I also work for a govt. agency.. and the absolutely, completely, bonheaded, nonthinking, Borg-perfect actions of the US govt. to use MS only solutions at the expense of any and all other computing solutions has been set in stone for some time now.
In the Air Force, they call it Joint Technical Architecture - and while it inlcudes unix today, it won't tomorrow.
In the Navy, they call it IT2000... it just as well should be called Windows2000.
DISA - Defense Information Service Agency - has a brilliant idea... make everyone fall under a single defense information infrastructure common operating environment - DII-COE - put all of our fscking eggs in one basket - which is held by Redomond.

In short - i have seen all Mac communities, all NeXT communites, all SGI communities, and all Sun communities get their perfectly good computers tossed out, sent to DRMO (where you can get insane deals on hardware... buckets of Sun UltaSparcs for $50 a bushell, etc.).. all of them... packed up and shipped out for shitty fscking Compaq and Dell servers that give us nothing but the shits.
What people fail to realize is that in a lt of these kinds of communites, the people coming up now EXPECT computers to crash, to hang up, to fsck you over at any old time.. its old hat, and it doesn't bother them.
And - i promise i'm NOT going Mulder on you - but i am convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a good reason for it.
Someone is living in redmond, and they don't work for Bill.. and the only way to assure that there are backdoors, ways in, and holes in security are to use this software, shit or not. I have seen grown up adults literally piss and moan that I couldn't demand a certain kind of projector, computer, or other piece of hardware because i didn't have a reason.. because we cannot "sole-source" our purchases.
5 seconds later, the only option we have which is directed by the same officers and contractors full of MSCE pukes is that we throw out PERFECTLY GOOD hardware and software - and bring in shitty Windows boxen.
I had a DNS server at a base that i had been told has been up for 4 years before i got there.. and in 3 years there, never crashed once. It was a Sparc classic. The Win-based Compaq POS that replaced the Sparc went down once a week.. and had to be restarted every night.. it was a checklist item to restart the Exchange and DNS servers.
In any case... i would say that it woudl behoove you to not fuck around with UNIX any more.. i promise that your ass is NOT going to win.. you ARE going to get overruled, and you ARE going to get fired for not going with the program if you continue to bitch and moan.
It WILL NOT matter that real work falls on the floor.. it WILL NOT matter that you have to keep fucking with the new machines every day.. and it will NOT BOTHER your higher ups or the workerbees.. so long as they finally get Outlook 2000 and MS Word... which is all they really want.
I pity you.. and i will pray for you. I pray for all of our souls.. i'm just glad i'm not going to be CIO of my location in 2 weeks... and that i'm off to other things.
Here are the following types of things that can be added/used with/upgraded in the current round of G4 macs (and most G3 macs too)
PC-100 Ram ATA/33 and ATA/66 drives PCI AGP 2x USB 1394 SCSI Iomega Zip etc.etc.etc...
Here is what I have on my PowerMac 7500 - Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card - Entrega USB 2 port PCI card
On my G4 - 256 Megs of PC-100 Ram (Bought it at Pomona computer show) - 30 gig Western Digital 7200 RPM ATA/66 - Voodoo 3 2000 PCI (because i want two monitors) - Dell 19" VGA monitor (on the Voodoo 3 card) - Micron 17" VGA monitor (on the Rage128 AGP) - USB Video Bus by Belkin (Made for Windows 98) - Kensington Turboball (USB)
On my Wallstreet G3 - Lucent Silver ORiNOCO (formerly WaveLan, formerly geesh!) Airport compatible PCMCIA card
the days of mac only hardware are just simply gone. Now, its just a matter of drivers, most of the time.
What do you mean - "what they don't tell you about GPS?" If you mean that owners - the US Air Force, they tell lots., including all that.
This is widely known and common information - obviously. I mean, if you know about it, its not that unknown now, is it?
Space Times, Jane's, and other Federal geek rags have told you all about this many times over. And I'm sure that you can find the info at either www.laafb.af.mil (they guys that bought and built it) and/or www.schriever.af.mil (the guys who fly it).
