I happen to read Wikipedia on a regular basis and find its articles to be quite informative.
If by ironic you mean the U.S. government preventing Google and others from doing business based on nations with "repressive human rights" whiling spying on civilians on the basis that "they could ALL be TERRISTS"...then yes, very ironic.

Yes, 7-zip's are nice though not very well adopted (at least as of yet). I have yet to see something distributed in the 7z format. The program does however do an impressive job even compressing in the normal zip format.

Autoplay can be disabled with TweakUI. There's no need to mess with the ugly muddle known as the registry.

3Delight is also a RenderMan(tm) compliant renderer. I cannot recommend it at this time though as I haven't done any testing with it.
