The part of the article I hated the most was Valenti being quoted as saying "...you could download a million movies a day, and no penalty for it." Why? Because that isn't fair use and this bill wouldn't allow that! It's mostly a problem of extremes, where each side fails to see the gigantic gray spot they mistake for a thin line between each side. Of course, I feel the industries fail to see that grayness alot more than intelligent consumers, or is that an oxy-moron?

  7. Legitimatizing Online Music on Hearing on Hollywood Hacking Bill · · Score: 1

I believe the best way to fight the RIAA in this battle is to give them nothing to fight about. Establish peer-to-peer networks that actually do NOT condone illegal transfers. Promote bands who allow the trading of their music. Use the peer-to-peer internet radio protocols to build communities of musicians and listeners enjoying new, original music all the time and build a collection of music we dont have to worry about getting cracked down for. Don't let them change our ways, lets change theirs. What will they do when they don't own any of the music being traded and becoming so popular?

  11. just stop it on FSF Issues GNU/Linux Name FAQ · · Score: 1

I'm sick of the GNU/Linux vs Linux wars. Especially since the GNU Project themselves seem to be the only ones who care about it.

Look, if you just say Linux, you and most the people listening or reading know you mean GNU/Linux because GNU is so embedded in our minds for free software if we use Linux.

Those that don't have GNU so embedded, might even have lots of non-free software in use on the system and therefor its not really GNU because by their own definitions an operating system is a collection of programs to do things, and thus those non-free programs are included in that users operating system and it is thus no longer GNU to the name.

Besides, we're lazy and don't want to type the extra four characters. They really make a big deal out of nothing.

It's just words and language and language is ever evolving. Don't expect evolution to follow your whims.

I've never liked Apples and Macs, which is suprising since the first programming I did was on an Apply IIc at school. Oh, how the children gathered 'round. Yes, I was actually popular in that class because I was a geek. Most the activity periods of the year were spent with me coding and the rest of the class watching in amazement at my 'Im' game and other programs. And all with just a single 5.25 to last the year.

Anyway, then I move to Macs in art class, and use a mouse. A horrid thing of a mouse with one button. I'm sorry, but I can never get used to that. I can't even stand 2 and I'm about to opt for a 12 button. Yeah, you heard me right.

I admit, OS X is a nice idea. But the problem is that the hardcores like their flexability. its nice to have choices. Those that Mac OS X does no so easily offer. Port the latest Linux with UML support to OS X, and then maybe I'll give it a try. Hmm.. damn thats a good idea. Just run the X server on OS X and there you go. Well? Hop to it Maciphyles!