Not only everything you said - but Clinton wrongly told everyone that the AF was going to give everyone 1m resolution with consumer gear. Unfortunately, he didn't give them an executive order - so they ignored him, as usual. Consumer gear without using multisampling (sitting in one spot for a while to get a more accurate position by taking more samples) give you around 30 m accuracy (that is, its off by about errrr at least 30 m in all directions (like you were in a 30 m hampster ball)
Surveyors use multisampling GPS do this all the time.
Many people use it just for timing anyway - not caring about the location, but use it to keep lots of clocks across a wide area in sync.
i'm rambling - but i was concerned that "they" have told us a LOT about GPS... none of this info should be shocking and none of it is secret or unknown in any fashion.
Modern Apple hardware is not all that hot. Look at the quality of the components in the iMac, G3, G4. Nothing all that different than the stuff that gets put into most PCs. But still a bit more expensive (although less so than previously). The last *really* nice Apple hardware, IMO, was the 8500.
Your statement here lead me to believe that you have never SEEN a G4 or an 8500.
Here is a RAM install on an 8500...
The 8500 requires 4 screws to be removed... to get the case off. Then you must force the case cover to come off - usually requires placing the unit on the floor betwen your legs, and swinging your arms across the case cover and grabbing it as your arms go by, to try to pry it off from the case. Then slide the case cover about 2 inches from the case, then pull off.
Then you need to disconnect the SCSI cable, power cable, and audio cable to the CD ROM drive.
Then, remove all PCI cards and the CPU daughtercard.
Remove the powerplugs into the motherboard.
Then, remove the screw holding the motherboard to the plastic backing.
Then, extracate the motherboard from the
whoops.. i just realized that your post is FLAMEBAIT because this is the stupidest fucking industrial designed computer that Apple ever made - and everyone knows it. The 8500 was the only Mac ever to cause people to curse 1/4 into the Ram installation process.
Apple has simplified where necesary - IDE vs SCSI, USB vs ADB.. but other than the mouse and keyboards, Apple hardware has only gotten better, stronger, and simpler to work with.
And as for people like me who build their boxes, there's still no comparison to what I can do with commodity PC parts. An SMP machine for less than $1000. Beat that with Apple hardware.
I can't recall a single person on the planet ever disagreeing that if you want to spend hours dinking with crufly little wrist-slashing homebrew PC cases to save a few hundred or to do some insanely odd job like a SMP box (except that SMP daughter cards are now available....) on a $50 budget... then don't buy a Mac.. buy a PC.
its like either BUYING a Honda or making a kit car... if you enjoy making kit cars - that's great. I used to do that and it was fun and ther'es nothing wrong with it. Some of us just want to drive cars even if we don't want to bother to make them. Its all just personal preference.
BTW: to finish... on the G4 - pull case tab, open case, install ram, close case.
(see : http://slashdot.org/articles/99/08/25/209211.shtml )
The problem is quite. Simple (should you take the time to look at it if you were able to. Pass a Cisco door examination ( as i did, being quite intellectual ).
Looking at it with the Octet Rule ( which i invented Obviously to help with our IP addressing problems ), you will find that if you take The subnet of the hyperspace transducer ( which is obviously where these people who did not get Consulting/IT degrees ) and apply it to the force. Of negative ( not bad ) polarity using an electro subnet.
Unbelievable! To think that simply using common ( for professionals who network as Do I ) engineering principals ( even aginst Obvious people against me ) such as inversion of.
Never the less, the scheme similar to the one i used ( Obviously ) before when I wrote such a bad. Ly written paper that used ( to be truthful ) incohearant logic That I used before.
"As soon as I posted that comment, I knew I should have clarified: Of course 1394 can be used internally. USB can be used internally, too. Parallel ATA can be used externally. But that's not how they're intended to be used."
well, that's even not true... or am i supposed to run the 1394 port inside my Apple Power Macintosh G4 thru an empty PCI slot to hook something up on the outside?
People, companies (HD makers, esp.) are fearful of 1394 because of two reasons..
