I dunno about the rest of you, but I'm getting sick and tired of medieval/fantasy RPGs/MUDs. I'd rather see a nice, well-done futuristic, or -- and I am loath to use this term -- "cyberpunk" MUD. The last such MUD I played was Iconoclast, which kicked ass primarily because of the roleplaying aspect, which was very heavily encouraged (as opposed to any random fantasy MUD, where it's kill, eat, sleep, repeat). Am I the only person who wants to see such a game? It sure seems like it...
The problem I have with the term "geek profiling" is its inaccuracy. Not everyone who is singled out for being depressed or violent or suicidal or "different" is a geek. I can think of a few people I know who might be singled out on a couple of those criteria who are most decidedly not geeks. While many (real) "geeks" may meet WAVE's criteria for being "dangerous", that does not mean that everyone who does is a geek.
...I think that it's a lot of what makes the book great is the narrative. For example, the part where it's talking about being a bad-ass motherfucker, and how Raven's nuclear umbrella has put the world title just out of reach. (I think that's pretty much a direct quote, but I don't have the book handy, so I'm not sure.) If you take stuff like that out, you lose a big part of the book. I think to preserve that, there would have to have some form of narration along with the action. That would probably be pretty awkward, though... depending on how it was done, anyway.
Was I the only person that found the inclusion of the electric hand dryer on that list funny? I don't see why you all took it so seriously, especially considering the source...
Okay, so maybe I'm just crabby and bitter(er than usual) because of all the idiots in my neighborhood playing with fireworks till 3:30 in the morning preventing me from sleeping, but honestly, who gives a damn if Linux is last in Deja.com's network OS poll? How is this news? The world's not going to end because of it. The sun will continue to shine, the earth will continue to spin, and LIFE WILL GO ON.
Actually, there was a discussion about this on Slashdot a while back... if I recall correctly, someone said that the human eye's resolution is actually relatively low (and it can't really be measured in pixels), but it's constantly darting back and forth so you see a large image, but only a small area of it is in focus. I believe the discussion was in an Ask Slashdot, but my (admittedly cursory) searches didn't bring up anything. Maybe I just imagined it...
While we're at it, Slashdot needs a "stupid" moderation category. Because sometimes it's not a troll, it's not off-topic, and it's not flamebait... it's just stupid.

We won't have a 1-1-3111... but not because we'll be using a different calendar, but rather because by that time, the Matrix will have enslaved us all...
Why does the US need another standard? Because gosh darn it, we're the US. If those damned Europeans are using something, well, by golly, it must be evil. And if they invented it, it must be inferior. Besides, Europe is where the Nazis lived, and everyone knows the Nazis were evil incarnate. You don't have anyone like that here, no sir. We're all honest, God-fearing, hard-working people over here.
And if you believe that...well, I'd just like to ask you, what's the weather like on your planet?
So this is thing is supposed to pinpoint, among other things, "good kids" who might go on an insane killing spree because they feel victimized by the school system. Anyone ever stop to think that maybe things like this are why kids feel victimized by the school system?
Specific songs: Anything by RATM. "Sugar" by System of a Down. "Du hast", "Sehnsucht", "Tier", the Eskimos and Egypt remix of "Rammstein" by (guess who) Rammstein. "Bodyrock" by Moby. "When Worlds Collide" by Powerman 5000. "Push It" by Static-X. "Song 2" by Blur. Anything off "Naveed" or "Happiness..." by Our Lady Peace.
"People have a skepticism for manufactured culture," he added.
MTV. The Gap. Calvin Klein. Tommy Hilfiger. Abercrombie & Fitch. All manufactured culture. I don't see too many people skeptical of them, unless you don't consider teenagers people.

I hope this has a favorable outcome... but for the love of , Jon, PLEASE DON'T USE THE TERM "GEEK PROFILING" WHEN YOU'RE TALKING TO THEM.

The article says they banned funphone.com too... of course, funphone.com is a very elaborate joke...
This wasn't funny yesterday, and it's not any funnier today...

Too late. It's already happened.
Only her hairdresser knows for sure...

"Vic" in German would sound like "fick", which is the informal imperative form of "ficken", which means "to fuck".

If it made it on Slashdot, I don't think it's all that secret anymore...

This is, of course, only a very small sampling.
I think if anyone here is a "stupid bigot", it's probably you.
