Judging from the comments so far it seems that people expect all of the news on slashdot to be making some sort of a statement, like "geez, those crazy Chinese and their internet censorship".
But So what! to parent's "So what!". I dont see why every slashdot story has to be taken as some sort of statement. why dont you just read it for what it is -- a bit of news which doesn't really mean anything.
Of course you probably want some text/fonts too. The easiest way is to use a texture font (eg an image with all the characters on it), but I found that using freetype2 was also pretty easy and the results are fantastic (blended true-type fonts, mmmmm).
I think the freetype2 dist has an example openGL application in it, otherwise I'm sure something is available via google.
From the first line on the GLUI page: "GLUI is a GLUT-based C++...":)
I didn't like any of the openGL GUI packages out there so I made my own. It really isn't difficult to draw your own textured QUADs etc over the top of the scene. You can push/pop the attributes as well as the projection matrix, so you can make sure lighting etc is turned off when you draw the gui... RTFM;)
And what makes you trust the research of, say, Encyclopedia Britannica?
Back when I used to use encyclopedias on CD-ROM, often the topics I wanted to find out about had nothing, or maybe just a single paragraph.
With Wikipedia, if that was the case, after I had found some other resources, I could share my new found knowledge with the rest of humanity by submitting it to Wikipedia.
If you have a million or two dollars worth of IP in your account, with no backups, then you deserve to lose it.
If you are the sort of person with a million or two dollars worth of IP in your account, then what are you doing pirating software? Or is it Valve's IP?;)
Of course a PNG can be indexed (eg 256 colours like GIF), or it can be true colour. Having it indexed on a 16x16 image is probably a good idea, as that will probably have a huge impact on size.
Switching licenses would probably be the most painful thing to organise.
Firstly, everyone who has contributed code to the kernel would have to give permission for the license to be changed, or have to re-submit their code.
No, it is nowhere near as easy as saying "lets change the license".
Secondly, the Linux kernel has got some pretty darn cool code it in now. The GPL ensures that companies cannot take that code and do anything they like with it without releasing their modifications, eg Microsoft + BSD Networking code.
My thesis (which I am only just starting) deals with networking, and one major part of it is in simulating different network conditions.
I was planning to write my own wrapper around the standard socket operations which will add things like latency, unreliability etc etc (for testing the robustness of a protocol).
However I am looking forward to seeing some of the answers here as maybe I wont have to do as much work as I previously thought;)
One of the best things about the original X-Wing (DOS) game, was the mission editor I downloaded.
I spent months creating and playing my own custom missions, and I think this was probably the start of my desire to customise everything which evolved into a love for hacking.

What, pray tell, is an Astonaut?

Ermmm yeah. What part of "freely available" means available only in MSIE?
The (Developers! Developers!) reference is about the Steve Ballmer Monkey Boy Dance.
It uses OpenGL in windows.
OpenGL and DirectX aren't equivalent anyway, you must be thinking of Direct3D, which is the graphics library.
Nice work on the repost...

Sounds too much like gonad.
Where did they come up with the name?
will this effect Jabber's overall share of the IM market?
Dunno... Might affect it though.

Why not use Firefox for browsing and Mozilla for mail only, if you do not like thunderbird (no idea what you are complaining about though).
Errr... Done.
Next?

Yeah, but you can yell at humans.
Anyone else notice the 2002 date on the image?

I was going to make a case for the Goodwill Games, but I then noticed two things:
1) They no longer exist.
2) I noticed a small line of text at the bottom of the logo: An AOL Time Warner Company.
I can't say that I understand that at all.
fag
Why not set up a VPN and tunnel Samba through that? That should take care of your fear of insecurity with SMB. Piss easy + secure.
Not sure what software is available for windows, but there is FreeS/WAN for Linux.

I thought Gates lost the title of 'World's Richest Man'
The Department of Commerce?? Gotta get the kids into capitalism early I guess...