Apple is pushing it - and Intel no longer wants anything to do with it. Its simple racism errrrr bias against Apple as usual...
Its also something far more insidious... there is an undercurrent within the WinTel community of prepared difficulty. You see, if shit was as easy as plugging it in to any 1394 port... well then, what would guys with MSCE's and tape holding their glasses together do? You don't need to pay someone $39 to install a $100 hard drive when hooking it up is coin-slot simple...
The perpetually retarded "I want control over the settings" PC vs. Mac arguement is the same kind of mindset that prevents people from accepting things like USB.. how many of you had anything USB pre-iMac... that's what i thought...
And 1394 is far far easier than USB! It makes "your friend that knows computers" (the same guy that comes over when a newbie buys a PC and installs illegal copies of 98, Office 2000, games, etc.) a far less useful person.
1394 takes the power out of the geeks hands and puts it into the customers hands.. and Intel, MS, and other surely couldn't stand for that.... that's why USB 2.x, which will be far far more confusing that this article assumes (how can you tell the difference between a USB 2.x hub and a USB 1.2 hub besides price? How do you draw up a network diagram to plan out your migration from USB 1.2 to 2.x? You'll need new hubs, new cables, you'll need to decide where to use the new hubs in relation to the speed of the devices and the old hubs, etc..)
USB 2.x stinks... it stinks to high heaven. its Intel's way of making *their* newer products necessary unnecessarily.
It seems like Sony just won't be an IBM-ish pansy when it comes to others reverse engineering their gear... So instead, they are going to Johnny Cochran Connectix out of existence (sue them till they run out of money) even if they have to use the Chewbacca offense...
South Park Johnny Cochran: Chewbacca is a Wookie.. who lives on Kashyykk... with Ewoks.. now does that make any sense?!?!?!
Then you must aquit.
Sony - get a life - make PlayStation 2 and don't worry! Your stuff is going to get legally REd eventually.. sorry to break it to you. Call IBM and cry on their fuckin shoulder.
from the Wired Article talking about the huge f_up with copy protected CDs...
"It's a cost-benefit to the company. If copy protection can drive 50 percent more sales, then maybe it's worth it," Hoffman said.
Sweet Mary Mother of Gates! These people actually harbor delusions in their heads 1) that 50 of their stuff is pirated 2) that every pirater, if "forced" would actually BUY the stuff rather than live without it.
How far, exactly, does your head have to be crammed up your ASS to think that you could do 150% more sales if you could somehow just make it harder and more complicated for your customers to use your products to the point that they are unusable?
First - if you anticipate 50% more sales - you have to anticipate that at least 90% of your product is being pirated... because we all know that if these pimple faced WaREz geeks weren't filling up harddrives full of Autodesk 13 and Photoshop, they be lighting cats on fire or some other stupid, useless thing to consume their time.
Is the concept of a person like me (thru the power of his G4/450, in record time, i might add) cranking out entirely LEGAL CD collections of 300+ disks into mp3s ONLY to gain portability and ease of use just _that_ f_ing alien to these people?
These people are more confused than the FBI at a Richard Jewel look-alike contest. They make the Special Olympics look like a fuckin MENSA meeting.
Whackamole, technology supremecy, old-fashioned CP hacking (Go C64!) will force these people to change - since technology alone just doesn't seem to work.
If they took the time and effort into stupid shit like SMID and put it into forming silly things like BUSINESS PLANS on how to sell mp3's over the net, they'd be even MORE rich than they are now.
These guys are real-world Dr. Evils... instead of blowing up the planet, they should just sell the fucking Starbucks.
How is slashdot covering mosr a bad thing?

A lot of folks here have been complaining that./ is running a story from Ryan Meaders website.
But if you think about it - if we ran a story on/. each day that referenced mosr.com, that means he'd be/.'d every single day...
so, i promise to do may part, and each day, sumbit a story to slashdot telling everyone about something new that Ryan Meader is talking about. Won't you join me in my fight against stupidity on the web via non-violent means?
