But most phone companies see SMS as a threat: when people send SMS, they don't phone. And that's the attitude France Telecom (owner of Orange) always had. It's the only phone company that charges for SMS sent from the web in France (SFR is 100% free, Bouygues requires free registration). They're the reason why SMS is so week in France.

    well..
firstly, what they say about language and confusion is perfectly valid. I'm French, Vivendi is French as well, and i can tell you that about 40% of the French people surfing regularily on the net don't know what "sucks" mean. So, yes, it is misleading. I don't like WIPO a lot, but, from their point of view, it's understandable.
secondly www.vivendiuniversalsucks.com currently sucks itself. it is redirecting to a geektivism almost empty web page. if you want to prove efficiently that VU sucks (and it sucks), do it in a more efficient way, and never mind of the name it has, it will work. in France, we have associations and/or websites tending to prove that cable or ADSL companies suck, and their name isn't as silly as for instance _cable_company_pue.com (pue=stinks)

anyway, the problem looks more like "what will be inside", and "how will this be used". for now, the site is empty and useless (like many sucks.com sites, including linuxsucks.com that looks like a MS site: good looking, but empty of anything smart.). moreover, the name itself doesn't matter that much. try to find a way to gather all the clever things against VU (and there are lots of), make a great site from that, find a clever name (not just by lazily adding sucks.com). then, if the WIPO or anyone comes out against you, i'll agree that it is scandalous.

so that means you have to hand compile everything if you want your server to be a bit secure.

actually, planes are designed to crash....

this is the main difference between Boeing and Airbus as for the conception:
On Boeing planes, the engine is kept very hard tightened to the wing, and is expected to behave as a "cushion" when the plane crashes
On Airbus planes, the engine is expected to detach from the wing when the plane crashes, to avoid that the wing breaks and goes into fire.
That said, you can guess that the link between wing and engine is checked very often and very carefully on every plane...

Now we should wait for the explanation of what really happened, because for now, there is no satisfactory plain and certain explanation.
Everything is possible, but we have to be sure (as for birds, engines are designed as well not to go into fire when a bird goes thru it.. now, for 3 or 4 birds at the same time, or a big bird, it's another story)

the only thing you can't disable is the KParts/DCOP underlying system (well.. i think you can't). but i thought the aim of Linux on Desktop (which is the purpose of KDE), was to provide a component model implementation in order to allow high level interaction between applications (which is all the GNOME/KDE/GNUStep-WindowMaker projects do... using different languages, APIs, and having different set of features).
sure, if you want less features and les memory usage, you can stick to old and light AfterStep or FVWM (though IceWM and others appear to be better)
as for the binary size for KDE or problems of slow launching or whatever, one of the biggest problems of QT/KDE for the time being is that they are written in C++, and gcc is far from good at compiling C++ (which gave all the fuss about 2.96 and 3.x versions). usually distros don't even build kde using objprelink. wait a bit that all those things improve (and they are close to), and i think u'll see a great improvment in KDE performances.
