Most of your objections is about current implementations of electric car. The fragility of frame isn't really dependant on being electric car. Besides atleast certain far eastern SUV got 0 "survivors" out of standard 5 crash tests so there is no such thing as safe car really.
First thing I'd do is BAN on sales of new SUVs and give relatively large GAS tax, inorder to get rid of them from the traffic. Remember I'm saying that society needs to transform to electric cars not one individual.
The battery technology is improving... And there are better alternatives coming all the time. Actually with best battery technology available right now would get 2 miles per kg of battery, and works between -55 and 100C and has 15 to 20 years lifetime. So technologically you could get 800 miles range, but cost would be prohibitive until full scale mass production starts. Rember the engines, the tank, the fuel, transmission, all are replaced by battery and small electrical engines. I think its better to each wheel having separate engine to run it inorder to minimize mechanical losses. And having small 200hp electric engines per wheel saves weight over normal gasoline engine.
The engine technology is pretty good already. Fast electric car gets from 0 to 60Mph in 4 seconds, and is trying to break the speed record of gasoline powered car. Also the slowing down and increasing speed isn't such a problem for electric car as the engines work as generators also, the same thing that makes hybrids so efficient work with pure electric vehicles too.
The charging time is limited primarily by the capacity of the grid connection. Normal household connection inside US is 1.5Kw while in 240v its 3Kw.
Litres per 100km Urban extra urban Prius 5 4.2 Hybrid Yaris 5.9 4.0 Small Diesel car VWPolo 5.6 4.0 Small Diesel car VWTouran 7.5 5.3 Large Diesel car for upto 7 passangers. VWToureg 20.3 11.1 Gasoline SUV VWToureg 17.9 9.8 Diesel SUV.
Final point, european diesel fuel is better than american diesel fuel due to higher standards. So for americans the hybrid is better option than for europeans.
I'm just curious how that compares to more efficient diesel engines... As we are seeing diesels with pretty close to hybrid efficiencies..

I think that if Prius CO2 emissions for lifetime the cross over between standard car is 20Mm driven. The comparison with VWPolo diesel the Prius never overtakes it. The Touran is for comparison purposes an efficient diesel car which handles most reasons for getting a big car, except fear for heavier cars, and offroad performance...
The electricity tranportation is over 98% efficient. The electrical engines are over 90% efficient, and can be done without gearbox and regenerate at braking. And the batteries have upto 95% efficiency.
So with fossile fuel plants that are in range of 600MW can get efficiency of 60% . There is big difference here. So its basicly that small scale method of turning fossile fuel to movement is so inefficient. And turning electricity to movement is so effient that its really noise compared to turning fuel to movement.
We should also consider the efficiency of transporting fossile fuel from oilfields to gas stations too compared to transporting fuel to a power plants, I think the difference there counter acts what ever is lots in transmission lines.
In overall we could assume that well designed electrical car with good electrical powerplant gets over 50% overall efficiency compared to gas engines 15%.
Also by having separated the energy generation from highly efficient energy usage the choice energy source can be changed more freely from fossile fuel to fissile fuel or something else entirely. So the choice of going for electrical cars at society level would be great in terms of efficiency.
Perhaps as simple as mandating each gas station to have electric outlet with restrictions on premium the gas station owners can take from electricity. The chicken/egg problem would be solved and the electric cars could become slowly more common. But personally I feel that without way to fill the batteries when needed I'll probably buy diesel car next. Either one of those small ones that get 50 miles per gallon or one that can transport 7 persons with 40 miles per gallon.
I think the mandatory chip identification of immigrants could be passed for security reasons. Convicts would be another easy target, but gives image for the tags that should be avoided in order for full rollout. Some goverment employment positions could require the tags to be inserted, or being goverment subcontractor for certain facilities. Slow rollout there. Then at some point the access to SCHOOLS could be limited to those who have RFID chip. Just wait until there is such shooting in schools that extra security measures for schools are acceptable. 20 years after school identification, make it mandatory to everyone as almost everyone under 38 has one, and some portion of older generation has also. Or simply make the ID chip function as a identification for payment purposes too, and get rid of cash.

Actually there is lots of extra speudo production in capitalism which do not produce anything tanglible and is only working as a distribution of wealth. Lots of Banking, stock trading, the manipulation of books, lawyers...
They could actually do some real production or research, instead of creating speudo economic value. So basicly your example sucks. Also communism doesn't necessary dictate everyone gets exacly same salary. It could have some sort of meritocracy deciding the compensation.
I'm merely objecting your bad example, not capitalism. As communism has other reasons why it won't work. Worst are human characteristics, like laziness etc...
