i did mention that there is a "world of difference" between consumer autos/devices and voyager.
One other point, the military constantly maintains the Jets, Ships, Vehicles, etc. Voyager doesn't get a lot of wrench time these days.
You are definitely correct. It is amazing to think that technology from 35 years ago is still operating and sending back data. We generally don't keep cars around for 35 years let alone computers, phones, or even kitchen appliances.
Now there is a world of difference between these things i mentioned and the tight tolerances that went into Voyager, but it still absolutely amazing what we as humans have accomplished.
Carl Sagan would have been excited with the current Mars Rover, along with all of the other projects that we have successfully launched, but I think he would be a bit saddened by the state of the manned programs.
But I really like linux.
there is just something about the warm cozy feeling you get when that terminal window opens up and you can customize anything, given enough time and knowledge. I like my windows PC's too and my Mac experiences have been mostly favorable (no darn right click...)
There is a community for each of these OS's but the linux community can actually steer the os in ways that most others cannot.
Again I like them all, but I love Linux.
Yes that was very poor proofreading on my part, and the editor missed it as well. Things happen we all make mistakes however I was not mistaken on the identity of the the two planets Kepler-47a and Kepler-47b.

I agree, the patent system is so broken it is only a new venue for attorneys to grow rich, while innovators and consumers suffer.
What is even more disturbing and wrong is the ability to patent life forms, or even genes. Centers performing cutting edge cancer research cannot always have access to genes or genomes they wish to study because they are simply unable to afford the price of admission (licensing).
It really is a sad state of affairs.
I refuse to stop using lame memes,
I just don't see the point in 2 factor authentication for a service wouldn't trust enough to store sensitive data on but at least they are trying i guess.
slow news day so far.
this is one of the few articles i've read where it sounds like someone actually understands a little bit about anonymous. Every time flocks news, or msnbc reported about some activity attributed to anonymous, they would talk about law enforcement going after anon's command and control, or leadership...not understanding that there is no leadership.
When a lot of strangers get together and are motivated to complete a goal, it can get done, and I believe that is the main point and I believe it was made.
this could see application on extreme close up technology similar to those found in videoscopes (like this http://www.rfsystemlab.us/vj-adv-4mm.html ) the wider the angle the greater the distortion. what is interesting is the method they used to create the lens effect. They coated the flat lens in concentric circles with slightly different coatings that would change the phase delay for each ring thus focusing the incoming light.
Very interesting technology.
i don't think an ion breeze would do much in the way of reaching the stars but you may be able to print one of those as well.

you missed my point, I was indicating that with this sort of technology and "authority" decisions could be taken away from the user/consumer. Not entice the consumer/user into a behavior but actually remove the decision.
Are we willing to give up more control to "Authorities" and who exactly should these authorities be. Should those with authority be able to execute such a kill switch without notice or should users/citizens have notice?
Thinking into the future, if i decided to go to a soft drink vending machine that is "smart" and i choose to purchase a sugar laden drink but my bmi is over a certain number should these authorities dispense a diet soft drink instead.
I don't believe we are quite in a big brother society (but approaching it) IMHO users should have the option to disable the "dummy switch" on their devices. For example: if a user has(or feels they have) the technical savvy to be able to take care of their computer or device they should be able to retain responsibility for their devices/computers without being required to give it up to an "authority".
Looking to a future where if you are 1 second late on your utility payment...oops you don't have that utility any more..
Mr. Armstrong you were not just an American hero or icon, you were our first off-world ambassador. I hope, as i am sure you did, that we can all work together to touch the stars and never stop exploring.
Rest easy as you took the first step we must take up the yoke and take the further steps on other unexplored places in this solar system and beyond.
There is a company who has engineered a form of algae that can produce diesel fuel http://www.jouleunlimited.com/. These technologies need investment and need to come to fruition quickly.
Well being able to keep up emergency services is definitely most important, i don't think we are getting the whole story since either something was added to create extra electrical draw or something is failing.
I wonder if that is the 2.1 million spoken of to add capacity...or repair.
If you lived in podunk nowhere then no probably not, if emergency services continue to operate it wouldn't be a big issue. But for such a large municipality to go dark for 5 days...would definitely be impactful locally and possibly regionally/nationally to a smaller degree.
Emergency services are very important but the business of government (no matter how i feel about it from time to time) needs to continue and serve it's people...I am sure (at least i hope) that they looked into portable power generation, but it seems that this is a poor solution.
just my 2 pennies.
Mars is a great Training mission, we really should have already been there, and although I am excited by the advances we've made we should be much further along.
Is Titan out of the question? well the Moon certainly was and yet we put several vehicles and men on the Moon. It may take us years to develop all of what is needed but it can be done and the only thing really holding us back is budgets. I am all for commercial space but I am more interested in properly funding NASA so the discoveries attained from the mission can be shared in the public domain.
NASA needs a bailout, the banking system received a bailout that would pay for NASA operations for decades.

you're thinking of Northern Labrador, we will still want places to ski! The Happy Valley - Goose Bay area will be the new Florida.
Start looking at northern land that can be purchased cheaply, soon it may be prime tropical real estate!

Who has the 3d models for an ion drive?

Banks got billions in bailout but apparently put none of it into security. Like the bailouts the Banks and politicians win and the consumers lose.

He was quite famous in his time, however he does not get credit for all of the tech he pioneered, he was a God among men!
If so, then Tesla would sneak in and tweak the food so that the food would make people skinnier

don't worry bro my wife was tarded now she's a pilot. brawndo! the thirst mutilator.

i am sure they have, and as an earlier post mentioned this is how the lawyers tend to win out in these situations.
