If I remember correctly "It has been a long time since Chem class so I could be wrong" those tend to complex organic reactions which is not the case here. Since Ozone is constantly being created and destroyed in the upper atmosphere I am guessing that the lower energy means less 03 is being created so the balance between creation and destruction shifts. Or it could be that the colder temperatures causes the Chorine compounds to stay stable longer and do more harm. Or any combination. So yes the report is probably full of it saying that the temperatures speed up the reaction but the colder temps cold be contributing to the increased destruction of O3. or maybe you are right. Thing is that a good reporter would have seen that as counter intuitive and explained it so, in other words typical science reporting.
I suggest you look it up. A straw man argument is when you make a comparison to a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition. I did not do that. To be angry over becoming so famous in a role that you can not make a living acting anymore is one thing. That never happened to Nimoy. He left Star Trek and got a role on Mission impossible followed by other roles. Guess what acting is hard and very few actors ever get one big role. Thing is that he kept milking that role and making more and more money. Heck if Star Trek fans hadn't loved the show as much as they did he still might have been typecast but with out that paycheck. Then he would have been that guy working at Denny's that used to be on TV. Instead got fame, money, and a place in history it is too sad that he doesn't understand how lucky he has been and take joy in it.
Yes it is terrible to be famous in a role and make so much money from it that you can do what every you want. Sorry I have known lots of actors and they go from role to role hopping to make it "big" so they don't have be wait staff or go from little theater to little theater for the rest of their lives. Frankly it is just a bit silly to be annoyed by it. In some ways I think it shows a great intelectual disconnect between those in "entertainment" and those in science and technology. Star Trek inspired generations of people all the fields of Science as well as becoming a cultural icon. They have probably done more good for the world than most actors ever will yet the complain about it. Boo Hoo.
You have a point. Microsoft has the XBox which is popular and even cool. The problem is that name XBox didn't work for the music player. Maybe XTune? And then XPhone. Let's face it Windows doesn't just lack any cache in the phone market it has a negative value. Had Microsoft started off linking their consumer branding they might have gotten some more traction. I thought it was really odd that one couldn't sync their Zunes with the XBox instead of the computer. Hook it up to your system and pop in CD after CD to rip and use it as a media server as well as your gaming system.
I was thinking about getting a ZuneHD. I heard that it was a really nice device and had great sound. Microsoft killing the Zune probably makes sense in the short term but I think it is foolish long term. Apple still sells a lot of iPod Touches they are a gaming device and media devices. Frankly Microsoft should have called WP7 the Zune Phone and keep the Zune line around. The Zune HDs replacement could have run WP7. Microsoft could still do it but what would you call the device? A Windows not phone 7?
Umm the school can have policies on what you can and not put up. You can not put up posters at your employers office if they do not want you to. Also why bring that up to start with. If you read the email the knocked on his door to ask him if it was his. He was not their so for all they knew someone put it up as a joke or a threat.
Did you read the link provided? It was hung outside his office and not in his office. It did talk about killing people and had nothing to show that the professor hung it up and had nothing to do with his class that. When he did respond he did so by name calling and acting like a jerk. He could have just replied. "I hung it up. It is just a movie poster and not a threat to anyone can I have it back?"
Honestly they didn't know it was from a movie and these days people fear anything in schools that imply violence that I am not shocked at all. You would be surpassed what people are scared of.
One GB of firefox? Really? How many tabs to you have open? And might a suggest Firefox 7 for starters or Chrome.
Okay are are running Eclipse, a Java server, a Java client, apache, and a web browser on a two gig machine. Well for starters get more memory. Also check the memory settings for apache as well. I am also betting you may be running a Database server as well on that machine.
I have done that also but it really is so much easier to use a computer. Hey if you want a kindle and want to do that just get the touch. If you don't want to use that feature get the cheap one. Man Slashdot what the heck? Time and time again I see summaries that would make Fox News and or Randolph Hearst blush in shame.
Really? You finding it unsettling that only the kindle with the touch screen has a touch keyboard? If you email a document to Amazon they will keep a copy in your cloud library? Really? These two have got to be about the biggest duhs I have heard in a long time. Shocking I tell you shocking. And now that they have dropped the price and the ISPs are getting really greedy Amazon is dropping the free 3g web browsing which was never really advertised and was listed as experimental?
End result of this story is that Amazon will sell a ton of these and nerds everywhere will just keep wondering what happened to news for nerds?
While your statement is both true and vulgar it lacks details. Linux can run on ARMv4 for sure and maybe even lower versions while WP7 requires at ARMv7 aka Cortex CPUs I believe they use the Tegra as their target. Take a look at the Raspberry Pi as an example. Combine that with a touch screen and a phone chip and you have a smartphone that can run Linux.