You are forgetting some rules of business. Who controls the distribution controls the market. When anyone can copy you freely they will if there is anyprofit to be made.
And yes, his scenario is what I say would happen most likely. The record companies would adapt, they would loose a lot, but so would the artist.
I'd say 25 years copyright, with extended consumer rights would be just fine. The extended consumer rights would clearly mandate that consumer has rights to make backup copies and a copy it for personal viewing purposes, and no DRM would be allowed to circuimvent those rights. As the product is not media the consumer must have access to the product in no connection to media.
I'd also require movie companies to offer atleast standard DVD quality download or disc at maximum price of 5$ to consumers at the time of DVD release. The standard would define what would be minimum features for consumers. There maybe more expensive gold editions with extras, etc... But actually movie would be guaranteed to be cheaply available, in the quality that is normal in todays DVDs.
Sorry for under estimating. 3200 Pixels per Inch. With 4 inch times 5 inch image. Its 16585 x 13065 . A3= 11x17 Its 35200x54400 resolution;) Thats 7GB for SINGLE image in uncompressed form;)

You know those backup versions and test versions to test which tricks worked bests, and potential to continue from any of the images to forward. So there is potential of using 40GB for editing a SINGLE image.

Germany had superiour animal rights in 1933-1944. All cruel experiments on animals where explicitely forbidden and if the leadership of the country would of had enough time they would of also forbidden the use of animals as a food. Their leader was a great animal rights activist who made great advances in animal rights that such a barbaric country as United States has not yet given to its animals. Here's a nice quote from his animal rights campain. Written by one of his subordinates.
Quote:
The famous national socialist Graf E. Reventkow published in the Reichswart, the official publication of the "union of patriotic Europeans", the lead article "Protection and Rights {Recht} for the Animal". National Socialism, he writes, has for the first time in Germany begun to show Germans the importance of the individual's {italics} duty toward the animal {end italics}. Most Germans have been raised with the attitude that animals are created by God for the use and benefit of man. The church gets this idea from the Jewish tradition. We have met with not a few clerics who defend this position with utmost steadfastness and vigor, yes one could say almost brutally. Usually they defend their position with the unstated intent of deepening and widening the chasm between man who has soul and soulless (how do they know that?) animals...
The friend of animals knows to what inexpressible extent the mutual understanding between man and animal and feelings of togetherness can be developed, and there are many friends of animals in Germany, and also many who cannot accept animal torture out of simple humanitarian reasons. In general however, we still find ourselves in a desert of unfeeling and brutality as well as sadism. There is much to be done and we would first like to address vivisection, for which the words "cultural shame" do not even come close; in fact it must be viewed as a criminal activity.
Buddha, the Great loving spirit of the East, says: "He who is kind-hearted to animals, heaven will protect!" May this blessing fulfill the leaders of the New Germany, who have done great things for animals, until the end. May the blessing hand of fate protect these bringers of a New Spirit, until their godgiven earthly mission is fulfilled!
Firstly I'd like to point out one thing. It looks like in this forum atheists are majority they moderate up the atheist comments and moderate down the other comments, so in this kind of discussion most people see only one point of view not the other.
Islam is not just a religion, Islam is a political system and state. They mandate the killings, as a way to spread their way of living and their law, and getting rid of elements they considered evil or bad for their state. Same way communism promoted revolutions and killings, they promoted it because it was part of THEIR ideology of state without elements they considered bad.. The nazis, well they where secular party which hunted down the priests and jews. They killed because their ideology of master RACE, and slaughtered all the elements they considered bad. The christians in the middle ages, killed because of the religion, mostly because no-one except priesthood actually knew what the bible said and priest hood was mostly interested in keeping their own power and control and luxurious living style. A lot of those killings where just a mere imperialism to gain more resources and areas and to control the people, and pretty much people just framed a acceptable cause for their own secular quest for power and wealth.
So here we are in the conclusion, nearly all genocides, are struggle to create some ideological state or spreading their own state to new lands. The ideology could be created to accept these slaughters. The ideological state can have some religion, atheistic or what ever ideology that allows the killings. As atheism doesn't in itself say wheather you could kill someone or not, its quite good template for creation such ideology. Islam by definition means war. Christian well, the new testament is pretty clearly against those slaughters, but with enough illiteracy there is way for creating slaughtering ideology on top of that which happened in middle ages. In imperialism period it was just a pretext that justified actions. But more than often that was just a Kings secular decision machine that did killings and peoples personal lusts, they just needed some pretext to make it acceptable, and wrote one completely discarding what ever christianity said but using the language to make it acceptable.