And if they don't like that, then they can do whatever the hell they feel like doing, but they aren't going to get me like Winston.
They can't tell me how to think. I can and will be wrong if i feel like it.
They cannot make me go into the night drooling and crying at the sight of BB like they did Winston. Winston should have killed himself. Winston was a puss. He gave up the most important thing of all - freedom of his own mind.
while we can criticize capitalism - we can criticize how it allows death and hunger... how can we blindly forget the means to justifying the other end of the political and economic system?
20 million dead Russians 10+ million dead in SE Asia after the US pullout
of course, Big Brother was quite good at hiding such unnecessary data in the media in the MinTruth - today's equvalent would be CNN and the LA Times.
The funny part about this whole never-ending debate is that the concepts of capitalism are synonymous with what Charles Darwin called "survival of the fittest" - which SHOULD be more properly called "death of the weaker". If you don't want to suck down the bitter pill that Darwin's point was "lots of people live shitty lives then die and a small random few do not. They thrive over the others by eating them and adapting ways to not be eaten by them" Well hell's bells! Is that not what our buddy Case is doing? He's eating the others and preventing others from being able to eat him.
Or are we going to all become crationists here and start subscribing to an all powerful, all caring force controlling how people should live and how they should act and what is good and what is bad?
What bothers me about those in such a hurry to return to Marxism - the White House, Supreme Court, and nearly half of the Legislative branch, and the "new" forum to create class envy - the minority leaders like Farakan and Jackson and other Anti-semite racists - which, without exception, has resulted in the need to squash the desire for freedom - though it could cause death, or lesser standards of living, less gadgets, etc - thru the use of mass murder of those who do not want to follow the communist leaders.
Of course, in the future, with technology, maybe we could forgo the need to mass murder those who are "politically incorrect" and simply brainwash them, modify them, educate them - to think the right way.
There was no real reason to kill Winston at the end of 1984 other than for Big Brother to prove a point. Winston could have returned to te real world, loving BB, being reeducated by the government.
So, we are left with two choices - either "this piece of land is mine" or "this piece of land is everyone's, and everyone gets to look into what i do on that piece of land." Again, the funny part is that the left would say on one hand "what goes on in my bedroom is my private life" and in the next breath, they want to impose OSHA standards on "home offices" - effectively saying "Yeah, we're not going into your bedroom, unless that's where your computer is."
Those who will not choose to give up their right to do what they wish with their portion of land in any way they chose will fight to the death to keep that right - the other side will simply kill them without thought in order to make behavior, thoughts, and deeds acceptable and correct.
of course, i could always just drive my EV-1 electric, non-poluting car, to the video store..
oh wait... the amount of air pollution from the coal burning plant to make the electricity, the losses incurred in the powerlines to send it to me, and the inefficiency of electric motors in 2000 would actually be multiple times higher than the near-zero poluution that all post-1995 cars get at speed.
Buy DIVX and save the fucking world.
You know... "environmentalists" would be funnier if they didn't make the price of gas go up when they get an idea that cleans the air and fucks up the water.... jerks.
>>I don't see why you couldn't build a "smart" IDE disk controller that places no more load on the system that a SCSI controller, or even one that looks like a SCSI controller to the computer, but uses IDE disks (so long as you have room on the card, give them all a dedicated IDE channel, too.) The price difference between the drives should pay for the controller! >>
This already exists for the Macintosh.
Promax (promax.com) has a card called the TurboMax card.... which is a card with 2 ATA/33 busses on it, allowing Mac users to use up to 4 IDE drives on them.
The card makes the drives look like SCSI ID 1-4, and you can even use adaptec RAID software if you like.
I use it now on my G3 "server" that i use to handle about 100 email accounts, web server, and even a Quake server... no perceptable speed difference - and, in fact, since the machine only came with SCSI-1, i get up to 12megs/sec thruput with benchmark software where i only got 5.5 with my Barracuda.
>>but do we really need it on/.? (Jim Rome=+5) Dood...
he cut his tounge in fuckin half and the man shoved plastic pellets into his freakin skull.
