I'd wager dollars to donuts that the fires in the US West are outputting more pollution than all the SUVs sold in the past 3 years.
At any one time there are about two dozen active volcano's spewing 30x more CO2 into the atmosphere than all human activities combined. Perhaps we should require discharge permits before allowing volcanism.
We all know what was done to the Native Americans just because our forefathers liked the idea of a country that spread from sea to shining sea.
Pocahontas' Uncle formed an alliance which wiped out 1/3 of the colonists. Which had some small effect on the mood of said Forefathers. See the book "In their own words".
There's a correlation between having lights on in a bedroom and developing myopia. My take on that is it allows reading in bed, and when reading in bed, the book is held closer.
There is a theory that the genetic ancestors of myopic children might leave an artificial lamp burning at night, in order to more easily navigate a toy cluttered nursery in the dinural period.
Volcanic activity is 95% of atmospheric carbon. And here we sit Carping about 5% of 5%.
Ever notice that the source of environmental activism is from urban areas? In my view... political reactionaries are stirring up people affected by a lack of exposure to nature. Seems that people who only see nature through glass are more concerned about "goings on" in the sticks than the people who live in the sticks. Unfortunately 51% of the voters can can be stirred up into voting to piss in the cornflakes of the other 49%. That's how Hitler did his best work... Stirring up the masses aginst "enemy de-jour". I heard on NPR (National Peoples Radio?) yesterday, liberal people wanting to take away the free speech rights of Nazi's in America. Makes me wonder who is worse. The tyrants who back Hitler, or the Facist opposition.

Sorry Lumpy... Can't be done... for three reasons:
A) These aren't Scientists! They are the same children that are addicted to shocker films.
2) Three things sell eyeballs (news-papers, TV time, web page hits):Sex, Novelty, and FEAR! III) No-one remembers failed predictions. (Today (2002), we are supposed to be in a disasterous (ice age, overpopulation famine, post metor darkness, nuclear winter, etc). According to 1970's Scientists)
HP, Compaq and Dell provide more than the hardware. They provide services that go along with the HW.
Yeah... They provide the OS... maybe not.
But if you have problems, and are willing to spend 35 minutes being quized on the phone. You can coerce the vendor into comming out to sell you over-priced components. Then you get to pay for your experienced (expensive) Geek escorting the vendor's sub-contractor's Geek into your data center. Doing something your Geek could have done in five minutes.
I don't think that any datacentre manager worth his pay is going to pull out $100,000 HP N-Class boxes in favor of $2,000 Intel clones. So are you saying that you could move more people with one Cadillac than 50 Yugo's.
Somehow, I can't see cameras being a useful defense aginst someone willing to die. These are only useful as an intimidation factor to keep the drones in check.
>>I sure wouldn't want to work near a tank of hydrogen.
>But you probably own a device that has a tank full of much more dangerous stuff - it's called a car.
Not likely... I've seen auto-flambe, and I've seen the Shuttle Challenger. I'll sit next to auto-flambe any day.

STAMP OUT VOLCANISM. LIFE ON EARTH DEPENDS ON IT!

Now you can cry that the sky is falling!
not any more wasteful than spending money designing and creating newer and bigger SUVs
Not all of us want to live in your party's thumb.
Yes... But Environmentalism is used as a weapon to rally the mob behind (brave leader) aginst (bad enemy). That's how elections are won.
Environmentalism is also used as an extortion tool aginst business, by same (brave leader). That's how campaign coffers are filled.

Time for a reality check.