With the exception of Islam, the religion or atheism do not automaticly mandate those killings, nor support them directly. Its the Ideology that is build in top of one that gives reasons for the slaughters, or just plain imperialism and quest for wealth.
As for saying I hate what Islamists have done. Christians are their main victims since atheists chooce between conversion and death differently. Also Islam is a system that is designed to grow and spread and its pretty much clear that unless something radical comes over half the worlds population will be Islamic in few decades.
Now the atheists, in the west are not the communists in the east, nor the Islam is Christianity. Nor christianity before Luther is same as it is today.
99% of people are idiots, not as in technical term but as a subjective evaluation of their intelligence.
Now here's interesting part. Three most intelligent hackers I've met in Finland also are religious fanatics. And I've met plenty of hackers. These guys are strange, but they don't lack any intelligence.
These kind of guys write raytracers in scheme, as a minor project. For the first programming course. These kind of guys, got to top 5% in mathematics and 3 languages in examination for all high schoolers. [The math is divided to higher and lower math so they are 2% in all mathematics, if assuming all those who chooce lower maths are weaker there than them, the top grade is top 5% of people getting to exam for the year.] The kind of guys have programmed assembler with hex editor some time. Their mathematical and programming abilities are probably would be in top 1% of slashdot population. The kind of guys do at the first seasons 4 months in university 1/3rd of the curriculum studies while being employed 20hours/week, and taking responcibilities in church, then slow down simply because they want to enjoy their student life since being enrolled is free here... Oh don't say that courses are too easy, and only idiots couldn't get lots of them done that quickly. As Linus Torvalds was one of those, slow ones here...
Here's interesting point, there is far more people in United States, so the bigger area doesn't matter. Its only slowing down slightly if the telecom needs to grow inorder to afford putting those base stations everywhere. In Finland its more probably that the original companies had to compete with coverage and put pretty complete coverage to get as much customers as possible.
I know some people who chooce their operators based on coverage on the areas where they go hunting. Then there is incentive for people choocing based on what operator their friends use. Now both of those made it clear that there is real competitive advantage of having complete coverage when other don't have. If calling to other operators cellphones is 33% more expensive, and ONE in a group of friends had a place where he couldn't use mobile phone then in many cases other went to same operator.
Oh. You where tied to operator after purchasing a phone so that you couldn't change operator as soon as you found out that in some important place there wasn't coverage for your operator. Too bad for you. For us, it worked perfectly. If one operator had worse coverage around where I live I could change operator anytime.
Here's a good one. Man pages are about worst thing about usability. First you need to know NAME of utility you want to use for given task and 2ndly you need to know that there is such utility called man and you can use that to get information of things.
To be fair, I would of switched back to Windows if I wouldn't of gotten help from a friend that installed it for me. It takes weeks or months before newbie could handle lots of issues related to linux so that they could understand what the TFM says. Learn lots of small things. There is just too much to learn in first few weeks so that it takes time to absorb. After few months there where things I could tinker my self and things that I couldn't do. After I learned lots of small things, and got answers to my questions. I begun finding the answers my self, and understanding what the answers said. But most importantly I was Linux user and got my time to learn how things work.
I don't think this is because there wasn't a government mandate to use GSM or another standardized technology. One thing a lot of people forget when trying to compare Europe to the US is population density and size. Europe is much more centered around it's cities (which is part of the reason why they have much better public transit). Whereas in the US, we tend to spread out (the majority still being in cities, but there is a lot of the population who live very far away from cities).
GSM is a great technology for covering cities and dense populations, it is not a good technology for covering the expansive parts of America.
Only problem for that is that America is densely populated compared to Finland. And even the areas which have population density of Alaska have GSM network here. Size of network is smaller, but its everywhere. The GSM works 35km away from base station. I calculated that it takes 477 base stations to fill entire alaska with GSM network... This excludes the need for extra base stations for densely populated areas.
There is big virus taking rest of the ram. Please back up your data and format your hard-drive and then install operating system there. After that copy the data from backups to/home/acoward/Desktop/OldFiles/ .
He was simply exaggerating. The truth is simple. Ati probably uses lisenced technology in HARDWARE that has tradesecret agreaments. While nVidia uses similar lisences atleast in software. Now, the answer isn't that they take the lisenced technology out of their products, as it would hurt their competitivity in windows which is bigger market. So basicly all you could get is 2D or very rudimentary 3D from opensource drivers.