Wow such a short reply with so much attitude and ignorance. OOOH - less than 20lb's of explosive, not in a pressure vessel capable of generating enough force to do much damage and without enough casing to create fragmentation. 1. That is more than an 81mm mortar shell. Drop one of those in a cluster of people and you have a lot of dead and injured people. I gave a payload I never said no casing was part of it. I left it vague for a reason. The metal in the plane, the wood, and some extra metal is all that you would need. 2. C4 is high explosives. You don't need a pressure vessel. we are not talking black powder here. C4 "burns" fast enough without containment to create a strong over pressure..
"When the smallest being used by the military is what.. the 500lb Mk-82?" Again here let me google that for you. An 81 mm is around 15 lbs. A 60 mm mortar round is under ten. The Javelin anti tank missle warhead is around 19 and it will take out a tank. The stinger SAM is under 10 lbs and can take out an aircraft or helicopter The Hydra 70 warheads are under 20 lbs. The new Viper Strike is around 2.5 lbs. A 20 lbs warhead is not a fun thing to be near.
"I guess you could take out a car, possibly bounce off the oval office window and hope the explosion shatters the glass." yea or kill 10 or 20 people leaving for work. Good heavens the quality of ac posts on slashdot is just terrible.
Typical, "blah blah blah, make up stuff, that would never kill anyone" response.
I have seen the 8 foot version carry 10 lbs of payload for fun. 20 for a one time mission should be no problem. For strength add a few grams and strengthen the spar and fuselage a bit. Remember you are not worried about it every flying again or landing.
I don't see the need for a winner. I predict a lot of people will buy the Fire. A lot of people want a tablet but do not want to pay $500 for one. Frankly just as BMW and Kia both do really well I am betting that the Kindel Fire will also do really well. I will also bet it is the hot gift this Christmas.
It isn't much different that what RIM and Opera did in the mobile space. As far as security goes I am not to worried. If Amazon blows it they will get sued to death and they know it so they probably be more secure than the average browser. I bet they revoke certs at light speed. As far as the Gubmit spying on me. They have already told me that I am too boring.
I was thinking of more complex applications. I would hate to write a spreadsheet in Flash or an airfoil simulator. I do not want to think about a spreadsheet in HTML 5 at this point. Google is impressive to say the least but GWT is based on Java so maybe not so much:)
A ton of digital data is that can not fit on common mass storage costing less than $60. That is the the technical use. So in say 1983 it would have been about two mega bytes using Elephant floppies at around 177k each In the colloquial use. Today it is about 1 TB. Also anything large fraction of a SLOC "Standard Library of Congress" would be a ton of. The less formal use means "so much I have no idea what I have", "I have a netfix account and rip and send", or "I have more than you do".
Football pitches? What are you a 10 year old girl or a sissy EU type. This here board was started in Michigan in the U.S. of the freaking A. We use football fields here! micro-Belgiums? Well since everything in Europe is small and frankly unimportant a micro-Belgium== a smige.
Sorry you are wrong. In the Slashdot system of universal measurements you only have to have a 2x expansion to == a whopping. An 8x or greater requires the addition of the prefix great and a 64x an additional prefix of huge as in a huge great whopping. You transition to hugenormus once the surface area == one standard library of congress rendered in courier 10 point font, double sided on A4 sized paper, at standard temperature and pressure. Hope that cleared it up for you.
Well the cable companies have got to be feeling the pain. Frankly anybody that lives in an area with good coverage is pretty dumb to pay for basic cable. The OTA digital picture is BETTER than what you get from the cable company and it is free. People are dropping cable and that is going to hurt. People are also getting tired of the cable companies running amok and they can see regulations coming. The fact that the AT&T TMobile merger was not rubber stamped is the first sign.
Not any more. Really that is one of those myths that will never die. On a modern system Java will load up pretty dang fast. The browsers could also have an option to preload in the background using a thread if enough people where using Java to make it worth while.
Why? Java is a much nicer development system than say Flash. Frankly Java applets got a bad rap because of Java abuse. I blame Microsoft for that. You see FrontPage had animated buttons as an option and they where freaking java applets. No one should have to wait for java just for buttons. It is a shame that applets have gotten such a bad rep. It is an even bigger shame that Apple and Google are not supporting Java on IOS, Android, and Chrome.

I would say that it would have required humanity on the part of the Professor.
Maybe even just some good judgement.
As many people pointed out.
This was not political speech. It was a freaking movie poster. Too get bent over this is just silly.
Did you read the link provided?

Funny but would you say that if they where showing Birth of a Nation? What if this poster was hung outside the class room. http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/posters/ewige.jpg
