I've lived through the Sixties, and Seventies... Any time I see a book title begin with "The comming..." I get out the barf bag.
If you would believe ten percent of them, the world ended in 1999 by: The comming "Over Population", The comming "Fuel shortage", The comming "Struck by a comet", The comming "Famine", The comming "Plague", The comming "Super Nova", The comming "Global cooling", The comming "Global warming", The comming "Not enough socializm", The comming "Dogs and Cats living together", The comming "etc".
My wife's grand mother told me she saw it all in the Twenties, when the disaster mongers then were called "Worry Willies".
Anthony Diperro wrote --Darwin didn't say anything about survival of those with the best eyesight.
Darwin said those with traits leading to increased survivability. And yes eyesight to avoid predators, and assist in catching/gathering food or mates would count as a survivability trait.
Having a shell is one of those things which can allow a indivduals to utilize a resource others (non-shelled) cannot.. But the shell comes with a cost. Cost of development, and cost of lost mobility.
It's not that evolution stopped working. Evolution is still going strong. We developed our brain enough, that our species can survive without selecting the most durable physical traits. We can grow and store food. Through livestock we utilize what we cannot use directly. Basically we manipulated the environment (agriculture and irrigation), out-smarted or sub-ordinated the competition (predators), And utilized resources other creatures cannot (fishing). Hence we don't need to be physically stronger (there's a little Sun Tzu).
The ability for indivuduals with fatal traits (under the old world) to survive is a recent thing, and only exists in a few places.
Now if the food supply becomes constrained among the homo sapians. then you will see competition and survival of the fittest.
Now some may think what we've done is wrong... But ask them after a few weeks of not eating.
I think you did not understand "Animal Farm", which is about Socialism. Animals happen to be the characters.
Are we exceeding the logical limit?

Actually our dear friend Vlad (Vladimer I. Lenin) had this very idea for military buildup. Vlad said "Quantity has a certian quality". Served very well in the Korean conflict.

Hey, you obviously don't live in the prime dairy area of your country.
Actually I do. California is the largest dairy producing state in the US. Not the largest number of dairy cattle, but the most efficient. It's also a large beef cattle state. 90% of the private land is grazing land. In my area it won't rain from mid June until late September. And won't grow a thing for you or me without irrigation. The grass grows in the cool wet winter.

Actually it's about 15:1. Cows are about 17-20% efficient on weight wise feed conversion. And much closer to 30% on protein conversion (15 lbs. of 17% feed yields 1 lb. of 90% meat protein). Even though they eat stuff we can't (grasses, and agricultural by-products), they yield about 33% meat and 66% byproducts (dog food; leather; bone meal; insulin; gelatin; you know stuff we don't need). Cows are raised on marginal land. That's grass land that's poor, too steep or rocky to be plowed, irrigated, or raise other crops).
Now a lot of second guessing about our diet goes on by people who know everything. But the bottom line is...
We eat what we eat because we evolved with our diet and our environment!
So for those of you who don't believe in evolution... just get over you little hangups, and leave the 99% of the population to eat what they evolved eating.
resturants actually pay a fair fee to have the grease "disposed"
There is kind of a game to play here. When I had cows, and one died. I called the rendering plant to take it away. They always wanted US $35. But I always managed to talk my way out of it. It would go kind of like this:
ME calling RENDERING PLANT: "I have a dead one for you to pick up".
RENDERING PLANT: "We'll get her tomorrow. Is there someone to pay the pickup fee".
ME: "I'm already taking a loss, and you want me to pay to have her hauled?"
RENDERING PLANT: "YES, we have our expenses too".
ME: "I can't pay any money to dispose of her, I'll call the tallow works in the next town".
RENDERING PLANT: "OK we will come and get her this time".
only a positive thing if you presume that the used fryer fat would have been dumped in a landfill instead of being otherwise recycled.
Great point...
All used fry oil goes somewhere. Here in California, it goes to the "rendering plant". I don't know what how they treat it, or what it becomes, but it is collected and recycled. For that matter, when livestock are butchered, all parts are used. Even cattle that die out in the pasture are collected by the rendering plant.
Why is it cool to think that the United States Government is out to spy on everyone and in general fuck things up?
I guess you did not believe the story about the woman who was sexually harased by a govenor who became president. When she complained, her husband lost his job (worked for a company whose CEO was a friend of said prez). They got audited by the IRS on their combined $18K income. They got smeared by the president's sexual harassment defense lawyer and the un-biased press.
Now why would we want to limit the power of these people?
Perhaps we need to form the "International Technical Siblinghood" ITS.
Then when this kind of thing happens. The ITS members could support the walkout of the ITS local #666 over customer civil rights issues.
Suddenly nobodys DNS sees the offending company. Hmmmm wonder how that happened.

I want to disagree with the part about Vegans being healthy. I have worked with Vegans, and I don't think I have ever seen a Vegan that I thought was healthy. They are frail, easily excitable, have translucent skin and are out sick more than parents of small children.
Even though I claim to be a "Card Carrying Carnivore". I believe a healthy diet includes lots of fruits/vegetables. Important is a large variety in the types. Meat is an important part of the diet for us Omnivores. Grains are energy, and will make you fat (stored energy), best for making beer.
So now we're down to quoting Chomsky (previous poster).
--snip--the average American uses more than fifteen times more electricity in a month than the average person in China, and thirty times more than the average person in India. I
Of course the average american uses more electricity. The average American has hot running water, owns a automobile, a computer, a TV, and lives in a sturdy house. The average Chinese or Indian has no plumbing, never seen a telephone or TV, let alone a computer, and lives in a house that cannot with stand a magnitude 4 earth quake.
Should the American public go back to the stone age? That would make Chomsky happy.
Yes, yes, yes... Some one finally get's it right. You forgot the part about the "polar vortex". That's where the air at the poles tends to circle the poles and staying in the shadow of the earth. Shaded colunms of air receive no UV light, and hence no new O3 (ozone) is created. The O3 in the shaded colunm decays. And you have the famous "Ozone Hole".
