You can't rationally argue a person out of a position that they didn't rationally get into.
I've learned this from being married. When somebody's ego is at risk being wrong it does not matter what they are arguing. They will more than likely NOT admit they are wrong.
It's better just to say "ok" and move on to something more important.
"Not quite sure how you see the FRS as 'private' - it's a national reserve bank established by legislation. It also, crucially for this discussion, is not responsible for issuing US dollars - that's the US Department of the Treasury."
No, it's not. The Federal Reserve Board in D.C. is a government agency, but the banks themselves are private entities sanctioned by the Federal Governments.
Employees of the Federal Reserve bank of Richmond for example are NOT government employees.
"This is utter crap. With very, very few exceptions, money has always been issued by government. Governments have always imposed currency by requiring that taxes are paid in using it. Governments have always set standards for the production of money. Governments have always punished those who attempt to interfere with money."
You mean like most of the 19th century where privately issued money was the norm in the U.S.?
They are not out of the woods, but things like price matching amazon have helped a lot. I've personally not bought from Best Buy in a long time, but recently after buying something on Amazon I checked how much it would of cost at Best Buy and realized for a little more I could of had it that day for about the same price.
As somebody who grew up in the early to mid 80's I was raised on the joystick. When the industry moved to gamepads I simply could not play as effectively anymore (and rarely play consoles as a result).
Wrist coordination and speed is fundamentally different from thumb coordination. I suppose many people are better at fine finger coordination then wrist, but for me the switch from wrist to thumb controllers ruined consoles for me.
Not to rain on anybody's parade, but will the commercial holders of ZFS allow this? Or will they unleash some unholy patent suit to keep it from happening?
This is all fine and good but what happens AFTER the Pandemic could be just as important.
After millions of people dying the social upheaval politically would be insane. The current order of things would be put on it's head, and what it settled out to be could be anybody's guess.
For example, assuming that most infections happened in cities that could dramatically change voting patterns.
Sigh..the government does VERY little. Corporations do things FOR the government with government oversight often by people who used to work in the same corporations they have oversight for.
Giving it to the "Government" to do is not taking corporations out of the picture.
It's like having the discussion concerning the "private" sector launching manned space vehicles...as if NASA did it without the private sector to begin with.
And there is the problem. How do you define the market for "UNIX". There is a decline, but it's in respect to a specific segment of the UNIX market, not the UNIX market as a whole.
If you factored in every Iphone and/or IOS device which you could easily categorize as a UNIX based system (since it's based on Mach and BSD right?) then the stats would be completely different.
Although personally against the idea, I've often wondered how our elections would turn out if everybody was required by law to vote. Would the current patterns be re-enforced? Or would a radically different political landscape come about?

On my lunch bag when I put it in the fridge at work I put
"Strontium-90 - RADIOACTIVE" on one side
The other I put
"LIVE SPECIMEN - BIOHAZZARD"
So if I live in flat Florida this bike would not be as effective?
Why use a Station Wagon? Why not a 747?
Sounds like (no pun intended) it would be a great place to practice insight meditation

If you detonate enough nukes in the stratosphere, that would create a big enough EMP to accomplish those ends.
Queue the people who will say "Bitcoin will never amount to anything"
Of course these are the same people who have said that every 6 months for years....
Probably somebody back in the Mid 90's?
did you ask if they would match the newegg price?
It's not dead yet.

Polaroid? Borders? That's old news.
I hate labels in general. When questioning most people you find they are far more complicated in their views than just "liberal" or "conservative".
Personally I'm tired of being stuffed in one box or the other.
You mean I'll not be able to buy any more beef tallow pudding? I eat that stuff by the spoonful!
wrong. I just went to the page and the checkbox was not checked by default. It's opt in.

"It makes Facebook at least three or four times more usable"
You know what makes Facebook more usable? Not using Facebook.
Yes, I just burned Karma.

I'd shoot myself if I had to forcibly read HS facebook posts all day...
Let's just say it's all true.
Then what? In order to have ANY appreciable effect GLOBAL GDP would have to be rolled back.
that simply aint going to happen.
