The faq states that the name change is to 'provide trade mark protection for our work'. Does it means that the previous name didn't?
I thought a name change would cause quite some confusion, 'Helix' do sound more generic and is prbably easily marketable... Ximian is more of the of a word play. One wonders if that name would roll off the tongue of the customers easily or the audiences that HelixCode is pitching its services to.
I recalled that Capcom's Street fighter Vs Marvel games were modified to run on the PS because of the RAM limitations(cutting down from 2 on 2 to a psuedo 2 on 2 game).
If Capcom is going to use emulation, I guess that might be a kind of common runtime enviroment that caters to the common features that the platforms(be it PC,Arcade boards, PS 2 or DC) would have. Won't that limit the features of the games(Graphics, memory network wise)?
And how about the ban on Half-life a while back. It was said that a parent who was an MOE (ministry of education) official complained to a LAN shop onwer that blamed the shop his son was playing too
[snip]
School teachers have to deal with spoilt parents as well as trouble kids. I spent sometime in primary schools servicing computers and was rather amused by the childish arguments put up by parents to 'protect' their kids.
The half-life ban was definately silly. I'm glad they managed to reverse the ban.

Wow, what an interview!
Did he used that style of language to intimidate the committee too?
*ducks*
Now that _really_ sounds interesting.... but guess which shell it'll being running?
Will the OS be usable in the future should MS drop support for it .... say 10yrs after it was released?
Isn't DALnet unstable as it is already?
don't forget the planet-eating planetoid too.
Think JeffK's got anything to do with this?
Its ok to lurk around slashdot, just like in the Usenet and IRC....
:)
yes you can save IE to the disk for Win2k install, Ive done it before
E XT=974256509.679215128&hitnum=2
check:

Incidentally I've replaced the default W2k defrag tool with another free beer tool from:
http://www.oosoft.de/
I think its by a German company.
>early money on the Dreamcast
so did I. I just hope that the DC would not end up like the Saturn and 32X
>IE to fuck up the little form-interface thingies >when I moderate. That didn't happen in 98.
Do you mean the moderation drop-down boxes?
My Win98 system resources dropped to 10% after IE loaded an entire slashdot document.
I think Eudora 4.x do work under Wine. I could pass you a screenshot of it working using my RH 6.2 system, email me.
Anyone who have worked on smart cards care to commment on the lifespan of a smartcard ?
I presume the ID cards are meant to last some time(at least a decade or so).

Wouldn't that mean 'single point of failure' too?
If the processor goes, everything goes.

Arcades were banned in the 80s in Singapore too.
The ban was lifted in early 90s.
Ooops, yes you are right.
*sigh*
Misreading again.
I've got that box. The manufacturer is a company called AllWell
http://www.allwell.com.tw
The box is pretty ok. The only problem I have is trying to get the CyberPro 2010 chipset working with 16bit colour under X( anyone has better luck).
The box runs hot though. Best to get a CPU fan.
So did I.
I've got a evaul DiskOnChip PC lying on my desk. It doesn't play nice with LILO btw.
I thought he was refering to his hair(mao)....
:)
Also, X refuses to go above 8-bit on hardware known to go higher (ATI Rage IIC)
-----------
That's strange. I have Redhat 6.2 and an ATI Rage IIc OEM card. No problems running 1024X784 @ 16bits colour.
When I've just found an ant colony in my keyboard!
Cool!
:)
