It seems like a lot of people are confusing CS and Software Engineering and aren't aware of the differences. I think that a lot new students want to be software engineers but most schools only offer traditional CS programs. So it's only natural that they are going to be turned off by what seems to be math courses with no relevance to what they want to do.
CS is very important to have and I love it, but I think many schools dismiss the importance of having a Software Engineering program as well.
You are an idiot. Version control isn't that simple, even in a smaller project. Merges and Tree Conflicts are something that everyone should learn how to work out. I'm not saying it hard, but the sooner you are introduced to these concepts the better it will be in the long run. I would hope that after using a VCS that the students would continue to use it later on in other class projects.
Because it's cross platform and keeping 2 databases up to date is a PITA. The typical use case for KeePass is if you have multiple computers with different OS.
Things are bad in Mexico right now because of the warring drug cartels, but it's hard to say how this new law will affect them. I feel it's the a step in the right direction though, because hopefully law enforcement will be able to focus on more important things like busting the dealers and leaving the consumers out of this whole mess.
I've seen a few places that teach students alice in order for them to become familiar with looping and conditional constructs before they move to something else. I think with all the visual stuff going on it would appeal more to younger programmers.
Most high school seniors are lazy and blow off thier senior year. Add to that the fact that most of them don't care about tests that don't affect your grade, and you get those results. In my HS when we were given "extra" tests, a lot of my classmates would skip class or just fill in bubbles.
Why haven't these two posts been modded up?? The parent's post would be correct for most things. But if the virus cannot attach itself, then it cannot propigate and those making the person imune. No matter how many times the viruses adjusts itself, if it can't attach then it can't work.
Hmm you must not have read the post above yours. All those things are hacks, but they are not very friendly solutions. IPv6 can change all that by giving each machine all the ports it needs. If you have 1 IP address you can only have 1 port 80 on your internal network. So that means you would have to purchase more IP's or change a lot of configurations to have multiple webservers in your network. Me and my brother like to use the same P2P applications, but I have to configure each of our machines to use a differnt port on the firewall. With IPv6 I wouldn't have to change the ports.
Those are easy examples, but imagine how much time you would spend if you had 30 or more machines with individual ports to configure. It can get out of hand keeping track of which computer has which port. And adding that many rules into the firewall will take a while. Now with each computer having it's own IP you can have one rule that allows traffic on that port to go through your firewall and all the computers on the network would recieve the packets that are destined for thier IP.
I think it would be really cool if he did the story with Thrawn or some stuff from the X-Wing Saga. The Thrawn saga was amazing because Timothy Zahn did a great job with the story.
But I would also love to see the return of the emporer and luke turning to the dark side. I loved the comic. But I don't think you could make 3 movies out of it:(
What's wrong with DVD's? I mean compressing am HD movie down to DVD size isn't going to hurt your quality that bad. It's not like taking a DVD and making it a VCD. The quality is great and you'll be able to play it back on your DVD player. And I don't know about you guys, but a 2CD xvid rip looks great on my TV with my computers TV out. So no problem there.
I don't think anything can stop piracy in this digital age short of goverment monitoring all our traffic, big brother style. And with encryption this is probably not going to stop piracy.
Well I did the same thing with my parents before I left. I had 3 computers in the house and one of them was a my linux server. So of course no one touched it. Once I found out I was going to be moving to a place where I only had dial up, I realized that my server had to stay.
So I switched all their programs to the linux variants (Firefox, Thunderbird, AMSN, Open Office). At first they were scepticle, but I told them it was to prevent viruses.
Then 3 days before I left, I took my linux computer and gave it to them. And said You can use this just the same or you can fight with my brother for the other computer. They were shocked, but eventually they came around. All they do is browse the web, chat, and check thier mail.
NO Problems what so ever. And if there is, I can always SSH into the box and fix it for them. So it took a few months, but it was worth it. And my parents are now using Linux!!! I never thought Ide see the day.
Does this mean that the IM can have 128 bit encryption? I know gaim and trillian have it on their clients when you use AIM. I hope AOL will do this also.
Read the article at anadtech. It's the roadmap for Intel. And discusion of all the processor currently in the market. They Discuss why the Xeon isn't getting the nice FSB upgrade even though they need it the most.
From a performance standpoint, things make even less sense once we start looking at Intel's plans for the Xeon MP line for 4-way configurations. Intel's Xeon MPs will continue to use a 400MHz FSB through the first half of 2004, even as the processors reach speeds as high as 2.60GHz. Intel's reasoning behind this is mostly to allow for a single upgrade path without forcing enterprise customers to upgrade their motherboards as frequently as we have to on the desktop side, but it's clear that the performance of the processors will be limited by FSB bandwidth. Remember that Intel's MP solutions rely on a shared bus protocol, meaning that in a 4-way Xeon MP server all four processors must share the same 400MHz FSB. This essentially quadruples the FSB bandwidth requirements of the server, and the Xeon MP happens to be the processor that will have the least amount of FSB bandwidth out of all of Intel's enterprise CPUs.
Read the Forums on Doom9.org. They have allot of great information on how to capture video. Also any video card with VIVO or the ATI ALL IN WONDERS can capture video.

That's a problem with the curriculum then which is easily solved by assigning group projects that are due at the end of the term.

I have a 4 year software engineering degree. The only downside to it is that I don't feel comfortable going into a CS graduate program.

I agree with everything you've
Novel ideas usually don't live on by themselves unless they become useful.
The guy had an itch and he scratched it, there is nothing wrong in that. Not everything that is made has to be useful.

Maybe now I can finnaly get an Athlon 64 laptop with a Radeon 9800 Pro!

If had mod points I would give them too you for this is the same prediction I would have made. :D
LOL I thought it said it has i386 # of pieces!

Will Gmail send invites again so that we can enjoy our terabyte of storage? Imagine, they could store 100 users on 1 disk!
:(
And poor hotmail will barely be reaching it's 1 Gigabyte storage.
It was released on our private forums about 3 days ago. I waited for most of them to test it out to see it was bogous or not.

Why not use a bunch of cantenas ?
