads of the front seats (thus allowing those in the rear to watch them) in the trunk was a PlayStation which was cracked to allow playing of DVDs in it. All this was connected to a "normal" car-radio unit (and a big one too) which had its own LCD. Now THAT'S something for the kids on long car trips:)
Disclaimer: I am not a US citizen, nor have I ever been a US citizen. I have not been to the US.
Who said US was responsible for freedom to non-US citizens? The beyond-stupid export regulations bring more harm than good. IMHO the same applies to the constitutional right to possess a 12 gauge shotgun; sure it's every person's right to protect their home, but AFAIK gun-related deaths/accidents outnumber homes actually saved by having a gun in the house. Don't get me wrong. Surely the Congress or the House of Senate means well, but unfortunately things don't work the way they should.
Ah, so.. it's a one-way thing? I.e. Americans are the only ones who get to stereotype the rest of the world?
I mean, hell, everybody else must be plain stupid if they don't play american football or baseball. The rest of the world must be pretty stupid since it's playing proper football (american: soccer). As for Formula1? What's that?.. Oh.. I see, it's like Indy 500, only it's not american!
A word of advice, take your head out of your a$$ and look around you. The world does, amazingly, NOT revolve around that thing called US of A.
Remember, Icelanders are the decendants of Vikings, a very fierce and warlike tribe!
Fierce and warlike tribe huh. Then perhaps you can tell me why we haven't raised weapons in war since the 13th century? AFAIK we are the only nation in Europe, and in the industrialized states with that record.
ps. I wouldn't call that thing with the Brits between 1960-1976 a war, but it's amazing how fast they "surrendered" when we threatened to leave NATO:)

Already in practice where I come from. In my homecountry of Iceland there is an organization formed by artists themselves and record companies. It collaborates with the radio board. Every month or so all radio stations send a list of songs played to this org. The org. then does some math and calculates how much each artist should be paid. The radio stations then pay the org. which then pays the artists for their airtime. IF the radiostations don't pay their dues they will be shut down or prohibited from playing music as a result.
Someone beat them to it. I seem to recall reading somewhere about this guy in NY who's suing God for not giving him talent. He bases his case on the fact that Jimi Hendrix as well as several other musicians have thanked God for their gift of musical talent.:) The story ended by saying " To this day God has not commented on the case "
There is a mentioning of the Netscape Navigator debuting in '96. I've been an avid internet user since mid.'95. I even have my first internet software installation discs floppies. What I have there among other interesting things is Netscape Navigator! (ver. 1.0 or 2.0).
It takes me an hour to install and set it up, whereas it takes me only 15 minutes to install and set up RedHat, BUT I prefer Debian to RedHat because Debian offers a helluva lot more packages on a CD and it sets it up so that you have to be pretty darn stupid/unlucky to mess it up. Debian being able to install an RPM just as easy as its DEB is also a big help. I also find that Debian deserves at least some credit for including Alien as a part of its dist. Alien transforms your rpm/deb/tgz into deb/rpm/tgz using only a simple command. Another thing about debian is that it only releases stuff that is 99-100% stable, unlike RedHat.
What I don't understand is why you are all making such a fuss about it. This is the daily bread for internet users in other parts of the world, I mean.. if you want something good, you PAY for it. The capitalists you claim you are should damn well follow your capitalistic spirit and pay for your phonerate and be happy about it. Freebies are for communists! YES I consider $20/month or whatever the phonecompany bills you A FREEBIE if you get local calls for free. Then again most of you don't think that far ahead, paying the phonecompany could help YOU in the future. Who knows, maybe Europe will take the lead in internet usage when the Americas lose their advantage. At least I'll be hoping that this reduces bandwidth-wasting JUNK on the Net.
