Quite agree, after programming C with Win32 for quite some time, I found that the switch to Linux was quite refreshing.

I could actually concentrate on working on my program logic rather than to struggle with my code.

I don't have to cope with strange API calls with 10+ parameters or the countless types of MS defined variables anymore. Yay!

I quite agree, there is no use teaching the kids to program without them knowing what to do with it. I hated my computer lessons the had to take( School's requirement, MS BASIC in '87), I chucked the notes aside and it was only a year later that I read a games programming book and realized that I could write games in BASIC. That was what really got me programming: my imagination and a need to create a game. From there onward I did my own exploration.

Any language that can be used to write games ought to do. And no... don't teach 'em COBOL!

Well, I have a set of dial in accounts from different providers, and all of them need their own set of proxy servers, POP3/SMTP to connect to. Profile support in this case would be pretty relevant. I hate to muck with the preference.js or log in and out of the system every time I use a different account.

I was testing the Win32 Netscape Communicator under WINE the few days ago and a netstat revealed a connection to Aureate networks @ port 1975. This connection never appeared under Netstat in Windows. I realised that this is a trojan horse installed by Go!zilla and would launch whenever the browser is being run.

Now I read about NetDemon tracking URLs and stuff like that. It really makes you worry about downloading 'free beer' programs from the net. Companies usually want something out of you for using 'free' stuff. I guess I stick with open source programs from now on. More assurance of privacy and security.
