I don't know why Lycos is all high and mighty all of a sudden, their reputation isn't that great. Granted I dislike spammers more than Lycos but still... something about a pot and a kettle.
Personally, as a heavy Gnome user, I think the changes in Gnome 2.8 alone are worth the new version of Fedora. I've been waiting for "File Types" to be fully functional for awhile. When you want bleeding edge, you have to have a rapid release cycle.
I was at a Microsoft OEM System Builder conference for the release of Windows XP and Intel just happened to be showing off the Pentium 4. They did a video encoding benchmark, the pentium 4 2ghz vs the Pentium III 1ghz. They had *1* stopwatch, started the Pentium 4 and then 15 seconds later started the Pentium III. Then when the Pentium 4 only made out twice as fast as the Pentium III, they started saying how great it was that it was 2x the performance. They never accounted for the 15 second head start that the Pentium 4 had... meaning it wasn't even twice as fast.
Regardless of whether the P4 is good or not, that was a pretty crappy thing to do and when about 20% of the crowd commented on it, the Intel guys merely say "that didn't happen".
I was psyched when I heard they were making this game until they announced they weren't going to put Cooperative play in it. Even the original had Cooperative play and that's part of what made it fun. There's at least 15-20 people I know who won't be buying the game because of that specific reason.
Horrible Multiplayer, no Cooperative play... that's essentially a one shot single player adventure for $54.99. If it was $29.99-$39.99 I would purchase it but now, I refuse to spend money on it. If I hear alot of good stuff about it, I'll ask for it for my birthday or Christmas or something.
Actually, I could care less about such wonderful things as GUI Errors for the moment. I would just love File Types to work properly. Then again... when I add a new File Association, it is kinda fun to keep adding it over and over until I get mad and go watch TV.
Redhat's whole server line is just a ploy to get the most money possible out of free software. Anyone who uses Redhat Linux at their company either A. Has people that will take care of the problem way before Redhat will, reggardless of whether they are in house or a 3rd party or B. Uses Windows instead
I've been using Redhat's "Consumer Line" for awhile now and will continue to do so. I have had no real problems and the ones that I did have were fixed by me.
The article doesn't describe anything other than how excited this guy was about the features he saw, which he really didn't go into, and there are no screenshots.
The more annoying the advertisement, the more people that will try to find a way to block it. I'm sure with a little programming, it won't be a problem to do so...and it may not even need that.
I sit here and look at the ads on Slashdot while I'm typing away...I don't look for long and I'm not interested in what I've seen so far but the key part is that I am looking at them. If the ad popped up in my face or made me click links, etc I would immediately find a way to stop it and ignore whatever it says because I'm too irritated to care.
I love a good technical challenge but alot of open source software does have usability problems. You can't do work if you can't get programs that are supposed to work to work when you need them to. Besides that, features are ignored because the author just wants to make the program just work. For instance, I have like 300+ pictures from Vegas but I have to click on them each one at a time and then go back and remember what one I clicked on last. I finally found a picture viewer that the "next picture" feature actually works on, that's just sad. That took me away from what my actual goal was and no, this isn't a biggie but when they add up over and over, it's very irritating and slows the production of what you wanted to accomplish in the first place.
I was really interested in Solaris when I saw the original teaser but then I recently saw a trailer for it and read some discriptions of the movie and it seemed like a sci-fi romance to me.
We could engineer some bacteria to eat ICE/Rock/Dirt and that could survive in only non-oxygen environments. Then we could mass produce it and launch it at the Asteroid. Maybe with some luck they could eat it all?
One of the things that I've noticed is that many employers are charging alot more for their products and services but are paying their employees alot less then they are worth. It's been an employer's dream always to have this happen but it's no longer a dream.
For instance, I just got done working at this computer service based business in where I was making 36k/year. I'm worth 55k/year and when hired was told that "it would be no problem" if I were motivated, etc. I quit when I found out that the max anyone makes there at the company was 36k, heh. I was there for 2 years.
Well, the charges that we were giving customers was insane. If it was after hours and on a weekend, they were being charged like $400 an hour for computer service. Granted it was pry to fix one or two of their servers or something but still, that's some serious income for the company and yet I get to see none.
No tech jobs I find want to start anyone much above what I was making and most are lying to me about what I could potentially make at the company. There's a whole slew of $8/hour jobs around me, especially if I want to go into the food service field./me commits suicide!
People love to take things out of context, hype up situations and take things to the extreme to liven up their own lives. There are alot of people on the planet that are not bored... but there's alot more that are. Take the flat earth society for instance... these people just have nothing else to do, I refuse to believe that they are that stupid in this age.
My name is Monkey and I am an Economic slave. Close as I can figure it the year is 2002 AD and I'm being taxed to my death. It wasn't always like this... I had a real life, once.
Mandrake has a bad business model and has to recover from previously bad management. They have a great distro but it won't be for long if they don't start making some changes in the right direction.
We've all been wondering what they're gonna try and blow up next... now we know.
I'm not sure exactly what it is but there is some source for something in Team Arena out:

CounterStrike: Condition Zero went gold twice before it came out. HL2 is gonna be so much better, it'll pry go Gold 3 times!

Hey...this coupled with secure network access through a free copy of say Wingate would be... er hmm, nevermind.
I'm a rapper and if I made it big, 12 cents wouldn't be enough...that's for damn sure.

lol, the post was meant to be funny but in general my posts are not moderated properly. I guess I should have put a smiley on there or something.

"This just in... citizens of Zimbabwe have eaten their own limbs in an attempt to save themselves from the ever dooming bankruptsy"
lol, yea I know. Like I said, they must not have anything else to do, hehe.

Since most of us are pretty stupid anyway, does it really matter? I mean the Flat Earth Society is still around for Pete's sake!

Ahem, did you see that snow the other day? It's April for the love of God!
