I'm not sure if I'm in the minority but when I see any Live TV service like this or Sling TV, they seem overpriced. I don't subscribe to Live TV (Cable, etc) because it's comprised of a bunch of shows I either have no interest in, hate or don't fit with my schedule. I have no reason to pay more for that unwanted crap, then a fully on demand service where I can choose what I want and mold it to my schedule, for less.
Back in February, I had Team Viewer running 24/7 on an Ubuntu Desktop. I had a "strong" password, using letters, numbers and symbols. I was at a customer site installing a new Asterisk phone system and suddenly I get notifications from Paypal that I'm buying large amounts of virtual currency with NCSoft. It took me all of 5 minutes to realize what was happening and change my Paypal password and in that time, several grand was spent. It took me a week to get it all fixed, which isn't that bad.
Team Viewer Support couldn't care less. I asked why they wouldn't even notify on an account that's never been accessed from outside the country and they had no answers. Now, what could I have done better? Setup Multi-Factor Authentication for Team Viewer and Paypal. So, some of the responsibility is mine. However, I find it very strange that someone could have hacked or guessed that account's password. I asked if they had a breach and they reported that there were no problems, of course. Notification and confirmation of suspicious activity should have been implemented by them a long time ago.
Just in case others weren't aware, there will no longer be 32 bit ISO images of RHEL or CentOS. So, you'll only have the option of 64 bit from this point forward. You can always install an older release, of course.
Here's somewhat of an explanation from Red Hat: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/509373
I'm curious how this will affect me. I've been doing a lot of CentOS based Asterisk systems. Last time I checked, Digium absolutely would not support the 64 bit version of their drivers and so it was recommended to use 32 bit if you want support. It could have changed by now, I'll have to look into it again.
Several Linux users are reporting audio issues. The initial movies play audio properly but then the sound of the game is pretty bad. Running Ubuntu 14.04 x64, I was able to resolve all sound issues by doing the following:
1. Typed: sudo nano/etc/pulse/daemon.conf 2. Found and changed the following parameters: A. default-fragments = 5 B. default-fragment-size-msec = 2 3. Saved file (Ctrl + O), Exited (Ctrl + X) 4. Typed: pulseaudio -k 5. Launched Civ 5, no audio issues now.
1. Use Firefox. 2. Make sure Firefox is closed. 3. Run: sudo apt-get install libhal1 hal 4. Run: rm -rf ~/.adobe/Flash_Player/NativeCache ~/.adobe/Flash_Player/AssetCache ~/.adobe/Flash_Player/APSPrivateData2 5. Launch Firefox and enjoy.
After I did this in Firefox, I was able to watch them in Chromium too but ran into problems trying to get it working in the first place in Chromium. I've read that Google Chrome simply won't play them on Linux because of some recent changes Google made. So, yea... not as easy as it should be but it should be watchable unless I've missed a different reason why they're not watchable for so many users.
I don't know if it's just me but my computers pretty much never die. I've been building them myself since the mid 90's. I stopped upgrading when Core 2 Duo came out because the PC I built still runs everything great today. I wouldn't use the Athlon XP 2000+ system I have that still runs because it doesn't run everything great but it does still work. I really don't see it being a problem with computers lasting so much longer but I could be an odd case since I don't buy stuff from Dell, HP, etc.
Well, then to you the theory makes complete sense and that's great. I refuse to believe that we're all a bunch of randomly evolved creatures at this point from way back in the day when we were tadpoles in the water. It's simply retarded to me and the day I'll believe it is the day we get it on record.
GL to you Norm, this is my last post. Although I completely disagree with you, I have to respect you for at least not being an idiot.
I think we're talking about slightly different things here, Norm. When I said "Theory of Evolution", I was referring to Darwin's Theory. His ideas were based on Macro-evolution. You seem to be talking about Micro-evolution, which according to him, leads to Macro-evolution.
Regardless, though, it's not the ideas I have a problem with it's the armchair mob. Microsoft's evil, Linux rocks, Creationism is for retards, Evolution is fact, etc.
If we're going to talk Micro-evolution then yea, there's proof of that. It's not the entire theory though and it's not what his ideas focused on. It can't be used to prove the rest of his ideas are correct. I'm talking about whole ideas here, not partials. Hell if we were going to do that, Jesus was a real guy right? Well, I could say that proves God exists.
Looking at your user number here, I'd say you've been around Slashdot for awhile. I'm pretty sure, just because of that alone, you know what I'm talking about. No one's perfect but people here need a wake up call IMO.
A scientific theory is a possible explanation based on observation. The only problem is that the explanation covers more years than we'll ever exist. So we have small clues that lead us towards believing one thing or another but the truth is that it's believed on faith, not scientific fact. No one can observe whether it's actually true or not.
You can't point me to credible sources that say it's 100% true with evidence because it's not even remotely possible at this point in time. I'm not here to convince people what they believe is true or false though, only to try to get people to read and understand what it is they're even talking about.
There were a few good comments on this article but most of the comments were pure crap coming from uneducated minds that think they're smart. It's a mob mentality and it's one of the reasons I don't visit Slashdot much anymore.
"You all might want to start reading something before just taking sides without information because you like or dislike something you hear. Start reading or STFU about it, seriously."
First off, Creationism/Intellident Design/Evolution aren't necessarily competing ideas. Why couldn't everyone be created and then evolve from that point? I'm not arguing that's how it is, it's just that the two sides generally fail to realize it in this completely worthless and time wasting debate.
Second off, the THEORY of Evolution is a theory because it's not been proven. If there was a mountain of evidence, as some idiot put it in his comment, it'd no longer be a theory.
You all might want to start reading something before just taking sides without information because you like or dislike something you hear. Start reading or STFU about it, seriously.
I found that if you go to Tools->Manage Add-ons (Req. XP SP 2 of course), then select to show "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer" and finally set Windows Genuine Advantage to "Disable" and then Restart Internet Explorer, it lets you do Windows Update just fine.
I was surprised to find out I get this type of speed on my cell with sprint. The latency is about 300-600 and isn't too stable but it works pretty good for downloading or some web browsing. We use it at my company for snyching our service tickets with the main office wirelessly.
I'm sorry but I don't care how much "scientific proof" whomever has, I just don't believe it. I think this is just another case of the infamous Junk Science that so many love.
I personally have introduced computers to thousands of people over the last 12 years and I've noticed that stupid people stay stupid while smart people stay smart. There are of course exceptions... like the smart guy who decides crack could be fun, heh.

