You can not make everybody happy and never will. I think that you need to get a grip on what an open mind means. People are hating on this without ever using it and a lot without even reading about what they are trying to do. That is not having an open mind. Frankly it doesn't sound great to me but until I see a beta of it and try it I will give it a chance. I really don't understand why anyone hates the awesome bar how does it every make more work for the user or slow them down?
Because we want to be in an office full of people talking to their computers. Or not being abile to google something without interrupting the phone call we are on? Yea that would be... Terrible. Man if you thought people having personal conversations on cells in public was bad just wait till programers are dictation c++ code and support techs are trying to talk at the customer and computer at the same time. "Search Google for USB for Bluebird USB to serial adaptor manual" I don't need to search for the manual it is right here but I don't understand it that is why I am calling you! Not you the computer. The computer what?
I know it was a joke and a comment all in one. PNG replaced gif because it was a better standard. It took so long because Microsoft didn't support it well. What I would love to see is a system of OS support for image files, video files, audio files, and maybe even 3dObjects. Your browser could then support any future format and we wouldn't have all this worry about what browser version support which format. And yes nothing is perfect. Some bozo can write a malware codec and a security flaw in one piece of code could effect a large number of systems. The plus would be if we could have a way to keep them updated then one security fix would fix all browsers/video programs, graphics programs. If we had such a system then maybe all browsers would have good support for SVG, Ogg Thedora, WebM, and H.264 and we wouldn't have the current HTML5 video mess.
Two trends that make me want to screen. Wide screen monitors are great for watching movies and playing games but not for reading text. Combine that with. Websites that have a fixed width design! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.............
Have you read the link? They seem more intent on giving you more screen space for the browser. I am still not happy how bookmarks seem be becoming outmoded. To type in a url you will click on the firebox button or hold down the alt key. You will then get a bubble to type in that has the functions of the awesome bar plus some natural language stuff. I hate the idea of natural language because it will be more verbose than a command system. For example. "Move the file named addresses of friends to the folder called personal information." vs mv "addresses of friends" "personal information"/
Thing is that just because I don't like it doesn't mean it is a bad idea. And it really doesn't look like they are just copying Google but expanding on the idea that more browser space for pages is better. I think the hating and screams of copying are at this time premature. Maybe it would be cool to say "look up B-17" have then have a browser give you a combined page of Google, Bing, and Wikipedia info on the B-17.
So I guess the second part of the question is. Have the HPC libraries been ported yet. I have heard one of the big reasons that Fortran is still so popular is the large library of highly optimized HPC libraries. The other reason is that Fortran is supposed to be really easy to optimize which I can believe.
You would be right except that their are applications that do require the performance. You can never have too much computing power for some applications like climate modeling. So what is your point?
There is still a lot of HPC applications written in Fortran with this run them? Also how hard if any of a porting will be needed to get good results from this.
Dude you live in Vermont. It is an odd place in so many ways why does this shock you. Go bet some maple syrup for your Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and sit in your wicker chair and mellow out.
Actually I find her music too be okay. But if you like her that is great. That is the funny thing when I went back and got a much of the music I really liked from my youth and listened to them I realized one thing. Most of them are really bland. I wonder how many people will feel the same in 20 years. Oh and the music that I used to really like that I now think is bland. I still kind of like it. Not because it is great but because of the memories it brings back. If you like Lady Gaga then you like like Lady Gaga and there is nothing to be ashamed of it. but I will give you some advice. If you think that it is deep and meaning full your wrong. Any meaning you think is there is from you. That is also not a bad thing. It is more import for people to be deep and meaningful than pop music,
You don't get it. It melted down. That means that no one can live in Japan ever again. Millions will die, This disaster makes the actual Earthquake and Tsunami seem like nothing!
As a user I could see some real interesting uses for the data. It would be nice if you could see which clubs and restaurants are getting the most check ins. You would know the hot spots. Even better would be knowing when they are getting the check ins. Maybe you could see when that restaurant you want to try has the least check ins so you get the wait the least amount of time. Age data would be cool as well. If a place is loaded with people that are younger or older then you are you may want to avoid that as well. That is where foursquare I think is falling down a bit. Discovery tools.
"Interference is beside the point. You filter out the frequencies you don't care about." If you are filtering them out they are not available for use. So you do not have an infinite number of "Colors". There are many reasons why you can not have infinite bandwidth including the ones you gave. The thing is that most of them do not show up in classical physics which is all that most people know.
