I'd put money on it that "she" is actually a lonely, unwashed, 400lb shut-in 37 year old nerdy bloke with a massive inferiority complex which causes him to pretend to be female to get attention on/..
Yeah, sure. The really really nice thing about GSM in Europe? "It just works... Everywhere". Can that be said about *any* of the mobile networks in the US?
I'm all for open competition. As long as my phone continues to work *everywhere*.
The politicians don't/can't/won't understand the stats.
The result is that we now have thousands of Gatsos all over the place to stop *speeding* because the politicians think speed related accidents are actually *speeding* related accidents. The problem is that it turns out that while speed is a significant contributer to accidents and deaths, *speeding* isn't.
I mean, it's a 400kW vehicle. Why electric? 400kW is 400kW whether it's petrol or batteries. You still have to generate and store the energy so you're still throwing similar amounts of C02 into the atmosphere when you use it.
So, at 400kW, I don't see the point of the thing. BioDiesel or methanol fuel cell based, I could see the point of.
Example. If the limit is 40mph, it's pissing with rain, fog, ice and someone crashes while doing 25mph where the conditions would realistically determine 10mph or 15mph, it is still marked as a speed related incident, despite the fact that the limit for the stretch of road is 40mph.
I use a vehicle on a day to day basis that's capable of 0-60 in under 4 seconds. It can accelerate terrifyingly quickly, It's far far faster than a BMW M3, but I've been completely unable to kill a dozen people so far.
No need to project your own limitations on to other people.
Hmm. Who is that specs and purchases Sun hardware? It's the sysadmins. Ya gotta laugh, it's a good message to send. Buy our systems and we'll make you redundant.
Anyway. Any decent admin sets up management systems, file distributions, cfengine policy managment etc to remove the mundane management load. You become a system architect rather than a systems administrator.
In a car, changing gear and power delivery mid-corner isn't a problem, the car won't fall over or change line.
A bike, however needs completely predictable power delivery, if you change the power delivery on a bike mid-corner the line you're taking changes, you run wide or you fall into the corner. The rear tyre can also spin up. It's one of the reasons the new Honda VFR800 with VTEC is not doing so well (It's also as ugly as sin). The VTEC kicks in at around 7,000rpm and starts delivering more power.
A Diesel smart car can do 68mpg(US) which is around 86mpg(UK) IIRC. Top speed of 86mph, group 2 insurance and a doddle to park.
Ideal for running around town.
They won't be officially released in the US till 2004, but there are importers already planning to ship them. The cars themselves have been around for a few years in Europe and they are all over the place. Daimler are planning a Diesel/electric hybrid version of the car.
It increases the level of background noise, everything has to shout louder to be heard. 802.11b is simply the 1st of many faster wireless protocols and was only used as an example.
Bluetooth already removes most of the cables from my kit.
I ask again, what does UWB give me 4 years from now that I don't already have?
I mean, really? What does it give me in 4 years that I don't already have? Can I connect my keyboard and mouse at gigabit speeds? Better brush up on my typing then.
Bluetooth gives me fast enough connections for keyboard, mouse, data to my pda, GPRS phone. I can use wireless networking 802.11b and better for higher bandwidth and slightly longer distance connections.
All this and it doesn't pollute the background noise level the way UWB does.
I think Intel are just royally pissed that they didn't think of Bluetooth and are now trying to rain on the parade.
A place where bands can sign up, create their own web site (band.label.com) which includes a shopping cart for their CDs, free lowish bitrate MP3s and say $0.50 for high bitrate MP3s.
The band could upload WAVs of their tracks and the label could burn CDs and print cover art as they are ordered.
Label takes a percentage of any sales for hosting and CD production. The band gets the rest.
WTF makes you think any pictures are of her?

Let them know that their conduct is unacceptable.
Buy from some company who are trying to produce products which will reduce your costs.
The Kyocera ecosys printers spring to mind.

Hmm, I wonder if that's cos he's blind?
So, I don't think I'll bother. Ta.

Both are or can be made in a renewable fashion.
There's no net pollution. CO2 produced by burning the fuel is taken up by the plants producing the oil or the mechanism creating the methanol.

Sure, it's off topic, but I have karma to burn.

HTH
They wait for someone else to show the way, follow for a bit and then use all their might to swallow their competitors.
They don't have to waste money and time on researching new concepts and ideas, their competitors do it for them.
We manage about 120 machines, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, AIX, M88K, a real mishmash. 2 guys. Cfengine, rsync, postgresql, NIS[1], ssh. It isn't difficult.
[1] Yeah, i'd like to use something else, but it works with everything.

Their forte is embedded systems. They're really getting dragged kicking and screaming into the desktop market.
Is the schedule service that Tivo provides.
A PC or PS2 which can record TV for me is no more use to me than a VCR.

It's a good way of getting rid 90% of the mindless drivel that floods through the hundreds of channels.
Motorola do a system called Canopy which is designed as a last mile solver. It's expensive, but is already fully ruggedised for outdoor use.
That's just about what I was looking for.
Streaming low bitrate rather than downloads and the artists website doesn't have a simple URL, but otherwise spot on.
