We used Delaney Cards when I was in school what ever happened to actually taking attendance? I mean I get that in Uni you might have 300 kids in your class, but attendance is not generally required. In my high school your attendance was determined by Home Room. If you were there and missed any class during the day one time within a marking period you got an automatic 65 in the class, 2 times and you got a 41, regardless of what your actual grade was the computer overrode it. You could be an A student and get a failing grade because you missed class 2x. If you had 5 unexcused absences (missed homeroom) within a marking period, you got a 42 in EVERY class regardless of actual grades submitted by the teacher. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Without access to the school computer you were doomed to multiple semesters of night school and summer school if you wanted to graduate on time. Simple solution if you ask me.
Not to mention that you can choose to control yourself being tagged in a photo. FB will send you notice asking permission if you so choose. Its not a perfect solution but at least when some clicks "Pictures of they wont see that one of you barfing at the fraternity party or peeing in the neighbors pool.
Somehow I doubt those workers have been or are going to be laid off, I mean why would they, they obviously have some work for them to do now.

I was born and bread in NYC for the first 31 years of my life. The father of my best friend for most of those years worked for both, the MTA and the City as a maint worker. I had the 'pleasure' of meeting many of his co-'workers' They are not ashamed to talk about how they buck the system daily and spend less time working then you could even fathom and still managed to collect overtime.
Lets see your math, Professor. Yeah, the money is in the budget but not allocated for the purpose of fixing what aint broke, that money is not budgeted to 'fix' perfectly good signs, its there to fix the ones that need to be fixed. learn to manage your own life before you worry about a big city, bumpkin.

Nice, except that these 'Sign Installers' don't exist, no new job creation here just the ability to get those lazy, $40 an hour maint workers off their asses to do some actual work, they are already on the payroll and NOW they will be making overtime to get this special project done. The Homeless dont have homes TODAY, the needy dont have clothes TODAY. Creating some 'special project' to save budget funding for next year is wasteful.
