    Whats whith all this bullshit flying around here?
    GNOME and nautilus is GPL or LGPL so no matter how bad eazel might be doing the source is out there and will stay that way. Who could be so stupid to abandon his desktop enviroment just because company x is doing y? The desktop enviorment won't go away no matter what. How the *** can you say GNOME would be so dependent on a company that happened to give it a FileManager. GNOME or Nautilus won't go away if eazel does, thank GNU for that. Something must be seriously wrong whith your logic if you relly belive everything bad for GNOME is something good for KDE, not true. You ever thought about the possibility to have both installed at the same time, the possibility to run neither of them? Possible symbioses?

    GNOME is not eazel.
    Nautilus is not eazel
    GNOME is not KDE and not GNOME is not KDE.

    MacOS X is mach3 at it's lowest level. On top of that is BSD and on top of that is the apple/next stuff.

    So the kernel is relly mach, which might be a bad choise but thats how next did it and apple have continued on that line.

    Well either you use the BSD lisence and allow these kinds of tactics or you better have to use another lisence!

    And you've just said no matter what lisence he picks he's just evil and GPL communist/terrorist ????? That does not compute. Why not just be glad you've got an option now and shut up! If you don't want any body to see you code just go ahead, if you want to share you can do that and if you only use 100% gpl software use the old release try to walk around the BSD lisence.

    English and German are not based directly on latin. German is a germanic(don't know the correct spelling;) language and english too but english has been hevely influenced by french that is mostly a latin language with just a little influence for germanic languages. Thay all are indo-europeean though. I have studied (but not in collage) latin ancient greek, spanish, frensh english and live in Sweden. My experience is that the more languages you get in contact with the easier it gets, althogh I don't master any of these languages 100%. And a final thought, programing lanuages remind me of logic formalization more than of english p q r

    Where I live, it's illegal to for example say "Heil Hitler" in public. The same could go here: should it be allowed to encourage child abuse? nope but as far as I'm concerned to draw or fake child pronography sould be legal even though it's offensive. Maybe it even should be encouraged IF(bif if) it could prevent real abuse, why not?

    Well, I'm pretty happy to have Open Firmware and not that BIOS piece of crap Im forced to use on PCs. Just get bootvars for macos and it will be very simple to get your mac to boot, or use quik which is just as lilo but for OpenFirmware: it can't get easier

    For the first time Im relly happy about QT, I still doesn't like it and will never ever in hell use it but it will hopfully inspire GTK hackers to imitate ;). Linux doesn't need one way to do it but more ways, long live QT,GTK, Berlin, X,Dinx,Framebuffers and GGI !

    Well at least we got both cygnus and SGI working on compilers, sgi had in mind a release of the source so at least we can hope for 'good enough' support.

    But I since we havent got the chip yet it must be quite hard to come up with some benchmarks or stuff...

    As a user of rock linux, which always had devfs I know you definitely don't have to 'fuck upp' you fstab. Just make aliases so that you've got /dev/root /dev/usr /dev/swap etc and use those in fstab. The alias creation just have to be run every startup and can be placed in a little nifty file thats easily modified. Rock uses /etc/conf/devfs thats called from the boot script

    I saw a similar article in a swedish newspaper just the other day but it was about India, and how people there wanted to create an adapted linux distribution(better interface, language support) so even the poorest people would get to use a computer. I look forward with great hope, think about the future then maybe whole continents grow upp using free software!!!

    As far as I know the PC with it's VGA and BIOS wont handle multiple displays and cards plug and play. I relly love the way my PPC with OpenFirmware works. The advantages with the mac is the RISC processor and the lack of old outdated BIOS madness

    Personnaly Id say that it's almost the same thing mentioning contamination + gpl in the same sentence as resort to namecalling, you actully said "linux is a desise" and also somehow got the impression that all we evil linux contaminated persons thought BSD was yahoo's problem, was your intention to correct us before we even said it or what?

    If the attack was similar why did it work on yahoo then, I guess both oure oses got their flaws, why not learn from eachother, the only way to do so must be to not insult or semi insult one and the other...

    Thats a very boring view of life. How *could* anyone relly tell their philosophical insights, you can't just walk upp to a buddhist and ask and get a short logic answer. It would be to fool oneself if you thought it would be enough to take a pill, read the bible and then insight. But if you relly think and then take a pill or read the bible, then you might get a bit more knownledge.

    And what about all the natural chamicals in the brain? If you are happy it's probably just some serotenin in your brain, so isn't that too a kind of illusion in your view?

    Drugs can lead to insight but as always one have to think, think alot

    The two first alternatives are strange, LinuxPPC has sprung ut off apples MkLinux(in the beginning, they used mklinux packages and just replaced the kernel) so why should apple try to stop or ignore something they started in the first place?

    You can play some quicktime movies and even run a streaming server on linux right now without the official quicktime. xanim and 'quicktime for linux' have been around for a long time now, try them

    Apple probably focus on linux as a server and not as a threat to OS X Client. Since MkLinux isn't that cool anymore, or perhaps never was ;) these links are the least they can do.

    It has evolved and works great!

    In the near future, about half the time it will take sun to release a buggy and outdated JDK for linux ;) well be able to run java in a totally free runtime either compiled as bytecode or as native-code.

    Be patient, gcj which is a part of gcc nowdays does that, if it gets a proper libgjc that is(libgjc = classes and stuff). I wouldn't expect anything from sun though...

    Since you can't use carracho on UNIX or even that old winDOS thing some of you might have heard of;) it's quite useless.

    Linux users have at least 3 different ways to access hotline servers:

    hxd www.krazynet.com/hx which is a server, tracker server and client under the GPL

    HSX,GHX,HST are the same things but shareware and freeware(and therefore sux)

    There is also some pearl hack but I have no idea if it works.

    None of these are perfect, and the all lack features and can be quite outdated from officiall holtine. But whats more intressting, is that BBSes are alive, even if you could get all your software from some huge ftp server or chat on IRC. Hotline although lacking in every area got at least 1000+ servers and regular users.


    If someone created a free implementation much like hotline and firstclass I'm sure it would be very popular...
