tl, i actually skimmed it a bit. the only thing I could grab on to is this:
If evolution be not true, the only explanation for the appearance of varied life on the planet is intelligent design.
This is a logical leap, and creates a flaw in the remainder of the post. If the only two choices are evolution or ID, then an argument against evolution is an argument for ID (which is what the rest of the words are about I think). but why can't there be other potential theories? I'm sure the world has thought of hundreds.
that's the way to go. I covered my laptop camera with a sticker. haven't had the balls to do the mike yet. it's a very convoluted process on a macbook.
"more secure" != secure. I'm sure a lot of the backbone goodness is on linux servers, and it's like swiss cheese to them. at least you feel more secure.
but the subset of crashes in question are those in which planes fall out of the sky. You know, from 30,000ft. Into the ocean. can you google survival statistics for those?
listen up. there's no doubt that this plane will be found. unknown when, but it will be found and the black boxes recovered and we will learn all sorts of best practices. This whole conversation is about spending money to find planes faster than we currently do. which is a waste of money.
yesterday I was in a meeting at work and my iPhone made a horrible loud screech. i silenced it immediately and didn't look at it until after the meeting. it was an amber alert for a city 50 mi away.
we're missing the obvious solution to the communication problem. why not make it illegal for planes to fly over water? then they'll always be in contact with land. sometimes the problem is right in front of you!
Most people involved in an airplane crash survive the accident.
are you high? did you just drink some sizzurp? why would you think that most people in an airplane crash survive the accident? Note that the only planes that could benefit from this locator are planes that disappear in mid-flight, because if they have a crash on the ground or in take-off/landing, then everybody already knows where it is.
I assure you that when a plane falls out of the sky somewhere over the ocean, the survival rate is not high.
I think the new mac pro is truly an innovation in desktop computer design. to say anything less is just sour grapes. looking historically, everybody will call out the iPad and iPhone. i think a major innovation was the first unibody macbook pros. i would include the first iMac and also the sunflower iMac, the one with the flat screen. the first iMac killed the floppy drive, and the second iMac killed the CRT.
+1 correct. This isn't "business" by any typical definition, where people work together or compete to make more money. this is thermonuclear patent war.
i agree with the above, they don't care about the money. remember SJ's words "android is a stolen product, and he's willing to go to thermonuclear war to stop it." this isn't even business anymore, it's burn-it-all-down revenge. Toot suite!
dude, don't be a sucker! they just push it on you because the gross margins are huuuge. my favorite cables come from monoprice. You can get a 3 foot HDMI cable for $3, and a 6 foot cable for $4.
Note that I only mentioned passwords. Android offers other authentication options, including face unlock, pattern and PIN (arbitrary-length numeric password) as well as alphanumeric password. Encryption requires PIN or password. Face unlock is convenient (once sufficiently well-trained), but not very secure; lots of random people will be able to unlock your phone and pattern is moderately good if you use a complex pattern and make a habit of wiping the screen clean, at least enough to smear out any pattern trails.
iPhone also has alphanumeric passwords and fingerprint password too.
Citation needed for the "laughably easy to defeat 'Find My Phone' and 'Remote Wipe' options". How are these laughably easy to defeat? Do tell. Also iphones have a kill switch installed, so they can't be wiped and reused. Compare this to your android solution of asking slashdot. I await more information.
I don't think the meta meta data matters that much. The issue at hand is the scope and invasiveness of their program. This can be amply demonstrated by examining the data they will still have available. The additional older data won't add that much.
There's a difference between forking android for a particular device and not having Play Store on that device, vs forking for a particular device then getting thrown out of OHA so NONE of your devices have gApps. The latter is what is going on here.
This is big nasty corporate bullying that blocks new tech and stymies innovation. Do no evil?

whatevs, not a good use of time.

Why don't we let the businessmen make the business decisions, huh? Instead of being back seat QBs?

Dude, sound like much more of a pain in the ass than just tapping a number! Sounds like something worthy of a patent.
if we're going to spend money on airplane safety why don't we actually spend it on something that makes passengers safer???

burrn!!!!
did you tap the number itself? or a button in the vicinity of the number? cuz this patent is about tapping the number itself, which is then dialed.
