If Amiga don't come up with something soon they will definitley never be able to come back, to me it seems like their project get bigger and more hopeless all the time, first they wanted a new Amiga with a PowerPC processor and almost had a finished OS. And then suddely they rushed over to Linux and X on some totally new hardware, non of it relly existed . But now they want to compete with SUN Microsoft and bet everything on the idea that people would want something Simplified(read: incompetent) instead of just using netscape on a normal computer
Look here, you haven't got some fancy GUI setup to disable features but you got much more. You got the source!!!! In fact we all got the source so if I want my cool project in mozilla I can get that, if you don't want some feature you can disable it. Its just a matter of./configure --enable-X --disable-Y and GO!.
This gives all the users more than just a chois between Communicator Standard or Communicator Proffesional.
/and Im sure you will be able to disable IRC and IM in the preferences anyway
Just read the article and klick the link to linux.co.uk, it clearly sais PPC and MIPS users should get their kernels from their own trees but will soon be merged with the main distribution.
Why not show all the people working on linux for free and for the fun some respect?
And isn't it alan and not linus who is responsible for the stable kernels anyway?
Many of you seems to think this is good for linux but won't save amiga, but if they make it they can do it two different ways - make cool hardware that everyone will buy and install amigaOS or linux since they got the same hardware support OR they might try to make money of the OS = port it to every platform linux support and sell a cool OS with apps, but that sounds just like... BeOS(hmm) . well I can't decide which alternative rock the most, but maybe all this is just Amigas final desperat moves before it dies...

All I know is that you can convert your LinuxPPC install to debian easily. I don't know about just debian, don't think they got any PPC installer ready yet.
How can this post get a 3?, This is just personal oppinions and no facts. Why wouldn't a person who generates great but experimental code fit with people who can fix it up?. Why say he is being childish then one of the managers was an asshole, I whold get very angry to hear bad remarks of me and my code and the users of my programs for 1.5 years so whats so wrong with that?

Communism is just a nice dream that never works; it is bad, but a nice thought.
GNU/GPL/FSF might be seen as communists because they work for a comunity and maybe because they are the ones (creating and) updating GPL.
But the control of GPL is nessecary since you can't change the license as in BSD. And the point is to create a free OS that will stay free. It's as simple as that. They create a lisence and program software, nobody is forced to use or accept it. You don't even have to care about it if you are no programmer.
Communism was suppose to create better humans, but that never happend ofcorce.

1) I'll tell you they will NOT port linux to darwin(if the darwin kernel goes whats left??, almost nothing except a strangely lisnced BSD system!)

darwin comes with no GUI, no X, no nothing. It's just one console(no virtual as far as I know).
I'm not to excited of it, it's BSD and it's yet-another-lisence so it has scared me off
Plain ol'GNU/Linux works today, darwin just got it's first release a couple of days ago. Don't expect to much from it at this point...
