This is a great technology and can only get better over time. Unfortunately I'm unconvinced of potential consumer acceptance. People will usually buy something that is cheaper (incandescent bulbs) then somthing that is more expensive but will last them longer and use less electricity.
I own a few compact flouressant bulbs which use 1/3 the electricity and last at least 3 times as long. These lights pat for themselves at least twice over. Unfortunatley not many people have adopted them because they cost more than their incandecent cousins.
What needs to be done to gain exceptance for a better technology?
Can we change a culture so use to one technology?
I think awnsering these two questions have greater implications further than LED lights, such as fuel cell technology an hybrid cars.
You shouldnt be using gnutella network anyway. Ive tried it a few times both in its infancy stages and the most recent client. The fact its reliabilty sucks. 95% of downloads you attempt fail.
The napster and fast track network actually worked when I want to download things. Unfortunatley napsters gone now, morpheous has not only turned to the dark side of "spyware" but also is using the aforemention crappy gnutella network, and its only a matter of time until Kazaa is shut down by the 'man'.
I'd be interested in seeing if gnutella ever gets better. It looks like it will be the only surving P2P. I guess I'll just stick to good ole FTP and its 6 sigma( grandios exaggeration) reliabilty.
In other news, Pentagon spending on a mobile Nuclear attack tank was revealed yesterday. The project code named "Metal Gear" will supposibly be equipped with a electromagnetic, nuclear weapon launching "rail gun".
The proliferation of weapons like these just disgust me. They're going to destroy the world and these people call themselves "Patriots".
Yes the quality of US commercial beers may not be on par with canada's but it does have some real good microbreweries. Saranac (a very large, almost commercial one) in New York makes some fine tasting beers.
I've never been a big SW fan but I really disliked phantom compared to the rest. However I don't think Attack of the Clones can be worse than the Phantom menance (except for the title:).
I heard Jar Jar is just going to show up in the interplanetary councel.
One thing that has always bothered me about all the Star Wars movies was being able to blow up this gaint ship with one shot (both deathstars, and the base in phantom menance).
When Lucas can come up with some battle sequences that rival Star Trek 2: the Wrath of Kahn then maybe I'll be statisfied with star Wars in general.
"What does this mean to open source software, which is being used to a greater extent in corporate environments? Food for thought."
Who exactly would you sue?
When you use open source you have the opportunity to inspect yourself. If something is wrong with it, you should have checked.
With closed source you don't have that option.
Example you buy a tv at a pawn shop (open source). You plug it in, and it doesnt work. Or maybe you were dumb and didnt plug it in at all. You choose to take it home anyway and try to fix it.
Example two you buy a TV all sealed up in a box and arent alowed to check it (closed source)and you get home and it doesn't work. Then the person who sold you the TV is responsible.
I'm a Chem Engineer so i have a little more math experience then most chemist and in that sense they probally are lacking. But I would disagree with you on quantum mechanics.
I took 2 PChem classes. The first dealt with mainly thermodynamics, the second dealt more with quantum mechanics. The 1st class has been very useful while the second class basically useless. The only practical application I can think of currently for quantum mechanics is in the semi-conductor field. Most things in this world are on a Macro scale.
And out two friends Kinetics and Thermodynamics are important there. Which chemists should have a good understanding of.
So in defense of chemists, they really don't need a great deal of quantum mechanics training.
Do you actually think you are ever seeing Aluminum. Thats right boys and girls aluminum in atmospheric conditions is always coated by a layer of AL2O3. Aluminum will be oxidized as soon as it hits air. This is the basis for corrosion.
But Veramocor, when Iron oxidizes and forms rust it'll continue to corrode. If aluminum is oxidizing in atmospheric conditions why doesn't it degrade? Because the aluminum oxide forms a protective barrier which prevents the diffusion of oxygen to the surface of non-oxidized aluminum. Iron oxides do not.
This is also the basis for stainless steels which have a high Chromium content. Chromium reacts with oxygen to form stable chromium oxidesand thus prevents corrosion.
I disagree. The court may be conservative on social issues, but conservatives also believe in a strict interpretation of the consitution. That combined with the free thinking liberals may make this not as open and shut case as you believe.

I post this just to read other peoples comments and bam like 10 people who said basically the same thing.
Well their results may correlate well but does this prove the hypothesis that sleeping more is the cause of an earlier death.
NO WAY! Correlation does not imply causation.
Here are some things to consider, was there something else physically wrong that made people sleep longer. Or possibly people who sleep longer have less time to exercise or socialize.
I'll give an example. People who use Nictotine patches are more likely to die than the "normal" population. Wow nicotine patches kill, dude. Wrong you'd be assuming a causal effect. The real thing that is killing them is that someone whose using nicotine patches is most likely a smoker.

I thought I'd buy the Fast and Furious 2 to see if the copy protection really works. The "cd" of course said I could return it if defective. I went to return it and it was a no go. I tried to explain that it didnt work, but they didnt get it.
BTW eac is able to fix the defective TOC and then rip. Not sure about the ripped audio quality, i'm not an audiophile.

looks like you are right. using simple models you would get unpaired electrons but not with MO theory.
ChemE to much engineering not enough chem
Oxygen has 6 valence electrons. lets draw one of those nifty electron valence shell models. Each dot is an electron.
.
:O.
..
Oxygen "wants" a complete electron shell so it forms a double bond with another oxygen, each sharing its 2 unpaired electrons.
O=O
no radicals there.

for any of you ultima fans, U4 is availible for download without violating copyrights from the Ultima dragons.
Also check out www.moongates.com/u4"for the midi upgrade and the 256 color upgrade.
Finally anyone who's interested in updating other Ultima games should go to www.fansforultima.com
It even links to a few remakes in progress.

What speed do you think the NSA could crack a PGP encrpted message. Say a moderatly strong 2048/1024.
1. Assuming they just had the message.
2. Had the message and public key.
3. Had the message, private key and public key.
Or is encrption just too hard to break even with the fastest computers at your disposal, without a mathematical shortcut.
