Here are some questions for you. Why are you interviewing your boss? Is there no one there above you that can interview a perspective boss? Why would you tolerate being the person to interview your boss? What I am trying to say is that a worker should never have to, expect to, or want to interview their boss. If your company things you have what it takes to interview your boss then you should be the boss. If you choose not to be the boss then you should also step away from any hiring decisions for your boss. You should really just step away from the task and tell your company to find another sucker for the job.
"And unfortunately, while we may not -like- a lot of the decisions coming out of there lately, they are by and large legally sound (granted: they are lawyers, so they're good at rationalizing most anything)."
With a lot of the recent decisions it seems the law really has little to do with it. If it was just based on law there wouldn't be so many 5 to 4 decisions. Most decisions would be 9 to 0. Which means the laws are not written well which then means they are not good laws to begin with and the court should either refuse to hear most cases or excuse themselves from the decision because there isn't enought "meat" in the current law to make a valid decision.
Can't wait for this. Great idea, and good use of our government. I imagine for the first few months the fines will be a tidy income for the government. Now if we can get them to regulate the brightness of commercials, especially at night.
What happens when the world economy collapses due to unchecked greed by banks and corporations. Mass rioting and general world wide social upheaval will ensue. What middle class will survive that. And what about the zombies?
I gave them the number of people and the basic startup and initial costs to move to an internally maintained and supported Linux. There were two gotchas. COTS software not being certified on the in-house Linux platform and having to man an in house help desk and SA staff to maintain the OS. The first was bad the second was the killer. Seems no one wants to pay what it takes to maintain the qualified help to support Linux. Everybody loves the "free" aspect of the OS but then when you show them it actually costs a fair bit of money to maintain it then the interest seems to wain.
Why aren't there apps that activity go after the Ad sites with spam and other annoying type internet drek. We are not asking for the adds so it should be okay to send them some unwanted internet junk.
then teachers can actually focus on teaching the more complex and intricate subjects. The stuff good teachers would rather be teaching anyways. So will teachers be outmoded in the future. Maybe for some of the things teachers teach now, yes. But others teachers will always be needed.
A decade to build and $1B to build? My bet is that any of the oil companies could get a facility up and going in less than a year if they decided to go that way.
Can Dr. Dawkins be mic-ed. so all the back ground noise is masked and he doesn't sound like he is in a barrel? The vacuum is louder than he is. Should be an interesting interview it I can hear what he is saying. How about posting the full transcripts?
"Where does this nerd arrogance come from?"
Ignorance.
"How can it be rectified?"
With time, education and humility (i.e. being smacked down a few times)
"Has anybody run into problems in life with the arrogance that seems to be so prevalent with nerds? "
Not really but being smarter than most nerds helps. I am sure nerds, themselves, are there own worst enemies.
"If so, how did you handle the situation?"
It usually works its own way out. If the arrogance goes beyond a person's 20's then lack of promotion and lack of engaging work usually snuffs out that problem. Most professional adults can overlook some arrogance if the work product is good. At some point arrogance needs to turn into confidence and authority. If it doesn't the arrogant shit will end up sitting in his mom's basement shaking his fist at the world.
Many IT professionals called systems administrators have no idea how to code. They basically perform the strict description of systems administration activities. But those who can code tend to be the better sys. admins. and usually end up directing those who do not know how to code. Coding is one of many tools a proficient sys. admin. has. Another is problem solving skills. Believe it or not there are systems administrators out there that can actually solve a problem without calling the vendor.
Do you ever just get tired of trying to get ignorant people to understand something that they have no interest in knowing. And a follow on is, over many years you have been trying to explain evolution and scientific principles to people through literature, do you think there are less people now than when you first started willing to listen to or read your message?
Math isn't really hard. But you have a little bit of a problem with one of your translations. Chemistry is Alchemy, at least the way it is taught in our schools.
Yeah, the $30 per day per student adds up to a lot of money. Probably covers the school's operating costs for the year. But this will be a nice test to see how much hacking can be done to this type of setup. I am thinking the kids will do all kinds of things from planting RFID's in everyroom they are suppose to be in to actually to hacking the computers keeping the data, to hacking the transmitters to have a wider range. Cools stuff for industrious students.
But maybe, just maybe some politicians understand that with such legislation they themselves fall victim to the very laws that get created. Having their privacy invaded without warrant doesn't sit well with anyone.
If this government was really serious about dealing with China then they would take away China's favored nation trading status. Sure China is getting all the latest tech info by grabbing it from out IT infrastructure. But when we make it so easily available what does the government expect?
Well, having a moon base would be great. Especially if there is a lot of water ice. Should be easy to maintain a manned base there. But guess what we (USA) aren't going back there for a while. And China is making plans to get there well before we get back to the moon. So if/when the U.S. decides to go back to the moon maybe China will let us land.
If folks actually think government agencies and industry aren't well aware of the criticality of the security threats then they are living in a fantasy world. I can believe congress has that attitude. Those folks are literally 10 years or more behind the curve in IT technology. And this just sounds like another attempt at grabbing more control of the internet by fear mongering.
Robots are machines. Until they get sentience they are just machines, to be abused as we see fit. Sure humans like to anthropomorphize everything we deal with but when it comes to machines they are not living beings. Robots are just tools to help us do what we can't or won't do ourselves.
Subsume the production of all commodity computer equipment in the world. Then introduce firmware that can do all sorts of things with the hardware, hence you would have complete control over your enemy's equipment.

Does a dead human produce when burned? Soylent Green isn't people, the fuel used to create the power to your house is.

Maybe the people chosen to implement the IT for Project Orca really didn't want Romney to be president? It takes a village.

The problem is sex education in this country. How about leaving the foreskin and teaching boys how to take care of themselves and what to avoid?