What the hell else do you want to see today?
I want to go home with this guy to his parents house... "Hey mom, yeah, i uh.. jammed plastic B-B's into my forehead.. oh and i used an argon LASER to cut my tounge in half."
Dood's chick and him at her parent's house on Christmas... "Dad, here's my boyfriend errrr lizardfriend. He can lick two ice cream cones at the same time. He's really mature and makes a lot of money. Oh, and he's going to look like this in the wedding pictures"
These people should be allowed to be.. but fuck... what the hell is wrong with you that you have to cram gear INTO your forehead?
What bed do you fall off on the wrong side of and say "Hey, i want to look like the BIGGEST MORON that has EVER LIVED. Now how can i best accomplish that? I know, i'll get a LAZER and a EXACTO knife, and some plastic parts from that airplane kit, and make myself look like i'm a lizard."
I don't know.. but maybe a small nuclear war wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.
I emailed TiVO a long time ago.... and got one of their tech geeks responding..
he said that the things that are planned for TiVO next were built-in DSS/pay cable decoding (thus no longer requiring a separate box) and Firewire to allow for not only expansion.. but transport..
"Dood, i recorded X-Files last night... should i ring it by?" "Yeah, and put a copy of Unreal Tourney on there, would ya? @Home crashed on me again so i couldn't download it."
I assure you that everything that has to do with the DOJ case concerning Microsoft was done on 100% on Microsoft 95, 98, NT, Office, and Exchange.
The US Govt. has all but said "well, we want MS as a monopoly and screw the rules".
I can't think of a single new unclassified project, group, standard, technology, or policy that doesn't mandate the use of MS products... especially in the DoD.
um... i work in a government office... and i ASSURE YOU...
macros are completely fucking trivial. most of these people wouldn't even notice if they all got StarOffice since they'd ask the same amount of stupid questions. Moving to StarOffice wouldn't increase or decrease the number of questions, it would just cost taxpayers a whole hellouva lot less.
on the Air Force side of the house, we call it Joint Technical Architecture - JTA.
JTA is basically a list of Microsoft products that you must buy if you're going to start anything new.
What's even worse is the new messageing system for all of DoD... Defense Messaging System (DMS). Its replacing AUTODIN because its not Y2K compliant.
DMS is a hacked version of Microsoft Exchange Server and Client (yes, that's pre-Outlook) that does X-400. Now, the funny thing is that the DMS version of Exchange is not the same as the COTS version of Exchange... and so even if you have an exchange server, you still have to buy Exchange DMS Server and Exchange DMS Client.
What's really comical is that, because of DMS, all the AF bases switched off of perfectly fine UNIX servers, perfectly good Sun boxes, perfectly good email clients... and forced everyone to buy big heavy NT machines.
But that's only the tip of the Fraud Waste and Abuse...
See, to get a "jump" on the future, many many many bases went to Digital Alpha NT servers!!! Set the "Way-Back" machine to mid 2000... there are going to be tons and tons (literally) of Alpha servers being thrown out to pasture since there's no more NT on Alpha.. no more DMS on Alpha..
and all that heavy iron will be sitting next to the completely useable, but horribly unused Sun SparcStations in some extra office... collecting dust.
What a waste of your tax money.
ps: my thanks to all of you for paying me to fuck you over for you! pps: it wasn't my idea.... i'm getting beaten up twork for using StarOffice.
Please, people... Call Jesus anything but a good moral leader. He specifically was not that. He claimed to be God - the Creator of the Universe, the creator of you and of me
So, please, cram your Jesus and Mohammed and Confucious are all good teacher crap up your nose and use some thinking skills.
Christianity - the plain old Biblical non screwed up form - is the belief in #3 of the 3 options of what Jesus was.
That is, Jesus was and is still God. He did not say "be good and go to heaven". He did not say "follow a moral teacher and go to heaven"
He spoke against Islam, against Buddism, against Confusionism... He said "I am the way, I am the truth, and I am the life. No one comes to the Father but by me." This is a XOR. Any other options other than him return a 0.
