    GM has been notorious for decades for not having very many different keys. In the 1970's, my dad managed to amass a collection of a dozen or so keys for various GM cars. If someone locked her keys in the car, he had ~85% chance of opening the door.

    No, not planned obsolescence. OP bought a Umax (or was it one of the others) Mac clone. Apple got a pittance from his purchase, and he expects support from them in perpetuity.

    I liked Summer Glau's portrayal of a sensitive damaged girl with subconsciously trained fighting or psychic abilities that would kick in at random times. I also liked Sarah Conner Chronicles because I liked watching her as a terminator.

    No more shovelware. No more locked down shit. No more proprietary music/video sources.

    The irony is that they replaced it with their own brand of lockdowns. While I generally prefer the hiding of the file-system from the user, I can't stress enough what a PITA it is to get files from and to iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch.

    In addition, iTunes is the shovelware locked down shit that comes with owning an iThingy....

    YMMV. Ran it just fine for years on Windows XP, and have ran it fine for years on various versions of OSX.

    And at the end of the day, I've been MUCH happier with Apple's 'lockdowns' than with those of Verizon.

    He didn't say 'lost', he says 'trapped'. I understand that your Class A license gives you certain 'leet skills, but apparently, reading comprehension is not among them. What he means is perhaps he had to spend a few days/weeks/months somewhere in OR that lacked even a 2G signal.

    Further, if you've actually used that atlas, you know that there are plenty of small roads that aren't covered by it. Roads that are... wait for it... too small for commercial vehicles.

    I am an Apple fanboi, and I just gotta say you aren't quite accurate. Blackberry and some versions of WinMo had app stores prior to Apple's. OP was correct that Apple didn't do anything totally new, it did everything 'better'. And by 'better', I mean for most normal human beings, not slashdot troglodytes.

    One thing Apple did with the iPhone that my brother often mentions, but never comes up here: broke the backs of the carriers. No more shovelware. No more locked down shit. No more proprietary music/video sources.

    That is an interesting claim, but what facts do you base it on, trollface?

    Because you most likely paid an early disconnect fee to get a different phone than your iPhone 4? It's not proof, but it's certainly a thumb on the scale.

    Yeah. I can't see the appeal in a product you can take anywhere, use for 10 hours, and provides quick and ready access to the internet and multimedia resources, and has a powerful enough processor to play many kinds of games

    If that were the appeal, don't you think the vastly more powerful Android devices, that support Flash, have more appropriate screens for multimedia, have better storage, and much more powerful CPUs, and are lower cost to boot, would be kicking the iPad's ass?

    Because none of those make the device do more or do it easier. You are not the market. The vast majority of people have different needs in a computer than you do.

    And those tablets end up going into a drawer after a few weeks and that's it.
