This generates a detatched signature named "THEFILE.asc".
The.asc file can used to verifiy the authenticity of THEFILE by the end user with the command:
'gpg --verify THEFILE.asc'
This method is already in pretty widespread use for open source software distribution. For example, Slackware has used for all official packages since 8.1.
With the phosphates gone, the international money laundering (er banking) industry dismantled, and nothing else on the horizon, this could be just what this island nation needs.
Finally something that severe isolation is good for.

Well, at least that statement seems false.
I don't know what Scaled Composites uses for fuel, but it doesn't sound like that most environmentally friendly propellant I know of.

It actually sounds like quite a nice little embedded system, a kind of grown-up Basic STAMP.
Parallax already has a STAMP that you program in Java alled the Javelin. I don't know if it makes it more grown up or not though.
I've had a couple of these stamps over the years and they're great for hobbiests like me, but they'll never be widely used because they cost too damn much for mass production. I think this.netcpu thing will be in the same boat.
It seems like the only industrial use of these parts would be to make a functional prototype really quickly. Then rewrite everything in C for an Amtel part for production.
The DRI drivers only support ATI cards up to the Radeon 9200 (rv280). It appears that ATI will be following NVidia's footsteps by not releasing specs for their newer cards.
As if it wasn't confusing enough having CA (USPS code for California) and CA (ISO Country Code for Canada). Now I have to consider CA (Abbreviation for Computer Associates) as a possibility when reading headlines.
I don't see how that article has anything to do with this. Can you elaborate?
The new bombshell the article refers to is that SCO is now claiming that IBM used SCO technology in AIX 5L(Power only) that it was only licensed to use for Project Monterey (IA64 only).
The groklaw article reproduces a page from the sco.com website that explained what AIX 5L is and how it uses SCO technology on both Power and IA64 archs.
Doesn't really prove anything I guess, but it sure makes it difficult for SCO to look like they were getting robbed in 2000 when they were bragging about putting the stuff in AIX 5L in 2001.
"The next generation of AIX--AIX 5L--takes AIX to the next level with advanced technology, a strong Linux affinity and added support for IBM's Power and Intel's future IA-64 processor-based platforms, making it the most open UNIX operating system in the industry." -- http://www.sco.com/monterey/aix5l.htm
I wonder why SCOG removed that page, then got it removed from the wayback machine and google cache so fast after that story was up on groklaw.
It seems that Laser Engraving equipment does exist and can cut Marble without problem.
No, that URL says it can engrave marble. There's a big difference. Also, I wouldn't be surprized if by 'engrave' they actually mean 'etch' because I think even a 45W laser engraver will have problems getting much depth in marble.
One of the coolest things I've seen these things do is mark steel.
Actually, I've seen this too (screenshot). It just started noticing it when I started using 0.9. That's also the same time I started using AdBlock too, so I suspect AdBlock may be to blame.
At the same time, can that many people in India afford equipment that would let them crack the system?
If you had read the article, you'de realize that the voters don't have physical access to the equipment to crack it. Only the election official has physical access to the device that stores votes. The polling station is simply a peripheral input device.
Even with today's flat-panel LCD's, two monitors will hog a lot of desktop space, something that might not be desirable in many cases.
If you would have left that third paragraph off of your post, I would have rated Funny. (I thought you were talking about 'desktop' in terms of root window).
Hell yes, some of us NEED multiple monitor setups. I've been using a dual monitor setup for about 5 years and although I can get by with one, it would make my day to day work much more annoying. It would be like replacing a mechanics impact wrench with a tire iron.
I do hear your point about a single widescreen display. I really wish someone would make a LCD display that is 8;3 (two 4;3 lcd screens stapped together with no gap between them).
I don't think you're accounting for the energy used in production and delivery of the sugar. Not to mention the fact that the ethanol you've produced, while great for consuming, cannot be burned in internal combustion engines until you get nearly half of the water out of the solution.
It took me 5 tries to mentally pronounce this one correctly. I'de have just given up on Neoparthenogenesis and mumbled "neo*cough*pa*cough*esis" to myself as I read.
Not really. It has a data front-end that can be plugged into a backend database, but nothing as self-contained as Access.
OO 1.1 does have dBase (database in a file) support built in. With it, you can create a database, design tables, use sql queries, and even create 'Forms' for editing records one at a time. I'm not saying it can do everything Access can do, but a lot of the functionality is there.

It seems to me that www.macombshreriff.com is not exactly the proper domain for a government website.
How is withholding this domain possibly extorting the county? It's not like it can be that valuable to the county government, only to one mans re-election bid.
I just love how posting informative posts on slashdot results in putdowns for being too informative.
I could see your point if original post was referencing an original work that most poeple were aware of, used the same phrasing as the original, or _was_ original, but it wasn't.
That reminds me, I've heard Brazil does not poison their automotive ethanol with methanol like the USA does.
The first thing I thought of when I heard that was the Simpson's episode where Homer is fueling his car with enthanol. "One for you, one for me...".

A few years ago (3 to 4) Sony was releasing an official distribution of Linux for the PlayStation2.
It's not that this isn't good news, it's just not incredible.

The article says it's a two digit code. If it's decimal digits only (hell even hex) you have a pretty good shot at brute forcing it.
The tricky part is finding the "secret area" of the screen.

One of the coolest things I've seen these things do is mark steel.- vi bindings work like tcsh
- preexec function that allows me to update xterm title bars before the command runs in them
- multiple output redirection (e.g. date > out1 > out2)
On the other hand, I much prefer bash for writing shell scripts because it has many features that make it a better tool for that job:- supports TCP and UDP filehandles (e.g.
/dev/tcp/localhost/80)
- nice array variables
- installed on just about every linux system
YMMVHitting reload a couple times fixes it.

You burn less than 500Kcal doing this all.

I find it interesting that Mandrake has choosen to use such an old version. 3.8p1 was just released 2 weeks ago.
Perhaps the September 2003 string of 3.7 exploits scared them off.

Volume, baby. Volume.
That's exactly how First Citiwide Change Bank stays in business.
Bank Representative: All the time, our customers ask us, "How do you make money doing this?" The answer is simple: Volume. That's what we do.