A lot of you are speaking about a great many other people - people in African jungles, people in Iran, etc - and it seems as though you are doing this to divert the discussion from what is actually important to you - YOU!
That is, what do YOU think Jesus was... 1. He was lying? 2. He was a lunatic? 3. He was telling the truth?
You are not the creator of the people in African jungles or the creator of people who live in Musilm countries.... Jesus said "judge not, lest you be judged" in reference to the final disposition of someone's life when they die.
What is going to happen to the people in Africa that have not heard about Christ? I do not know... that's not my call. What's going to happen to the people in Iran who have not heard about Christ? I dont know, that's not my call.
however, since i HAVE heard about Christ - since i have been given the chance to respond to the question, What was Jesus? Lying, Crazy, or who He said He was?
If you chose 1 or 2 - well then, that is between you and God... however, it does not mean that someday, your heart will not be lead to the truth.
I do not know anything other than that i am so glad that He saved me from my own self-sustainment and self-worth. He saved me by His choise.
And see, what it really boils down to is that when YOU create a universe, you get to make the rules as to how its made.
The Bible is hardly the entirety of God... its meerely a glimpse for us to draw us to Him.
We can never take in and understand God fully.... can your fish in his tank understand you? Hell, can you fully understand how that fish was made? Of course not.
What you do with Christ is up to you. But you must chose yourself - decide what your answer is to the question, and worry about yourself as far as your salvation and your soul are concerned. Its not your job to deicde the fate of the guys in deep dark Africa.
What is your choise, my friend? ___ "I know kung-fu."
My dad has been at Disney West (aka Disneyland, the Tragic Kindom, the Crapiiest Place on Earth) for 25 years building, repairing, designing, modernizing, etc. anything electronic on the campus.
Anything and everything at the place is run on Z-80 processors. They are cheap, they are easy to program for.... all the animatronics, all the float controllers, the fireworks launchers, the sound systems for the rides, the ride controllers (except some of the newer rides like Star Tours and Indy, where the Z-80 couldn't handle it)... all of these are run by DOS machines holding the programs and then talking to the Z-80's running the stuff.
factoids - there is no more analog tape at disneyland on continuous loop for things like ride music, etc.. Its all stored solid state - not harddrive... EPROMs. very^very expensive.. but it never breaks... they never have to fix it. new stuff is digitally recorded and burned in just a few steps. (this was under old management when doing shit right meant it was done right, even if expensive)
Been on Whiplash errrr Splash Mountain? Why is it so fast? Why do things scream by at mach 9? Well, it was supposed to be 25% larger... to save money, they asked "can't we just build it smaller? Everything 1 foot long will now be 9 inches! Save money!" They told them that water moves faster in smaller spaces, but they didn't listen. The ride was delayed weeks because they did everything but install 4-wheel disk breaks to slow down the boats.
They don't clean the scenes of Haunted Mansion. They haven't for over 30 years.
There is a LED counter on the president of Disneyland's (i forget his name now.. and no, its not Eisner... i mean the Pres (VP?) of Disneyland) desk of exactly how many people are in the park. Average worth of each patron is $85 with tickets, parking, food, and Disney chatchka.
Fantasimic was due to Mrs Eisner. They were going to either do a big show thing or a coaster... they went with the show thing. Buttons popped up saying "Could'a had a coster" on them... they were later banned.
The same kinds of people concerned with ISA slots still well believe that its necessary to keep around a 5 1/4 floppy drive.
While you _may_ have some of this foo still around, it begs the question - if its still in that form - and you haven't updated yet, what makes you think you'll need it later? And if it was that important, you'da done something about it by now.
We all have old legacy hardware and software... so keep around an old legacy system to deal with it! I have a old IIci lying around just so that i can run some old system 6 music software i don't want to upgrade because i need it almost never.
USB - its here, (its queer), and it works on everything but NT 4.0 (hence, no one cares). Apple is going to have a beta of its "USB driver database" up and running soon - plug in a usb device, you don't have the driver? Autodownload and autoinstall.... why not an open systems approach to this? Why the hell isn't usb.org providing this all-friggin ready? The time has come to invent solutions rather than bitch about problems.