Should Nvidia start writing opensource drivers from cratch, and get 7900GX to performance level of 6600 with fully opensource drivers... They simply cannot release what they have now, as they don't own all the rights to do so. Another point is they don't want to open their algorithms for other graphics chip manufacturers. Nor they could use algorithms lisenced from 3rd parties in opensource drivers. It would simply suck. You could check it for bugs but most likely it would simply suck. They MIGHT do it since they recently purchased atleast one of their IP providers. Now if nVidia purchases the parties that lisenced their technology to nVidia then nVidia would only have the competitive reasons for not opensourcing while no legal reason for not to opensource.
Oh. And with opensource drivers, nVidia better not use any algorithm patented by IP leaches... As any patent holder could start looking if the nVidia drivers have their patented algorithm far more easily than trying to disassemble the driver to find it...
I think this have proven true in the past but is not guaranteed as a fact- It may be possible that no matter how ingenious humans are, there is simply no reasonable alternative for a portable fuel source (i.e. usable in vehicles) that can entirely replace the demand for gasoline, even at a higher price...
Lets first talk about the original needs. In dense cities there is no point of driving cars instead of having public transports, and electric vans for moving stuff around. What about country side? The real question isn't about delivering electricity since its delivered pretty much everywhere, the real problem now is getting the electricity to car, which shouldn't be a problem actually. Its quite simple automate. However making the transition is problem since its chicken and egg problem.
The supply/demand model always assumes that there is another supply "out there somewhere" just waiting to be tapped at a higher price- We have never had a case of a critical global, unreplaceable resource that simply becomes unsuppliable- That is the REAL danger of the peak oil crisis.
There is plenty of uranium. With breeder reactors and fuel reprocessing we can use over 99% of uranium that gets wasted by not using breeders and recycling fuel. Also uranium is common enough in earth crust. Actually there is over 10^13 tons of uranium in the top 10km of the crust. While nuclear power generation would consume it under ton per year, with FULL reprocessing/and breeders for a 1000MW plant. That gives us 8Billion kWh per ton of uranium. Current world electric production from fossilfuels is handled with 1000times that. If we would replace gasoline with nuclear produced electricity,
The amount needed would increase by 10% . Then we could assume that worlds energy consumption could increase by 890% with improving livingstandards in thirdworld countries over next centuries. Then its 10^5 tons per year. With 10^13 tons of uranium would end in 10^7 years. And by then we probably would have perfected fusion for which we have huge reserves in our oceans,or could import the uranium from asteroids if fusion power is still 50 year in the future;)
So yes, there exists uranium. But people mine it from the most economical places right now, and mining companies aren't even active in looking for additional uranium reserves since they already have enough reserves for their perspective of long time.
As for the rest of your post, I'd rather not trust the security of a server to sudo, firstly because it had security issues in the past, and secondly because it's not a trivial task to decide which commands a user can and can not have access to.
rm -rf /
bash -c select X in ls/* -A; do{ select Y in ls X; do 777 > Y;cd..};#My first shell script probably buggy but gives idea what it should do
vi -c #Too tired to do the damanging function but still it could be done.
rm, bash, emacs, vi, are out of limits expecially last 3 since those 3 can generate what ever sequenceas you could consider.
There are plenty of other programs that should be out of limits for normal users to get sudo.

[The math is divided to higher and lower math so they are 2% in all mathematics, if assuming all those who chooce lower maths are weaker there than them, the top grade is top 5% of people getting to exam for the year.]
The kind of guys have programmed assembler with hex editor some time.
Oh has Stalin risen from the dead?
What about merger of the Giver and the hole of Anonymous Coward?
After that copy the data from backups to /home/acoward/Desktop/OldFiles/ .
Then the problem is fixed.
Man rm:

If we would replace gasoline with nuclear produced electricity, The amount needed would increase by 10% . Then we could assume that worlds energy consumption could increase by 890% with improving livingstandards in thirdworld countries over next centuries. Then its 10^5 tons per year. With 10^13 tons of uranium would end in 10^7 years. And by then we probably would have perfected fusion for which we have huge reserves in our oceans ,or could import the uranium from asteroids if fusion power is still 50 year in the future ;)
So yes, there exists uranium. But people mine it from the most economical places right now, and mining companies aren't even active in looking for additional uranium reserves since they already have enough reserves for their perspective of long time.
rm -rf /
bash -c select X in ls /* -A; do{ select Y in ls X; do 777 > Y ;cd ..};#My first shell script probably buggy but gives idea what it should do
emacs -f (delete (recursivegeneratepathtoallfiles "/"))
vi -c #Too tired to do the damanging function but still it could be done.
rm, bash, emacs, vi, are out of limits expecially last 3 since those 3 can generate what ever sequenceas you could consider. There are plenty of other programs that should be out of limits for normal users to get sudo.
