A pharmaceutical company [can't remember which] has a patent for the gene that causes breast cancer. In other words, if you want to know, if YOU have breast cancer (or testicular cancer, which I believe are caused by the same gene) in YOUR OWN BODY, you (your doctor) have to pay the company money (I think it's ~1,900 UD$) to get the dna-screening. If that is true, then it more or less proves my point - 800 gigabytes per site is NOT and unless they start using funny math never WILL be between one and two terabytes.
A quick glance at a retailer-list of hard disks tells me that the biggest drive available is 160 GB (IDE100). You need between 7 (1,250 GB) an 13 (2,080 GB) of those. The biggest SCSI drives are 73.4 GB. You need between 14 (1,041 GB) and 28 (2,055 GB) of those.
That's one HELL of a hard drive rack!
Or maybe the customs official is speaking out of his ass, and the 1 - 2 terabytes are per person and NOT per computer.

As a software user, I value free and/or open software, because it is often gratis, and because I "know", that even if the author of the program decides to discontinue support of it, it will probably still be able to get support for it, as there are probably some knowledgable people using it, who knows just how to fix a problem, be it a work-around or a patch for the program. I am yet to see a user-created patch for Windows 3.1...

Blowing up at 1 km tower and killing three people won't do that. Sending two planes into two towers where roughly 50.000 people work WILL terrorize people.
You can rebuild a 1 km. tower, but you can't rebuild the sense of security lost, when someone blows up a work place of 50.000 people and kills 4.000 people in the process.
Kinda curious. If both codexes are supposed to use 910 kb/second, and they were used to encode the exact same slice of film, then how can they end up at different filelengths?

Lets assume it will last 20 years, and it will cost another 670M AUD during that 20 year period.
That means it will cost 67M AUD/year.
100 MW average.
100 MW * 24*365 hours = 876 GWh.
67M AUD / 876 GWh = 0.00007 AUD/kWh over a 20 year period.
Now - paying 0.007 cents/kWh isn't that bad. Even if they charge 10 times as much as the actual cost to produce it, it's only 0.07 cents/kWh.
Of course, these are some rather big assumptions.

29 MB/910kb/second = 261 seconds VP3
