There was a local group in the Dallas area in the 80's and early 90's that posted.mp3's from the albums they controlled (one major label release not there). I was impressed that there were links to the free downloads and the index is not just listing commercial sites.
BTW the group is Ten Hands. They split just after releasing with a major lable and formed jazz bands (I heard).
And is it any surprise that an agent of the Catholic Church condemns evolution?
Before I got to this point, your post seemed to hit the nail on the head. I hope this comment is only because you did not read the second link, which was poorly charetorized in the summary.
I have spoken with many good catholics, many of whom are or were priests, and have never heard evolution being discredited because it took more than seven days for us to evolve. They have always agreed 100% with your definition of Intelligent Design and that seven days for God is not seven revolutions of our planet.
Just as a side not, my father was taught evolution in private catholic schools in the 50's. I was taught that evolution is "a theory" (yes, that was the full course) in Texas public schools in the 80's.
"The consensus among independent research is that a third of illegal file-sharers may buy more music and around two thirds buy less. That two-thirds tends to include people who were the heaviest buyers which is why we need to continue our carrot and stick approach to the problem of illegal file-sharing."
Anyone out here that has seen something they like while working on a federal contract? I'm sure there are several applications that would be useful, if only as an example of what happens when you design by a committee. I trust a few requsts could go a long way.
...(due to) the brittle nature of the platform, when you do that, other things break
This just made me recall the abject fear I have of installing updates to Windows. I don't get an option to boot to the old kernel when the patch breaks everything else.
these products aren't getting a truly fair test in this market, that is to say, showing its robustness or lack thereof in the primary operating market. Time will tell, I suppose
This may be a fairer test. It will be interesting to see how many people ask to be migrated to Linux that are not in the initial group.
When I read the blurb I was happy to see that it was a Detroit school (I still have faith in that city) and would be excited to see them saving money anywhere.
But, in TFA it does say that this was from U of D Jesuit. A very good school, but not a city school.
It just suddenly dawned on me that it is more surprising to see this from the Catholics than Detroit.
"Because if Linux doesn't work right off the bat, your average newbie is completely fucked"
Have you never installed Windows before? On the same hardware, try installing Windows XP (Retail) and Slackware 10.1 (Retail). You are likely to find that more hardware will be configured and working after a standard Slack install.
Then try one of the distros whose claim to fame is ease of use.
Windows is not easy to install. If you buy a retail computer with Windows installed you will likely get an image CD that simplifies the installation provided no changes have been made to the hardware. I trust you get the same thing when you get a Linspire computer from Walmart.
I dare say that MS stripped it down so that it's just the kernel of 2000 with thin wrappers of DirectX on top of the drivers together with a the minimum requirements of Win32 blockquote>
I wonder what version of IE it's running. We all know that that is a requirement for Windows now.
(From The Seattle Times) "It amounts to about $3,000 per hour for one lawyer, more than $2,000 an hour each for 34 other attorneys and $1,000 an hour for administrative work."
Yes, i know that's an old article, but it would more than likely be similar. When worked out as a 8hr day (9-5), i got $65,400 - not quite $5 million a day.
I think you missed the "$2000 each for 34 other" bit.
More to the tune of $576,000 for an eight hour day. Add a couple dollars to that since no one would trust a lawyer that didn't pad a couple hours each day. Still not $5M per day, but enough to notice.
It could be argued that part of "Homeland Security" is the ability for us to aquire needed products in times of unrest. This (and similar laws) could be used to require a domestic manufacturing base so we can survive without international support.
When China makes moves to regain control of Taiwan, we have sworn to protect Taiwan. If we uphold that commitment, will we be able to survive without Chinese goods?
I do not support in protectionist laws, on the same note I do not support in a foreign policy that creates enemies. Unfortunately, we are creating enemies as a record pace and that is likely to come to a head and we will have to deal with the fall out.
"Buy American" laws may be the most intellegent thing to have happened here for some time.

Isn't that the voting bloc she's trying to woo with this?
My favorite quote:
From a geek perspective I rushed out and bought a MacMini so I could own a PPC system. It is happily running Ubantu right now.

I think we have to remember Kent State and the '68 DNC.
Also seen here.
And that's different from the /. crowd how?
It's nice that all the Dvorak promoters were able to get together at one time.
Similarly, I find myself unable to respect those that do not understand the difference between possesive and plural.
Can an army of mouse junkies be considered a means of illegaly maintaining a monopoly?
This may be a fairer test. It will be interesting to see how many people ask to be migrated to Linux that are not in the initial group.
To me the entire point of a MacMini is the PPC. My OS does not have to change just because of the platform.

I purchase the worst local paper just because the carry the Times daily puzzle.
Does anyone remember gwbush.com and whitehouse.org? Similar action was taken by our current administration afraid they would confuse voters.
Linus is right. His priority is enhancing the Linux kernel and bases his decisions on what he thinks is best for the kernel.
Tridge is right. He saw something interesting and wanted to see how it works and set out to do so within the law.
Everyone can pick which motive they like best and flame on.
I'll just keep mine under my hat.