Definitely pfSense! You can build your own router with parts from PC Engines.

When I click the link about the ruling I get taken to an article about Wire-Free laptops...

I've posted the same on the Steam forums.
Seconded! There's no way in hell NIS performed at this level on a legitimate test. It's shit and that's putting it nicely.
Here's what I did in Ubuntu 12.04 to watch them:
1. Use Firefox.
2. Make sure Firefox is closed.
3. Run: sudo apt-get install libhal1 hal

pfSense and others like m0n0wall will work on Netgate's ALIX Kits: http://store.netgate.com/ALIX-Kits-C86.aspx
They're small and actually look like a router.

"Nobody can say if GNOME 3 is better or worse than GNOME 2."
GNOME 3 is *worse* than GNOME 2. By far. Plus more.
I was reading it and suddenly can't, it's not responding anymore. I guess it is!

Alright, the theory of evolution has been proven then, ey? Wow, I thought I would have heard that on the news. Where's your sources?
While we're at it, has the theory of gravity or relativity been proven now too?
I'm going to quote my original post for you:
"You all might want to start reading something before just taking sides without information because you like or dislike something you hear. Start reading or STFU about it, seriously."
Get your panties in a bunch because someone threatened your narrow views?
You're as much a joke as the religious zealots.

That's called piracy ;)
Adobe discounts from $599 to $299 for a student copy of Photoshop currently. While that's a good discount, I think it's still too expensive.

Gotta love the excuses that cost us our freedoms...
