because the original idea of the patent system is that you don't have to have company secrets about your solutions which are very scary (even from a company perspective as you never know who will talk) but can sort of open them up without losing control.
The important part here is the _solution_ part. A Patent has to provide an implementation that addresses a problem, saying "we have a system that fixes the problem xyz" is not sufficient for a patent.
that doesnt change the fact that:
1) esp. the southern us-states are much closer to the equator than germany (so sun comes in from a steeper angle -> more power)
2) the US is waaaaay bigger than germany (both economically and by square kilometers), yet invest less (in total), thus reducing the "investment per square kilometer" even more.
Seriously, build a healthy relationship with your kid and tell them about why some films are not appropriate for them. Get your kid to value your opinions (_opinions_, not laws) and if they are half intelligent they will probably come and ask if a film they saw is appropriate for them or not.
Also, tag your films with age recommendations (however you see appropriate) as a guide.
a style guide has its merits in that it is probably easier to pick up on what is what if you follow some conventions. However, a guide must be strictly that, and not an absolute law which has to be checked and rechecked all the time. If you find code (eg. when you have to change something there) that doesn't follow your guides, refactor it, but don't waste useless hours hunting for the obscure corner-case.
Also have your IDE do the checking for you and simply mark common "errors" like wrong variable naming conventions as warnings in the code (and have your build fail if you have too many warnings).
I mean, I walk past an adult shop on my way to work every day (nice bondage display in the show windows btw). Is there also a plan to put up black walls around that so the poor children don't see it when they walk by?
1) We don't (all) have company cellphones, only the higher-ups, people on stand-duty and people who travel a lot. Also I wouldn't want one as it would mean I am always reachable.
2) While it is mostly replaced with IM, it is still a nice tool to make someone aware that you need something _now_.
3) other people in the room can answer it, eventhough your computer is locked
4) you still hear it ring if you are at a colleagues desk in the same room or casually discussing stuff with teammates or people who walk in and want to know stuff (which happens quite often here)
5) you don't need a headset
6) as both ends hold a handset the conversation is usually shorter and more to the point as you cannot idly play around on your pc or stuff.
Don't pin your own faults to others. Just because your contry is a bunch of violent twerps does not mean others are. Eg. no european country has anything like this (not even for ex-dictators, they usually are on the UN-list of searched criminals).
After all, advertisement providers are also companies who want to make a business. If you actively block someone else from his/her business then you got trouble.
For the same reason Opera calls it's blocking functionality "Content blocker" instead of adblocker and does not supply predefined lists / ability for RSS providers by default.

a better door with a good lock and secure windows ... and don't buy anything you don't need (like the 5 TVs you had ;))

well, tell me what your brain does differently ... parses some input, draws stuff out of memory (which is crap btw) and combines it to new stuff.

Simple as that. For innovation you have other people.
and neither is it for any other normal desktop user who sits in a comfy chair.

seriously, ring of death and all (ok, that was MS, but Sony surely has an equivalent) what happens to my games then?

... the problem is that in many countries about everyone can get his/her hands on a gun without any regulation or prior screening.

is it only me or anybody else thinking these people don't understand what democracy means?
