I work with data, lot's of it and use a workstation to test concepts prior to using server resources. There is a marked difference between CPUs from 4 or 5 years ago to today. It's not just the CPU and it's cache, you have to consider the disk subsystem, RAM and PCI bus. If you'd not pushing limits on your hardware then yes a old PC will do the job. Can't believe you've been modded up for ignorance.
Bollocks, slow drivers and lane changing that forcing motorists to slow down impede traffic flow. Ticketing minor speeding is nothing more than revenue raising.
I should add that the second type of anti-Green includes religious organisations, religious people tend to dislike the Greens, mainly because of money, ie the Greens generally are not in favour of giving tax concessions or funds to organisations who want to use that money to promote belief in sky fairies. Religious types also resent that fact the green parties tend to be hostile to religious rules being forced on society.
You're being too generous. The people who bucket the Greens come in three flavours. Those who genuinely understand and know what the Greens are about and disagree, they can be identified by having reasoned arguments and use evidence to push their point, this type is rare in public discourse. The second type don't like the Greens because they are threatened by them, but can't use evidence or reasoned arguments because they know if the facts are laid bare, the public will not agree. This second type is identified by their use of emotive language, deception and fanatical hostility. Fox News (or any Murdoch run media) and large corporations are prime examples. The third and most common are identified by their emotive parroting of the position of the second type, they also lack the resources of the second type. The third type are media consumers, you can see them on this page.
So even if you do have a Greens in government, there will be corporate interests gunning for them, and there will always be plenty of ignorant consumers who will parrot the corporate line.
The lawyers do use physical intimidation, if you don't act as directed by a court the Police will physically take action. The Law is the ultimate form of physical intimidation.
But the future doesn't look so bright. Opinion polling has the conservatives set to gain government at the next election. Australian mainstream media is on the whole very conservative so the information that gets to the general public is very thin and distorted. One of the highest priorities for the conservatives is trashing the NBN. Labor can't be trusted with censorship, however the conservatives are far worse, with at track record of always siding with their friends in the secret services. The Intelligence services and law enforcement are all politically conservative and hostile to any non-conservative government, hence Labor is trying to be as conservative as possible. We've had a few victories; but prospects for winning the war are bleak.
Yes, PowerShell is very useful especially if you are managing a large environment, well worth the investment in learning. I forced myself to only use PowerShell for last six months and it is good. Some simple bash commands like ls work in PowerShell. Having said that I did install ActiveState Perl today because I missed Perl and someone gave me a screwed up data file that needed a good cleanup. Could have parsed it in PowerShell, but Perl is so easy...
Yes there are much bigger problems than silly variable names or values. At a large government funded Catholic hospital, I use to work for, we interviewed for a report monkey, an entry level position in the Data team. There was one female candidate who stood out, had the right skills, but more importantly the right aptitude and an easy going personality. After the final round interview one of the managers remarked that the candidate was good but the IT department doesn't hire females in tech roles, he then rabbited on about cultural fit and problems caused by thin skinned females. The other people on the panel agreed until I pointed out, that is illegal discrimination and secondly it was plain stupid, she was the best candidate and that's what I wanted on my team. She got the job and is doing well.
They will still ask for money, Churches are businesses and whilst you will not get ejected for not donating, if you go regularly, there will be pressure and expectation for you to hand over money.
Age has nothing to do with drive, stay eager and hungry for knowledge and you'll do fine. However, don't get ahead of yourself. The real test of good IT worker is knowing when you don't know something and being able to defer to people with more experience or knowledge. They could be younger or older. It appears that your co-workers are the 9-5 type, no drive to learn or improve. You will get these people everywhere and they have their place. If you have drive and aptitude, doing PC\user\helpdesk support will not hold your interest for long but someone has to do it. Often the 9-5'ers are more than happy to do the same thing over and over, day in and day out.

That is true for the home market, but not the corporate.
Power user, if you're happy with a four or five year old work station, you are not a power user.
Correct, I ditched my iPhone for an SII, they're very different beasts. Using an iPhone feels very dated.

... Christianity doesn't require you to pay money before they will reveal all of the church doctrines...
True, but once they suck you in all Christian organisations want your money and they want it tax free.

+1, IO doesn't have to be a bottleneck.
