Apparently you didn't even make it to the third sentence?
With a plan remarkably similar to Google's they look to build out fiber to the home, business, and so on with gigabit speed and similar rates, symmetric bandwidth and no caps.
This is an issue at our company - we have a number of open positions for PAs, the problem is the applicants we get are mostly people who think they know a lot more than they really do.
Internet-connected. The next Xbox must be Internet-connected to use. This is the source of the “always on”/“always online” rumors and isn’t as Draconian as many seem to believe.
I'm paying $60 a month for 20 Mbps - $70 for 5 times as much? $100 for 50 times as much? Not to mention by 'Symmetric bandwidth' I assume upstream = downstream speeds. It's no Google but it still isn't a bad deal.
I bet that, somehow, even though we're only 20-30 miles from Lawrence, it'll be years before Topeka sees this. Maybe Google will take a second look at us, we did rename our city for a month after all.
I'm sure it'd be permissible, but with a proper key, only without an understanding of how encryption works should you believe anybody has the computing power to crack the current encryption algorithms.
TrueCrypt can do this easily with a properly chosen key. And some non-free options like the one my company uses to encrypt all employee mobile work devices(I don't have a work laptop so I can't recall what software they use)
Folks outside of major metropolitan areas make a little less.
A -little-, yes, but 50k for somebody with two (useful) masters is terrible. Starting pay with a bachelors at my company in Kansas is higher than that.
Didn't we hear the other day how bitcoin 'collapsed' to $120? Now it's 'collapsed' again, this time to $140?
Considering when I was actively mining a year and a half ago they were at $3-4, this is some 'collapse'...
Lately these amendments are used to restrict more and more our rights, though, and to give more and more power to the government and those who finance it.
Set up a VM in Virtual Box for them to use. Take a snapshot of when it was healthy and new and just revert to that each time someone wants to use it. Even paying for a Windows install for the VM would be cheaper than an iPad.
I'd mod this up if I had points, it was going to be my suggestion.
Really, though, the best option has been mentioned elsewhere - give 'em access to your wifi and tell them to bring their own damn computers.:P
I'm not sure about this, what says that if California has a state law about something, a company located in another state has to comply with it? Seems the burden would be on California to block access, not the other way around.
Google and Facebook will fight this tooth and nail, I'm sure, and if it goes through - well, California might see even -more- business leave their state.
Not that I think it's a good thing it'll happen. This is just how it is.
no-one employing you will expect you to have decent specialist skills
Short and sweet and correct. I worked mostly in Java throughout my time in college. I haven't touched the language since(I spend a lot of my time doing database work, and interactions between our database and.NET MVC). As long as you learned the basic concepts, you can work in any development environment.
Going to send this to a friend of mine - he did something very similar but just for his own use on his cars.

Didn't mean to post that as AC - that was me.

If this is true, I won't be buying it.

I saw this and went 'LOL'. ... /. seriously needs to let the bitcoin drama drop. It goes up, it goes down, it'll never be a real currency. LET IT GO.
I, personally, consider the light bulb tests MythBusters did certification enough!
How can you tell which of your colleagues are immigrants and which one are native?
Do you even work in a place around a lot of foreigners? Do you talk to your co-workers?

10k sq miles, sure, if you're counting the metro area - which in Houston's case would also make it over 10k sq miles.

Like a beta-level simulation from Revelation Space? :)

Kilokilometers? Megameters maybe? 'course spell check yells at me for both.
The government could decide to confiscate all your bitcoins too
The only way for the government to confiscate bitcoins would be to copy and decrypt wallet files.

And you need a country with the population density that actually makes systems like these work. The US has 1/3rd the density of Spain.

He is a great writer. Recently read 'Consider Phlebas' and picked up a couple more of his books immediately after finishing it.