True and I don't encourage people to abandon friends in trouble. But if that drug addicted friend asks you to a party... And not getting on Facebook will not solve it. All it takes is a "friend" to get a picture of you doing something stupid to hurt you. It doesn't even have to be doing something stupid. A young lady at a sleep over could end up with a picture of her in a state of dress that she wouldn't be comfortable with being published for the world to see.
You see that is a new problem. You see never before in human history have teens been so dumb as to put themselves in dangerous situations. IT is sad that things have changed so much that parents have no got to keep up with potential dangers so they can help teens make good choices. What is the world coming to.
All kidding aside back in 1982 when I was in high school a kid a knew went to a local pond and got drunk. He then got a a rope swing and swung out and back and hit the tree fell in the water and died. Young people making bad and unsafe choices and tragic outcomes are nothing new. Of course I didn't think my parents had a clue and teens today don't think adults today have a clue. It boggles there mind that at this time of their life they have the power to make a bad choice that can destroy not just their life but others as well. That is why the transition from child to adult has always been a very hard time for people. As to Facebook pretending I don't think they really are. I think for a public site it has more controls than most but what people need to get is this is a site for sharing information. Only post what you want to share and you will have no problems. As to the problem with your friends posting something that gets you into trouble. Well guess what that old saying that goes back for how long looks to be true. "You are know by the company you keep". All the problems people have with Facebook would be solved if you just followed the advice parents have been giving to people for years. 1. Don't act like a fool in public. 2. Don't hang your dirty laundry out for the world to see. 3. Choose good friends. I am not a fan of living your life in a fishbowl but if you jump on Facebook you are putting yourself out their for the world to see. I will add a new rule for the 21st century. 4. Don't expect anyone to care as much about your privacy as you do and do not expect anyone to make anymore effort to protect your privacy as you do. And one last one. STOP PLAYING THOSE STUPID VILL GAMES!
A. You can not generate an infinite number of colors. Each frequency of radiation is caused by a specific change in quantum state. "See black body". B. Even with light you can have constructive and destructive harmonics. You would not want to use colors that can interfere with one another. C. Your transmitting medium will be limited to what "colors" it can pass. Fiber optics are not good with passing X-Rays or Radio. Yes Xrays, Gamma, and radio are really when you get down to it just other "colors" of light, the wave length is what is different. They are all part of the electromagnetic spectrum of which light and what we think of as color is just a small part. So you really don't have that infinite spectrum of colors you where talking about. What this is called if frequency based multiplexing. As you can see you do not have the potential for an infinite amount of data but you do have what is known in the field as "an unholy mega crapload of potential bandwidth" or in Europe as a "Metric Mega crapload of potential bandwidth".
Not really. Airliners are not the gas hogs that people think. A modern airliners gets about the same passenger mileage as an economy car. Plus that mileage is also spread over cargo as well. Now a private 767 is going to burn as much fuel a regular 767 but a 767 airliner caries around 250 to 300 people. And the manufactures are all about better fuel economy because it means more money. So if your bosses are flying on an airliner than it isn't an issue. It is sort of like the Ford Excursion. It is a huge fuel hog as a commuter car for on person. I know a family that has 8 adopted kids that owns one. For them it gets better seat miles than a Civic. Oh the father has a little Toyota for his commute to work. A Boeing 737-600 which is a good but not great airliner as far as MPG gets around 52MPG per seat. So it is about the same as two people car pooling in a Honda Accord.
I always find it amusing when people get upset about "privacy" on Facebook. Why can't people get that their is no such thing as privacy on Facebook? It is a public website and is for sharing. What people want is just a little privacy. They want Facebook to show what they want to show to who they want show it too. That maybe asking too much. I mean really just go with the idea that Facebook is a public place and only post to it what you want to be seen in public. Now what your friends do is a different story. Buy hey they could be posting that picture of you from that strip club on the bathroom wall.
You can not make everybody happy and never will. I think that you need to get a grip on what an open mind means. That happened around 1984 so why are you crabbing about it now?
People hated the awesome bar and they hated the tabs. Maybe once you use the new interface you will see the usefulness of it as well.
I would read the link and have an open mind. It is interesting but I just hope it is an option for people like me.
Have you read the link?

That would suck. Imagine thinking you where getting Duke Nukem Forever and getting Doom instead.
Talk about bait and switch.
That would be really easy to check and it would get around really fast. Yea it could be done and it already happens a lot on review sites.
As a user I could see some real interesting uses for the data.

Really where is this promise of privacy of which you speak? I have seen some settings but I have seen no such banner saying things would be private.
You see that is a new problem. You see never before in human history have teens been so dumb as to put themselves in dangerous situations. IT is sad that things have changed so much that parents have no got to keep up with potential dangers so they can help teens make good choices.

Not even annoying much less entertaining.or infuriating, you suck at trolling you should go read CNN comments for some pointers.