USB 2.0 will not happen... so i won't go there.
Firewire - its here. Its expensive - but what isn't the first go around? And who cares right now, we still have ATA. (Now, a universal ATA/Firewire adaptor... that would be something...) Eventually, drives of all kinds will be Firewire. You will not have USB CD-RWs and USB HD's... these were done soley as a gapfilling measure for iMacs and should be done away with ASAP.
Living on a Mac teaches you a few things.. one of which is that sometimes, you have to lose a few things to gain so many more... no one died without serial on the iMac... and no one is dying without it on the PowerMacs..
if you NEED these legacy things... adaptors get built and sold and people make money. Look at the USB section at frys if you need proof of this. They have USB adaptors for shit i didn't even know anyone cared about still.
I have Firewire, USB, SCSI-2 (on a PCI card), and 100bt ethernet, Airport, AGP and 1 open PCI/66 slot left.
PCI/AGP - graphics and cards Firewire - highspeed devices USB - low speed devices ATA/SCSI (unfortunately, until FW picks up) - drives Ethernet - for ethernet Power - power
What are you missing in this list? What are you still buying that doesn't havea plug for one of these interfaces? And if it doesn't fit on all that - is there an adaptor to legacy me back? - yes, yes there is.

I pray for all of our souls.. i'm just glad i'm not going to be CIO of my location in 2 weeks... and that i'm off to other things.
oh well.
damn.. that's fucking depressing.
Here are the following types of things that can be added/used with/upgraded in the current round of G4 macs (and most G3 macs too)

A lot of folks here have been complaining that ./ is running a story from Ryan Meaders website.
/. each day that referenced mosr.com, that means he'd be /.'d every single day...
But if you think about it - if we ran a story on
so, i promise to do may part, and each day, sumbit a story to slashdot telling everyone about something new that Ryan Meader is talking about. Won't you join me in my fight against stupidity on the web via non-violent means?
Yeah.
They can go fuck themselves.
20 million dead Russians
10+ million dead in SE Asia after the US pullout
of course, Big Brother was quite good at hiding such unnecessary data in the media in the MinTruth - today's equvalent would be CNN and the LA Times.

>>

Dood...
he cut his tounge in fuckin half and the man shoved plastic pellets into his freakin skull.
"Dood, i recorded X-Files last night... should i ring it by?"
"Yeah, and put a copy of Unreal Tourney on there, would ya?
I normally /. at 2 or better..
/. will be oversaturated by completely worthless posts.
i just looked at the useless shit posted at 1 to -1... and i do wonder when
um... sorry..
but its not a rumor.
I have a friend who is currently in a Apple software About box.. and he said that when version 1.1 ships, no names will be in it.
It is true, it is real, and i don't really have a feeling on it one way or the other...

The Zylog Z-80 processor.
My dad has been at Disney West (aka Disneyland, the Tragic Kindom, the Crapiiest Place on Earth) for 25 years building, repairing, designing, modernizing, etc. anything electronic on the campus.
Anything and everything at the place is run on Z-80 processors. They are cheap, they are easy to program for.... all the animatronics, all the float controllers, the fireworks launchers, the sound systems for the rides, the ride controllers (except some of the newer rides like Star Tours and Indy, where the Z-80 couldn't handle it)... all of these are run by DOS machines holding the programs and then talking to the Z-80's running the stuff.
factoids -
there is no more analog tape at disneyland on continuous loop for things like ride music, etc..

Good Lord, ISA?
PCI/AGP - graphics and cards
Firewire - highspeed devices
USB - low speed devices
ATA/SCSI (unfortunately, until FW picks up) - drives
Ethernet - for ethernet
Power - power
What are you missing in this list? What are you still buying that doesn't havea plug for one of these interfaces?
And if it doesn't fit on all that - is there an adaptor to legacy me back? - yes, yes there is.
