  1. Losing the Insert key on What's A 'Scroll Lock' And Why Is It On My Keyboard? · · Score: 1

I find myself a little chagrined at the loss of the Insert key on modern keyboards. While perhaps not very important to the everyday computer user, I find myself missing a key feature (bad pun) without the key.

I would much rather lose the backtick and tilde keys as they serve less purpose than the SysRq key and MUCH less purpose than the Insert key.

    Bring back the Insert key!

  2. Spreadsheets and word processing on What is a CAVE Good For? · · Score: 1

There simply isn't anything about using spreadsheets or word processors today that is enjoyable. They are the epitome of redundancy and boredom.

Taking these to the 3rd dimension and immersive could make the profession of accountant and secretary more attractive to young college graduates.

  3. Re:*BSD for Windows XP? on IRC Forum with Matthew Dillon of DragonFly BSD · · Score: 1

BSD is an operating system, so it actually can't run under WinXP. It gets to run all by itself.

You could install it on another partition and actually dual boot BSD and Windows (dual booting is where you have two operating systems on the same machine, side by side). You can only run one operating system at a time, though.

You can download the latest FreeBSD ISO (bootable CD image) from here

The amount of warez traded on IRC is immense and exceeds ftp warez traffic by a significant margin. The kiddies can do their Google search for warez, but the real underground is in IRC.

Hosting an IRC server in this day and age is like running an illegal music swapping site in the open. At some point the powers that be (the RIAA or the BSA, for example) will act, so why tempt them in the first place?

I find it hard to believe in this day and age that any company could stoop as low as to advertise that they are USB 2 compliant without actually complying with USB 2's most outstanding feature: speed. What would Knuth think if he were alive to see this kind blatant erosion of trust in hardware manufacturing?

Get a good filter, use whitelists, whatever. Just don't think that you will be able to eradicate spam without governmental help.

Previously thought to be only legend, the Geekus Majoris was discovered in the basements of MIT and UC Berkeley simultaneously in the mid 1960's. Their main habitat is underground and they frequently live with their parents until they find a mate and move out.

They have in recent years become more common outside of their primary habitat and are frequently seen skulking about shopping malls and video stores. They seem to have an affinity for Japanese anime which explains their attraction to small woodland animals.

They are the masters of camouflage. Some have developed the ability to blend in with the normal populace, though most are only able to appear homosapien. To determine if the creature you are viewing is a Geekus Majoris observe the fingertips. Bright orange fingertips are the telltale sign of the species.

No one is so callous as to completely not give a rat's ass about their neighbor, but it is more than difficult to find ways to help them than to feign contempt.

When effective people like Dr. Eva here go out and turn their ideas into reality it benefits everyone. If she were to go into politics the world would have been less one innovative scientist. Worse, the world would have been up one know-it-all politician.
