  1. Re:Verizon on Cellphone Networks Survive Inauguration, Mostly · · Score: 1

The good news is in the case of T-Mobile we do not require you to sign a contract to make use of MyFaves. If you are using an unlocked phone that is not "supported" by T-Mobile the MyFaves client will not show up on the phone but you can go online to My.T-Mobile and set your MyFaves. The calls to and from those contacts will then be billed airtime free. They keep their network as open as possible to any unlocked GSM phone and will provide any help they can to setup unlocked phones.

Sure there are drawbacks to Steam but there are also positives to take into consideration. You don't have to keep track of disks or serial numbers. Once a game is activated to your steam account you have it. So if you get a new computer all you have to do is install steam and it will download all the games you own. This has been a really nice feature for me on a couple of occasions. Steam gets more stable and better all the time. Its worth taking a second look. And Portal & TF2 are well worth the price of Orange Box!

You might want to check your blade balance and tracking. Also try varying the head-speed on your heli. Also make sure you have a really sturdy mount for your camera that will not be disturbed by wind. I've done a lot of video from RC heli's with great success. The great part is that time spent getting your heli super smooth makes it fly better and last longer.

  5. No SD output. on Apple TV to be a Centrally Controlled P2P Network? · · Score: 4, Informative

The thing that KILLS the Apple TV for me is the lack of SD output. I don't have an HDTV right now and don't plan on getting one anytime soon. I'd love to buy this but its few features aren't enough to convince me to buy an expensive TV that I have no need for otherwise. It would have been really simple to add a composite or s-vid out. Sure it wouldn't look quite as nice but it would open up their potential customer base but a large amount.

"How about parents who want to teach their childred from birth that religion X is th eonly true way and that everyone else is a sinner and needs to be converted? What about parents who teach their children to be sexist? racist?"

Parents absolutely should have this right! I would never want the state to be able to tell me that I had to rise my child to believe in religion X Y & Z. Or even worse you start getting into the terrifying ground of the sate saying that all children must be taught a state approved religion.

When it comes to parents teaching children to be sexist, racist, etc. While it may seem morally wrong to society that is a right that parents should have. Its also something that is going to happen no matter what laws exist. Children are a product of their environment. Even if you had some hypothetical situation where a racist parent didn't teach their child to be a racist. If that parent is a racist the child will pick up on that and for a good portion of their life they will automatically assimilate those views.

The great part of our free society is when the child grows up they will be free to hear views that oppose those that they were raised hearing and will be free to change and form their own opinions. Then they can spread those views on to their children.

Government intervention into child rearing wouldn't just be a slippery slope...it would be an avalanche of epically disastrous proportions!

As shady as it may be, it is legal.

While I agree that there are flaws with the demographics I don't think that is what lead to the cancellation of Family Guy. (And a number of other cancellations of popular shows) Shows like that are cancelled due to the networks quest for the "next big show" Everyone wants to have the next Friends or similarly popular show. Due to this the networks will cancel good shows and put that money into a few new and probably crappy new shows in hopes that one of them will take off and be that next big thing. Family Guy came back because Fox failed miserably at finding that next big thing and fell back to a show that is a solid money show even if it isn't a huge cash cow.

  10. Re:FW 800 included on Apple Unveils 24" iMac · · Score: 3, Interesting

I think they put it in there to try and get some sales in the lower budget pro/home video editing market. With HD video becoming so common place in the pro and consumer markets FW800 drives become necessary. You can barely get one stream of HD video off of a FW400 drive in real time. When you start editing and have clips overlapping the speed of an 800 drive is a life saver. The 24" iMac would make a great edit system for someone on a budget and with FW800 the limited storage of an AIO unit is no longer an issue. Also you don't get near the issues capturing when you capture over 400 and your disks are on 800. With them both on 400 its not uncommon to have dropped frames during capture on the FW400 only iMacs.

  11. Where I live they do nothing. on What Do Geek Squad Technicians Actually Do? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I recently had a fix a laptop for a friend that had initially taken it to Best Buy for the Geek Squad to fix. The problem was simply the center pin on the power connecter had broken off and fell into the laptop. After waiting two weeks she got the laptop back and was told it couldn't be fixed. When she told me that I told her no problem just give it to me I'll have it fixed tomorrow.

After opening the laptop I was not surprised to find they had never opened it. This was obvious since all the screws were still secured with their factor thread lock. Also the pin that broke loose was still inside the laptop! 5 minutes worth of soldering and a few screws being put back and the laptop was a good as new.

This is a repair that in my opinion ANY repair service should be able to repair. But since they seem to only hire mouth breathers Best Buy just took her money and when the Idiot Squad couldn't fix it they tried to sell her a new laptop.

I would never shop there based on past customer service (or lack there of) but now they lost of few more customers due to their money grab "repair service"
